  1. Mine's got 115k miles on it. I'm pleasantly surprised myself.. Well, apart from the fact that it's a little down on power at the mo and possibly misfiring. I can smell a coil pack... :(
  2. Yeah, but over £5 a set for VALVE CAPS?! Why do we put up with these prices for this stuff? :(
  3. I was just curious, to be honest. I'm not going to start fixing things that ain't broke. ;) Mine doesn't use much oil at all (max line to min line takes over 5000 miles, at which point I get the oil changed!). Ahem! So far, at least...
  4. If you don't mind me being nosy, what *did* this peace of mind cost you, roughly?

    teething problems??

I'd say it's most likely related, yep.

    noisy fuel pump

... at least that's for the in-tank pump. AFAIK the non-VRs have two fuel pumps. The in-tank one is small, and most prone to failure, but is quite cheap to replace. The main fuel pump is inline, and not in the tank, and is the £90 job.. The little one usually goes first, which places so much stress on the main one that ultimately it goes too. Or am I mistaken (again)?! :)
  7. There's nothing illegal on ebay, you should know that by now... No law governs online auctions specifically. If you go to see the guy and he lies to you face to face, you'd probably need a tape recording to be able to sue him even then. An ebay auction listing will not stand up in court.. :-\ As for this guy in particular, I'm sure it's not escaped anyone's notice that his ebay user id is quite ironic...
  8. I'd question any Corrado auction playing off the "future classic" idea with heavy modifications. If you're going to sell it as a classic car, it's really got to be as original as possible. I *do* run a few subtle mods (lighting) on mine, but it can all be returned to stock any time in five minutes. (Hey, I just like it that way.)
  9. Well.. L could mean 93, so it clears up which *half* of L reg you're talking about. I've seen this before...

    Tinting lights.

Only drawback with the all-red tint is the dubious legality... Though I haven't been pulled over yet... (says matt looking in the rear view mirror a bit more often)..

    squeaky clutch

I was going to suggest the slave cylinder and at least a full brake fluid change - this improved the clutch action on my VR a lot, it used to noticeably creak before I got that done.
  12. Remove them, AFAIK the broken one is very obvious when you look at it. Or plug it into the diags at your local stealer, or VAGCOM or whatever and it'll tell ya!
  13. Spares? nope. everyone has broken ones. You'll be a very lucky man if you find a replacement control panel with unbroken internals at a breakers. New panels are hideously expensive from VW. There is hope, however. Kevhaywire posted up a write-up on how to adapt the panel from a passat to fit and work in the corrado. They should be easier to come by at the scrappies than genuine corrado ones. Have a search for it. Meanwhile, grab the cables, adjust it so it points at the screen and you can at least demist when you need to, so your car will be *safe*..
  14. Yup. I'm interested to know how you had a protected NCD on a tpft policy with only 1yr no claims, by the way..
  15. Ouch, that still seems like a lot for tpft.. But as you say, you've paid now, so make some savings this year and wait till renewal time! :)
  16. That is an obscenely restrictive policy, chrishill. Who's it with? Why so pricey? How old are ya?
  17. The coil packs usually go in the cold snaps .. er .. like now then! Yeah, if it's an engine made in around 2000 -> 2001 there's a strong possibility you will need to replace all the coil packs before the year is out.
  18. Ya sad muppet!! :) :) I'd never do anything like that!! ;)
  19. Going back to a previous thread, I think the standard pipe looking retro is absolutely spot-on for a car that looks retro!! :)
  20. The traction control apparently only works in 1st gear, at less than 30mph. As you've noticed, it's *very* basic. Yes it just applies the brakes to the spinning wheel.
  21. It's not stainless steel, but it's some kind of hybrid (maybe an aluminium/steel alloy?). It's certainly not just normal mild steel, no question.
  22. When you say the revs dropped, I presume you had your foot on the clutch??? How would the revs drop if the wheels didn't slow down otherwise? And then, if your foot was on the clutch, why was your foot on the throttle? I'm sure we missed something there...
  23. As far as I've heard, the heater matrix recall was only applicable to earlier cars, late models had the later-type heater matrix with built-in safety valves. And even if it is applicable to your car, it wasn't a recall of the matrix itself, it was a recall of the car to fit in-line safety valves to protect the matrix. I've not heard of any more than that though...
  24. Just note that although they might be interchangeable, you might find that the fuel gauge under- or over-reads afterwards... Which means opening her up and bending the float arm the appropriate way to resolve that. Pain in the butt!
