  1. Thanks for the advice mate, and I agree It definately helps to be systematic. I have been slowly accumulating parts from various different sources so I can spend a whole day (thinking of pulling a sicky as have other commitments over the next few weekends) just overhauling things like the plugs and fuel filter. I just always start at the air filter with engines that aren't running. The set of plugs I found in the foot well were used ones so they have probably been changed at some point but I'm still gonna do it again. Defo draining the fuel tank. Gonna flush out the cooling system as well as that's been overfilled by captain bodge or whoever it was who last worked on this car. And god only knows how old the oil is. I'd rather not think about it, am just gonna change it when it gets to that point. Am trying not to get too far ahead of myself though. I was so lucky to find this car. It was literally two miles from my house. I've been on the look out for a project like this for ages but was looking at golfs as they are bit easier to come by. I did a mk2 last year that my girlfriend found advertised on a notice board in a hospital for £50, so they are out there. You just have to keep your eye out. And a mate with a trailer helps too!
  2. Well, just finished vacuuming Thetford forest out of the engine bay (trust me, it was the easiest way) and it's all ready for the new air filter to go in. Also found that the warm air pipe was completely disconnected.... Finding more and more things wrong every time I go out there. The windscreen wipers only work on one setting and the rain we've had over the last few days has proven that there is a leak in the sunroof. Which not only doesn't slide but doesn't work at all. And there is a stain that just won't quit on the driver's seat. It's gonna take forever to get it out. You spray the cleaner on it, wipe it with a cloth, and the cloth turns black but the stain hasn't faded at all. My god this is fun... and it's bringing out a masochistic side I never new I had!
  3. Nice wheels :thumbleft: , I'm not sure the honeymoon period does end does it? I mean thinking of my G60. It's white, which isn't even my favourite colour corrados come in. The gear stick nob came apart in my hands. The rear view mirror is stuck on with no more nails cos it's the only thing that would work after it fell off the first time. Not that visibility is all that great out of the thing anyway. It's now started leaking power steering fluid. No matter how hard I try or who works on it the charger won't stop making gurgling noises. But I f**king :luvlove: it and now I own a valver as well! Which barely works at all
  4. If I was gonna go for a Japanese car it would be the Integra type R over the CTR every time. Now that's a car that handles well.
  5. Hey buddy, welcome to the forum. One thing you could check are the drain holes that carry the water that runs off the windscreen down into the wheel arches. They're located just under each bonnet hinge. If these are blocked water sometimes gets into the footwell through the heater vents. One thing to try is to pour some water onto the windscreen and watch if it comes pouring out of the arches. Other than that, get some pictures up mate!
  6. Good job so far! Hope the conversion goes well. You can't beat a VR6.
  7. Always the same with Halfords. Every time I go in there for something all I ever seem to find is the peg it would be hanging from if they had it in stock.
  8. That's sweet as! Anybody here I'm sure would be proud to own a car as tidy as that. :thumbleft:
  9. I know mate! When I look at it sat in my front garden and I think about how much I paid for it I have to keep pinching myself. And now I've fully reconstructed the interior out of the trim jigsaw puzzle that was left for me in the boot, and dusted, polished and vacuumed it, it looks stunning. Can't wait to get it running properly.
  10. Think I may have found part of the problem anyway. Just taken out the old air filter and it was black as the night! Couldn't believe it. Also that piece of paper that looks like it's stuffed down the left hand side of the box in the picture of the bay was actually half in the box with the lid closed on top of it! It had soaked up loads of rain water which it kindly transferred to the filter. Which meant for a very wet filter indeed. So air flow to the cylinders was obviously greatly impeded and no air means no combustion which means no engine. How much am I going to laugh my ass off if a new filter solves the problem?... A lot!!!! But lets face it I'm not that lucky.
  11. Yeah, couldn't really go wrong with it at that price. Have started reconstructing the interior. Can't get my hands dirty on it properly until next weekend though unfortunatley. Will update once I have located the fault/faults with the engine. Am bracing myself for the worst though. But hey, if I have to find a replacement engine then so be it. I'd rather do that than let it languish how it was before I got it only to end up on the scrap heap.
