Waynos tonight in Norwood - Looking good! :luvlove:
-
:luvlove: Guess that and gauze/split-hunting will be the first port of call. Will keep you updated :salute:

Let's hope it is an old hose! From what I can see there's just the main hose which goes to the air box, and a little hose joined onto it which goes somewhere towards the dizzy/upper mani? A while back an idiot friend (read: not me) overfilled my oil causing it to reach up to the airbox. Could this have caused some perma-damage? After i had cleaned it up it seemed fine (after letting it all burn out), and it has done about 500 miles since. Makes me wonder why people put jubilee clips around their breather hoses - hopefully it's a common problem, so i can sleep easier at night

Ah, present as always! You know i have to keep you on your toes david :norty: I did indeed use a new gasket, I can try to have a squeeze of the breather pipes tomorrow to see if i can feel some kind of gauze. Just had a thought though - should the breather pipe (going to the airbox) have a jubilee clip around it? (breather end). Mine never has (even on the old KR block), and it does seem like it is seeping..although i never had the problem before (KR breather is metal, 9A is plastic - possible slightly different hose fitment?) I've had enough of shelling out for premium oil only for it to go to waste, i'm reduced to buying Tesco Oil in the meantime until i get it sorted  Cheers

spotted 2 within the space of 10 minutes earlier in the week (possibly tuesday) in S.Croydon/Purley. The first was a blue VR with gold wheels, and the other was a standard green storm 8). Both parked up!

Hi guys (or davidwort :norty:) I noticed i've been losing oil, traced it to the breather unit (which is brand new). I've checked inside the air box and it's clean, although the hose going to it is a bit manky on the breather side. Anyone know what could be causing this and what I can do to resolve it? Car drives and idles normally, no smoking or anything - just smells foul when at temperature! Cheers, Nick

Firstly, presuming you are running a separate belt for the PAS pump, check the tension is ok and that it is turning straight when the engine is running and you might be okay for a bit, although i'd go a scrappy and get a new bracket and tension arm (i took mine from a passat). As for the blown radiator hose, it could be a number of things. - Are you overheating all the time, like when going 30mph, or when you are sat idle? If at idle, it could be the fan/switch - When up to temperature, is the top hose hot and the bottom hose cold? If so, could be a blockage or air lock - When you start the car, does the top radiator hose pressurise almost straight away? If so, it might be the HG? You may have an air lock or blockage in the rad. You also mention brown coolant, so if i were you i'd flush all of the coolant and re-fill it, making sure to get all of the air out (fill up with the cap off and keep squeezing the hoses until it gets up to temp). Did you manage to replace the thermostat? The main man to ask is davidwort though, he's the king of 16v 8)

Personally i'd go genuine, I've used GSF ones before and they were poo

It's located beneath the water pump, you'll find a plastic housing for it which is held in place by 2 bolts. The water housing sits above the power steering pump and sort of below the alternator. You will have to disconnect the PAS pump and swing it out of the way in order to gain access though, once done you can see the housing bolts if you look from underneath the car. I did this the other week and found that removing the alternator helped a bit too. Sorry for the bad pic, don't really have anything specific but i've circled where it is located. Good luck!

Unsure, but look like banded steels to me? http://www.bandedsteels.com/

Hi all, Have a humpless bench which had replaced the original humped one. I have the new central tunnel, but it seems that it isn't as simple as just swapping them over (unless I've missed something) - it seems that there's a great big metal bracket in the way!. Anyone done this before who could give any tips? Cheers 8)

Phoned up HIC today to ask why my premium went up and was told that all insurance has gone up 10% this year? Anyone know any more details on this? :cuckoo:
-
My HIC renewal is more than last year too :gag: Going to phone around tomorrow methinks

Probably worth posting a new thread as VR6 owners may not visit this one. Does it leak with the new one in place? Did you get a gasket with your order?

 got any pics? glad you tracked it down though, if only my weekend was as productive, my golf has been going mental and a complete new throttle body (drive by wire compterised nonsense) made no difference, trying a new manifold pressure sensor tomorrow, the Corrado is so straightforward in comparison :mad2: I now have a stinking cold and to top it all today the LNB on my satellite dish decided to stop receiving 50% of the channels including the HD ones :censored: I'll get some pics for you tomorrow - tbh i think the fuse thing could be from the uprated wiring loom i fitted, but if it actually was then i have no idea why or how it would affect the fan. The wiring is all pretty messed up anyway, not sure where i'd start in order to start tidying them up! I take it you have a mk4? We have one too, mechanically it hasn't let me down but the floors are completely soaked and I have mouldy door rubber...such a ballache i haven't even bothered to start repairing it yet! Good luck with it all though :salute:

On the 16v I removed the battery to get easier access and used mole grips to get the bugger off, it was actually a bit of a mission as it was completely crudded on. No sockets I had were big enough and I couldn't find the adjustable spanner  Good luck :salute:

Thanks to sixpotter for sorting me out with an Alternator for arranging a quick delivery :salute: :salute: :salute:

Ah Davidwort, excellent as usual :salute: I will attempt this tomorrow although i think that either way i'd have to invest in a new rad fan switch or new coolant  I hope your guide will be simpler than it sounds once i get down to it - i'll let you know how i get on. Thanks a lot david - after a bit of initial confusion i tested it and it turned out to be fine! I now have a spare brand new switch which strangely comes with a paper-ish gasket as Jim mentioned whereas the original one was copper :confused4: . Decided to change the thermostat which was a right PITA to get that sodding PAS pump out of the way, and that didn't fix the problem either. Thought about it for a minute, ran the car to temperature and literally just touched the electrical wire....whiiirrr....the fan switched on :bad-words: Why oh why didn't i do that to start with? I guess i can think positively and know that it has a new thermostat, but still. The wire in question goes into some fuse, and it's now taped up to the side of the radiator temporarily - think of it as a TV antenna, its positioned in a place where it works  but i'm going to have to think of the best solution to fix the problem. And the pressure problem in the top hose seems to have fixed itself....damn corrados No probs, hope yours is cooling as it should now :salute:

Shit the bed, i didn't think it would be that bad dude! But i think you should stick with it - mine was off the road for the best part of a year before i fell back in love and got it back on the road. I'm sure the others can give better advice as to what you should do, but it would be a shame for another good rado to go to waste

Hey i'm from Purley too, guess i'll have to keep a look out for you eh 8) Yours isn't the red one i always see is it? Yea that's me! There's another red one I see about sometimes though, It's got crystal/red rears and standard 16v wheels painted grey, I think it's a 16v because the wheels are 4 stud. Mine is red with grey 17 ABT 5 spokes, slammed. What have you got? Metallic green 16v, smalled on borbet As - i'll be sure to wave next time  Don't think i've seen the red 16v but there are a few others around the area

Which resistance should i be measuring? Sorry - my electrical knowledge is well, crap! Another thing, I've just realised that VW will probably take ages to get the part in and don't take orders over the phone which is quite sh;t as i work in central London and i really need the car to work by the weekend. I've been on vwspares.co.uk http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_cooling.php Can anyone tell me which one is for the 16v radiator? I think its the first one, but if someone could confirm that would be great 8) Cheers! **EDIT: just seen the date ranges for the two switches, ignore me!***
-
Also, if anyone knows a way to test the existing rad fan switch it may be handy..weather is nice could work on the car :norty:

Thanks for the reply Jim :luvlove: Forgot to mention, i did this last night :salute: And i guess i'll have to wait until tuesday before i can order a new switch ¬_¬ Thanks for the heads up about the seal, i'll be sure to get the guy to check the Mk2 list, although they're usually arses and say "registration number?"
