Good job buddy :thumbleft:. That's one job that can be ticked off the list! I would say let's have a race to see who can finish their car first but I'd so lose
-
Cool, cheers for all your help mate :thumbleft:. Think I'm gonna just replace all the injectors and fuel lines and be done with it. I've tried refitting that injector and it's just really loose no matter how much I try to tighten it. Good thing I get paid on the 28th that's all I can say.... Some cars do have the unfortunate side effect of attracting the attention of chavs and scoobies are one of those. It is a great shame really. Mk2 golfs are another. Trying to find a none ragged one of those is getting harder and harder.

Don't get me wrong, I am very much still learning myself and I've got a long way to go before I reach the level of some of the people on this forum but whoever had this car before me was either completely ignorant or just didn't care. Everything I've found has just been a total bodge if they've bothered to repair it at all. They couldn't even get the stereo out without breaking the console. It does annoy me because I think about how nice this car was/is and how there are some people that would have given their left arm for it and treated it how it deserves to be treated instead of letting it get in this state. I know I am trying my hardest to fix it but the fact remains it shouldn't be in pieces on my front garden, it should be on the road where it belongs. Everything that's wrong is down to neglect and the fact that when work has been done the person didn't have a clue. It started off funny, like the marigold glove just left in the engine bay and the wads of tissue paper stuffed in various places, but now I find it a bit depressing. But then it's making me more determined to get it sorted and I am very much enjoying working on it so mixed feelings really. Sounds sad I know and rant over. This is a 9A engine code not the KR so would those 8v units fit a 9A properly as well?

Certainly a posibility mate. Am at my girlfriend's house at the moment and when I get home I'll look over them a bit better. If it is from an 8 valve is it likely that is the reason it is leaking at the union? The one on the right did come off very easily so maybe it's just a poor fit and not that the union nut is corroded as I first suspected. But then that begs the question what on earth is it doing there in the first place??? Surely if you needed to change the injector you'd replace it with the right sort? I'm still gonna remove the manifold just to be sure. I had to take the upper section off anyway to change the cam cover gasket as that was a bit weepy top left so taking the lower section off as well is nay bother. Better to be safe than sorry. I'd rather not have bits of injector rattling around in the cylinder head even if it's only a slight possibility. Thanks for that buddy. Joe

Yeah, got some Beru HT leads from a site Jim recommended in another thread. They were perfect. Those old ones I've come to the conclusion were some kind of joke. I'll have a think about what I need mate. I've got to think about what I'm gonna do with the wheels as well. Am thinking I'll find a half decent set of standards. The ones on there would have been nice alloys if they weren't well and truly trashed, and the expense of getting them refurbed would be unjustifiable when I could just spend less money on a set that haven't been curbed to death. Am thinking now that I might sell it on with the G60 and treat meself to a VR. I would be heart broken to see the G60 go but it would be worth it I think.

At the injector end. I've had a good look at the fuel metering head and all seems well. So am now sure it's down to the injectors. If you've got the fuel lines from that H plate (that would be a KR right?) I would be very interested. The missing relay is a 99 (did some looking up). If you've got one going spare would be grateful mate. Let me know and I'll pm you my address and get you over some £££££. Cheers again, you're a star! :thumbleft:

Ah, so that would explain why the wipers only work on one setting. Knew it! Where the hell has that gone then? I may have to change the fuel lines anyway as I think part of the problem may be corrosion at the union, that may be why fuel was just p*ssing out at the connection. If I do change those anyway I can certainly look at getting the merc injectors. And as I'm replacing all four to be safe it would be good if I can save some money . I assume they're made by Bosch? Anyway, cheers for the tip :thumbleft:. As for changing the cam I'll wait until I get the thing running first. Still haven't really decided what I'm gonna do with the car. If I'm just gonna sell it on I will most likely leave them alone.

