  1. Yep know exactly what you mean - it's gutting isn't it. But think about it - I bet you'd rather drive the C every day and enjoy it for what it was built for rather than keep it in the garage to stop from worrying about it? This is something I told myself when I bought my Corrado - that it's "just" a car and I'm going to try not to be ultra paranoid about it. Obviously I'll be careful where I park it etc. but if it came to the point where I'd not take it somewhere "in case" it got a knock, there wouldn't be any point in having it. Cars are for driving and enjoying and sadly bumps and scrapes are a byproduct of this.
  2. Yes I did exactly that to the wing of my Golf. Gutted. Also, the bonnet of my Golf is "burnt" by the acid from bird poo left in the sun, so don't let it bake on!
  3. Well that was a fun drive back from Derby - the car didn't miss a beat, loads of fun! Apart from when I got back to my estate and discovered, as I suspected, that the car is far too low to get over some of our "special" speed bumps. Cue a couple of sickening scrapes :( I don't think I've done any damage though. So unfortunately the Corrado is now stuck on my drive as I don't dare drive it in and out of my neighbourhood - going into my mechanic later in the week anyway for a checkover, so I'll get him to adjust the coilovers at the same time... Please everybody cross your fingers they're not seized!
  4. Hello mate! I just got my insurance sorted for my new 'rado. Chris Knott came out the cheapest but I've heard some horror stories about them. Next was HIC, until I told them I wanted protected no-claims which meant that while they were still cheap, they weren't as cheap as Brentacre, so I went with them. The guy there (John) was really sound, a Corrado owner himself, and very clued up. Ended up with £400 fully comp, legal cover, protected no-claims, all mods like-for-like and a bhp limit of 210bhp before my premium changes. Sorted!
  5. Hello mate! Another ex-polo owner (and clubpolo member) here! Had a mk2, then a mk4, then a Golf GTI 16v, picking up my first 'rado tomorrow! Welcome to the forum...
  6. Don't worry, I will! Oh and I 100% agree with your sig btw!
  7. Ah cool - mine's been smoothed and debadged, but I guess I could cut the clips off the back of the Corrado badge and double-sided tape it on?
  8. OK here's a slighty related question - what do you guys recommend for sticking badges back on??
  9. The fine would be annoying enough, but I don't think I'd risk the points, if they're going to be doling those out as well...
  10. Yeah could well have been Darren actually, Gus told me he knows the car pretty well and has always had good things to say about it! I was originally after a VR but couldn't find one with the mileage/spec I wanted, then this came up and I had to snap it up! Glad I waited and looked about rather than just grabbed the first Corrado I found. And more good news - my application for a council garage met with success today! So I'll be able to garage the C! :D £6.85 a week, and the garage is directly behind my house. Oh I think I'm going to drink a few beers tonight in celebration :D
  11. Cheers! It's got a MOMO snap-off wheel, and a red gearstick gaitor. G60 mats, usual driver's seat bolster problems but I'll be looking to source either a better condition seat or (ideally) some black leather! :norty:
  12. Kent from Bonny Scotland? That's a fair trek! Won't take long in a C tho! :)
  13. Cheers! Charger was rebuilt at Pitstop (I think) about 16k ago, so should be good for another 20k if I understand correctly? It's probably familiar to Darren at G-Werkz (used to belong to a lad called Gus) and the lad at SNS who put the chip together for it. As far as the paperwork and history's concerned it looks like it's had no expense spared!
  14. Yeah sound advice - I'm just going to go really steady until I "learn" how to drive it properly, maybe just spend a few evenings driving about listening to the charger howl, all part of the fun! It's had the boost return deleted too, so you get that PSSHT! on gear change which is just nuts... boost guage in the centre console etc. it's a real find! 116k on the clock and I paid £3000 for it which I thought was about right. I'll post up some pics of the engine bay when I get it, really clean!
  15. No, sadly the Golf has to go! Just don't have space for three cars (gf has a Mk4 polo) - I'd have to leave the Golf on the road and I don't trust the kids on my estate not to do something horrible to it! This is a pic from the advert - Check out the wheels! BMW E30 rims apparently, look nice and OEM but they're 15x7 for added girth! It's going to have to come up a bit, ride-height wise due to the evil speedbumps in my neighbourhood, but I'll keep it as low as poss:
  16. Well, after months of looking and asking stupid questions here and elsewhere, I finally found "my" Corrado! I'm picking it up on Sunday from a guy in Derby. It's a 1991 G60, in Tornado Red, recent respray, full (decat) powerflow exhaust, 68m pulley, SNS chip, Mocal oil cooler, RSR outlet, lowered on fully adjustable coilovers. This thing has had EVERYTHING. :D I must say though, going from my Golf GTI 16v this thing is scarily quick, as in I'm a bit nervous about driving it back to York from Derby! I'm sure I'll get used to the power and torque over time but were any of you guys a bit scared of your first C?? Or am I just being a girl?? I'll update this thread with pics as soon as it's safely on my driveway!
  17. Hello mate, welcome to the forum! Not an expert but I can tell you the G60 is supercharged, not turbocharged, 119k is below average mileage and maintenance seems to be OK if you get a good one and keep on top of it. Not sure about parts availability/price in the states but over here service parts are pretty cheap and plentiful while body panels and trim parts are getting scarce and sometimes sell at a premium. Hope this helps and I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable forumites will correct me if I'm wrong! You might want to check out the buyers guide and wiki http://the-corrado.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page.
  18. Ha ha check it out, my topic's got a poll!
  19. That mycarcheck.com website is fantastic! Bookmarked that, it's going to come in very useful. Also good to know my GTI has a clean bill of health!
  20. Yeah, after sleeping on it, I'm going to give it a miss. Especially as another VR6 has come up a reasonable distance from me, leathers, 115k, full service history and it's £200 cheaper! I'm not really in a position to make a gamble on a new car (although obviously you have no idea what will happen) - it's got to be a daily driver and while I don't do a vast amount of miles anymore due to car-sharing to work, it has to start, go and stop when I want it to!
  21. Yeah I get your point, but my worry with no history is that while it might be OK today, I'd have no idea how long certain parts would last - CV boots, clutch, various pumps, gaskets, seals, the stuff that just "goes"... but as I say I'm not terribly clever when it comes to engines (although I've read every Corrado buying guide out there)...
  22. Yeah give us some pics dude, I'm shopping for a very tidy Corrado at the moment! Good examples seem to go for about 3k as a general ballpark.
  23. Oh crikey, a lot of conflicting opinions here... I like the idea of ringing VW to see if it's got a service history with them - and from the pics if it's been clocked it's still not a very high miler, it definitely *looks* tidy. And the problem is, I haven't driven any other VR6s yet, so I'd have nothing to compare it to, to be able to tell if it was a good'un or not. Do you guys have one of those schemes where you'll go and look at a car on another member's behalf if you're local??
  24. Has anyone had one of these RAC 100 point checks done? I know they're not specialists on Corrados, but they seem very thorough, taking it out for a test drive and checking all the major points before reporting back to you. It's one of those things where if it pays off, it's a ballsy gamble and I'm a hero - if it doesn't, and the car is just one problem after another, then I'm a kn*bhead!