  12. Well, the paint work is breathing a sigh of relief already. Just treated it to a good old hose down and some triple wax shampoo. Vast improvement but will get some T-cut during the week. Also a selection of the artifacts I found left in the glove box.... Also don't suppose anyone's got a front driver's side wing in black?
  13. Well picked up the 2l 16V last night. And boy does it need some work. Body is in very good condition apart from a scratch to the rear drivers side arch and some bad rust on the front driver's side wing. Basically all I need to do to the outside is get a new wing and give it a good clean. Easy sh*t. I don't know how long this car had been sat around for but guessing quite a while judging by the inch thick layer of dust over everything. The main problem is the engine. Barely runs at all. And when it does I'm lucky if I get more than two cylinders. It's idled once, every other time as soon as you take your foot of the pedal it dies. Looking at it briefly there is so much tree detritus in the bay I'll be very surprised if the air filter isn't completely blocked which isn't gonna help matters. The box on the drivers seat has the cam belt cover and various other bits of trim from the bay and the trim from under the steering wheel and fuse box cover and stuff are all in the boot. There are spark plugs in the passenger foot well. Looks like someone has had the intention of fixing but didn't get very far at all. Which is a shame cos it's a lovely car. Only thing it's missing on the add ons front is the leather interior. I might be looking at a new engine but I only paid £360 for it. Believe in or not but there's a black corrado under there somewhere.... Check out the Marigold top left! My only question is why do people let perfectly good cars get in this state in the first place?
  14. Oh come on, they're not that bad... Looks like bargain of the century there mate! well done! 8) I've just bought a 2l valver as well for considerably less but it is in considerably worse condition. Let's just say I like a challenge....
  15. It's not what you know it's who you know.... That must come in handy if your G60 is anything like mine  Will have to shop around a bit more this time. Well I am now the owner of two corrados. Picking up a 2 litre valver either tomorrow night or Saturday. It's gonna need a new wing and there is a nasty scratch on the back that'll need sorting, also some engine TLC and a bloody good clean!!!! Possible blowing from the exhaust as well. Plus anything else he "forgot" to mention but I'll find out when I pick it up. Should keep me out of trouble for a while.... Will get some pics up soon.
  16. Yeah that's great, I'm actually looking to get a few trim bits and pieces for the G60 when I get round to it so that first site should prove useful :D And yes I do start one thing before I've completely finished another....
  17. Cheers for that, the shameful truth is not too sure what I do have in my local area as mostly deal with mail order places. Though after my last project that's gonna stop.
  18. Hey guys, Might soon be taking on another Corrado for restoration purposes (must be mad) if the price is right and it looks like it needs a lot doing to it.... Was just wondering if you can recommend any good places to obtain parts from. Not necessarily cheap places (like any of them are) but the ones with good service who know what they're on about. Had some bad experiences with various outlets in the past when I was working on a mk2 golf. Also I'd just like to commend everyone here for creating such a great resource :D
  19. I once had a polo that used to do that
  20. Well, The golf is gone. A nice gentleman arrived at my house earlier today to exchange it for a wad of cash :D I now have the money to go and buy a corrado!!! The car I should have bought in the first place. But I'd never owned a Golf GTI before so had to get it out of my system  It feels a bit odd that I don't actually own a car at the moment so hopefully it won't take me too long. I'm looking to get a 2.0 16v. Whilst I'm out looking for them is there anything in particular I need to be on the look out for? Obviously I'm not expecting to get one with a working sunroof....
  21. A VR would be lovely. My girlfriend would kill me though. Are Vr6s worth dying for?
  22. Have thought about the G60. Obviously wouldn't escape my attention but not seen any for sale in my area recently. Though they would be a better choice for me, at least then I wouldn't be going down in power from the golf.
  23. Hey Guys, I'm new around here so greetings to you all. Just want some advice really. In the next month or so I'm gonna be getting shot of my mk3 16v Golf GTI in favour of the corrado I've always wanted. Was wondering if there are any real advantages to the 2.0 16v over the 1.8. I know the 2.0 has more torque but power output seems to be around about the same. It's just that the 1.8 seems a bit easier to get hold of. The other thing is, if I get either of the valvers am I just gonna spend the whole time wishing I got a VR6 (which I can't really afford but I can dream)? Any help appreciated. Joe