You want a fun start to your saturday evening? Try removing the upper section of a 9A inlet manifold in a thunder storm! Didn't really feel I could stop half way through so just carried on going. Got the cam cover off as changing the gaskets anyway and from the position of the cams looks like the inlet valves to cylinder four are closed. So fingers crossed. Anyway, have to stop playing now. Which sucks. Will get the lower section off later and update again later in the week. Take care everyone!

Cheers buddy :thumbleft: It is hours of fun much to my girlfriend's dismay  . Unfortunately I am still at the stage where every time I go out there I find something else wrong but I think I'm to starting to win now. I must admit I'll feel a lot better about it when I find the end of that injector    . Off now to order a new set of gaskets for the inlet manifold....

Destroy her! :censored: And that mk5 needs to sort its plate out
-
Right, Turned the engine this morning with the injectors all in place. 3 and 4 clearly fooked because fuel just dribbled out where they are connected to the fuel line at the union nut. Thought I'd just pull them out to to see if they just needed a tighten or something and try again. This is what I found: Right one goes to cylinder 4. I'm scared now because is there a chance the tip has fallen down into the valve and caused damage, or worse gone into the cylinder itself? And obviously I dare not turn the engine anymore to see if the other two injectors are operating properly as surely that must have come off as I was removing it? So maybe if I just take the inlet manifold off I'll be able to retrieve it? Why????!!!!
-
Nice! I'm glad you weren't put off by the work that needs doing. Like Jim said I can't see you having much trouble getting that lot sorted. Just niggly old car things no doubt. Well done mate and defo keep us informed.

Cheers. Luckily I took the picture far enough away to miss the rust and stone chips on my cars... :D Nothing to be ashamed of mate. You should see the front bumper on my car up close. Looks like my face when I was fifteen, pale and spotty . Shows the car is enjoying life in my opinion. It gets to bomb up and down the A14 on a regular basis, when traffic conditions allow of course, and that means stone chips. You gotta watch rust on a white car though. A whole world of pain it is!

A stunning brace in anybodies book. Hats off to thee sirs! :D
-
Don't do that, pm ME his details
-
I'm gonna be so jealous.... But I guess I'll just have to be content with two.
-
   Would love to mate but I'm gonna be up to my elbows in fuel at the weekend testing injectors. The vibrator pins are gonna be c*cked or something I just know it. Oh well, I said I'd get it working again and that's what I'm gonna do. :D
-
That is a very good price. Maybe the guy selling it just doesn't really know what it's worth.... maybe. It's gotta be worth checking out though. For that price I'd be tempted even if it is a skip.
-
Never liked corsas at all but hats off to em, did an awesome job. :thumbleft: Obviously cared about what they were doing and had the patience to do it well. Watching that vid has made me want to go out and get my hands dirty....
-
Yeah, Supercharge it!!!!
-
I must admit it's quiet fun checking up on people I used to go to school with. Found one guy who's married and moved to America. The whole time I new him he never had one girlfriend. It's nuts. Anyway, ex successfully rejected.... er, again i guess.
-
   Think the safest option is rejection. I feel bad, but you know she's just gonna have to learn to let go. It's for her own good.
-
If I ever get a VR I probably will end up supercharging it. I've fallen in love with superchargers since having the G60. I miss the whining noise when it's not there and I keep expecting to hear it when I drive other cars.
-
Who's bright idea was this anyway? Just joined and am still getting to grips with the site and now I have an email saying one of my x girlfriends is trying to add me as a friend. I never wanted any contact with this person ever again. Should I just reject it? Also my name is Joe Parmenter so if anyone who is lacking friends and who hasn't been out with me before wants to add me I'd grateful as at the moment I only have my brother.... :(

I can't help but feel there should be more on that fuse board. Oh well, am gonna get the injectors out and do the Haynes brand "stick them in a glass and see what comes out if anything" test at the weekend. Also will get the Fuel meter/distributor/metering distributor/metering valve/valve thingy apart and make sure that's functioning as it should. Am almost certain that's what the problem is now. There are no fuel leaks that I can see and fuel is getting to the above mentioned thingy cos I can smell it there when I turn the engine. Just not convinced it's getting to the cylinders for obvious reasons.
