  1. Yeah I agree, I'm looking very hard for a VR6, paint can be resprayed, dings can be pulled out, if the engine/box is strong and everything else has been well maintained I think you'd be a fool to break it - there's enough written off C's out there to meet the demand for the VR lump etc surely?
  2. Even when it's crap it's still the best thing on telly.
  3. I've nearly left the road a couple of times trying to open a packet of mints. Stopped that now, mind you.
  4. When it's £30 a litre we'll have more to worry about eg. where to get food and heat.
  5. Fcuk em. I'm still going to buy and use the same amount of petrol no matter how much it costs. Mad Max anyone?
  6. I'll always remember my dad driving us at 100mph along the motorway in one of our old Triumph 2500s, rolling a fag while steering with his knees!! Never did me any harm etc! That said, with the amount of numpties on the road already, would removing another excuse for them to lose concentration really be such a bad thing?
  7. I'm a member of the RAC and I've only got good things to say about them too. GTI died a couple of times, they were with me within 15mins and sorted the problem both times. Legends! Plus one of the guys actually had a Rallye at home so we spent about half an hour chatting!
  8. Good call - would love a tidy Polo GT - 75bhp in a car that weighs as much as a wet rag = fun! rado-steve - want to buy a nice valver? :D
  9. Ooh you lucky barstewards! So you're saying I need to buy a bigger house, basically? :D
  10. I could be mis-remembering - I definitely remember falling over when the council dude told me the price, which is annoying because there's some unused council garages literally behind my house, accessible by a little alleyway. I'll double check and see. I don't live in a terrible part of town but it's not the best and I wouldn't like to leave one of my cars on the road.
  11. Yeah actually the petrol thing isn't an issue is it, as you can only drive one car at a time (duh!) :) Storage is the big thing with me, the gf's polo and the GTI fit on my drive (just) but that's it. I've looked into renting a council garage but they're v.pricey (about 13k a year I think). Have you car barons got huuuuuge driveways or something?
  12. Awesome, great info there guys. Interesting to see that Golf + Corrado is a common combination! I might give my insurance company a ring (Direct Line) and see what they say.
  13. OK I'm looking for a C as you know, the search goes on etc. which isn't too bad as the longer it takes me to find one the more money I've got at my disposal. Anywho - I'm currently the proud owner of a stonking little schwartz black Mk2 Golf GTI 16v, and I've had it for a little over a year, whipping it into my mechanic at every cough and splutter, replacing anything that even LOOKS worn, having fun with oil leaks, dodgy idle, all the fun of the fair. Anyway it runs like a sewing machine now and pulls like a train through every gear, it's amazing. This is my problem - my initial idea was PX the GTI for a VR6, or sell the Golf and drive the gf's polo until the right Corrado comes along. Now the more I run the Golf, the more I don't want to let it go!!! :( So I'm looking into the possibility of keeping the Golf and getting a Corrado as well - maybe renting a council garage behind my house to keep one in, keep the other on the drive. I know quite a few of you run more than one car (even more than one C!) and I was wondering if you find it cripplingly expensive, or if there are any tricks to it that I don't know about regarding insurance/tax/petrol/etc! Or are you just considerably richer than me? (I hope so for your sakes!) Anyway, any thoughts would be greatfully received!! :D
  14. I got given a book for my birthday last month, full of contemporary reviews of each Corrado model, and one thing that struck me was how poorly received the G60 engine was by the motoring press at the time! It seems that when the VR6 came out, there was a collective sigh of relief as "the Corrado finally has the engine to back up it's handling". Made me think a bit, it did!
  15. You're most likely correct, it just amused me that the first response she had was one of horror! I assured her my C, when I eventually get one, will be in all it's standard, unmodified glory!
  16. Mate of mine has a German girlfriend who was horrified when I said I was going to buy a Corrado. Apparently, in Germany they're the equivalent of a Nova or Corsa - ie. a proper chav car! :D
  17. Really? The G60 looks like a roomier engine bay with that lickle 8v GTI engine in it!
  18. Interesting, thanks guys. I know how these kind of "urban myths" can spread with little basis in fact! I actually didn't know the camchains could be done from underneath, I'm sure I read that was an "engine out" job... Thanks for all your patience - I'm really researching hard into the C, the various engines, possible problems etc, so I know exactly what I'm looking for when I go viewing. It's great that you guys are here because as we all know these cars are getting fairly old. That said, VW knew how to build them back then, my Mk2 Golf GTI is on 176k and still pulls like a train! I'll tell my mate he's talking nonsense. :)
  19. Hi all, Mechanic chum of mine (that's his job, he's not a robot or anything) winced when I told him I was looking for a Corrado VR6 because he says the engine is so tight in the engine bay a lot of simple tasks are "engine out jobs". Would any VR owners agree with this or not? Basically, are labour costs higher for a VR than a G60 when it comes to under the bonnet, generally speaking?
  20. I totally agree - I once went to a tyre place and stood there for literally 10mins getting ignored by every grease monkey in the place! I actually had to physically collar one of them to ask if I could perhaps get some tyres fitted if it wasn't too much f*cking trouble! That said, my mechanic who does all the work on my GTI is a sound lad, always fair with the prices and I can trust him. I guess you've just got to vote with your wallet and avoid places that think customer service is optional!
  21. Typical. I got ripped off when I bought some wheels off a guy on a forum, paypal wouldn't give me my money back despite me plainly being in the right!
  22. Quality! Nice to see how much attention I pay to things, isn't it. Couldn't remember the reg, and got the colour wrong! :D
