first pictures online need to know what people think
n3p replied to Baylez's topic in Members Gallery
Looks nice! I think you need a new expansion tank though :D -
I'm pretty sure it is that, should have a bent over tab that screws to the slam panel with a self tapper, it allows access to change the headlight bulb and adjuster I think. That does seem to ring a bell, now that you mention it i might just leave it off! OS headlight access can be a right PITA sometimes!

Might be on the other side, will take a look later on when I get home :salute:

Legend! only refreshed the page once

I knew i'd lose track of something during the swap! I think it goes around the airbox somewhere? Cheers
-
Changed rear pads and handbrake cables, re-attached driveshafts and took the new block for its first test drive 8) - I'm SO glad the clutch operated properly! My previous coolant leak also seems to have vanished :confused4:

Fired her up for the first time since swapping engines! Should be back on the road soon enough :norty:

Thanks for the info again David, Went to the scrappy and saw a few of the plastic ones on some mk3s - Just looking by eye, the hose diameter fitting looks alot smaller than the 1.8? Do you know if the hoses differ between to KR and the 9A? And if so, would the mk3 one be of any use? Just out of frustration too - what are these things actually called if i were to order one new? Would have bought it there and then, but i only brought sockets with me :bad-words: Cheers, Nick

I think that 23k is more than enough to get your 'rado sorted 8)

So I finally got got round to having another go, using the levering technique - success! Would it fit the 9A? Nope Does anyone either: -have the part number for the 9A version? -have one for sale? Boost? Thanks
-
Cheers for the input guys, I haven't had a chance to take another look at it yet, but will be sure to lever it out "gently" :norty: - i'll probably assign friday to working on the C again :salute: I'm presuming that these seals *must* be replaced?

Hi all, Currently in the process of swapping bits over onto another block, but there's one part which just refuses to budge :bad-words: I've attached a photo, i think it's called a ventilation cylinder? VAGCAT says its held on with 4 bolts with 2 gaskets/seals - Is there something i'm missing? or some 'special' way to break the seals? Even a trusty whack with the hammer of frustration wouldn't shift it! If anyone has removed this before, please help! Cheers PS:- pic shows only 3 bolts removed, but the other has now gone 8)

Hi all, Sorry if this topic goes under 'engine bay', i wasn't too sure! I was just wondering if somebody with any previous knowledge may be able to help. I ordered some 9A cylinder head bolts from GSF (GSF Part No: 01159), and upon arrival was rather bemused when I had a box of bolts from BGAutomotive (Part No. B6370) labelled as "GM-Chevrolet 1686cc". Did the obvious and called GSF who told me that surprisingly they were the same, and would fit. Being uber paranoid, could anyone confirm that this is correct? Thanks :)

Yes, use G60 discs and hoses i believe

Would this be alright? http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001K9WDA/kelkoocpc-hg-misc-21/ref=asc_df_B0001K9WDA300627 Attached a pic to show the condition atm :salute:

Cheers for the reply, I guess i'll have to look into this 'flick honing' malarky - Just figured that a gentle abrasive rub will lift that rust off! (and be cheaper). Didn't think any mild scratches would matter so much, as i've seen a honed cylinder! silly me :embarassed:

Hello guys, Seeming as my old engine failed me, I felt that now is the perfect time to get on with a swap. However, there is slight surface rust on the cylinder walls of my new block, and i've noticed some loose dirt that has collected on top of the pistons. Will wirewool + WD40 be ok to gently take off the rust? Or due to it being 'light' rust, would it come of after firing? I doubt it would need a re-hone. What can I do to remove the dirt? I've taken out what I can, but i need peace of mind! Would it be advisable to change the rings? This is my first swap, so it's all part of the learning curve! Any help would be appreciated, Nick

Behind the grille I found a high/low horn. If you only have one connected, try the other one :norty:

Cheers for the advice, i'll make sure not to move the belt! Just put the C in the garage - no loose nuts or bolts below the cam casing. Cheers for the offer, I might actually have to take you up on it if I get stuck! It's a KR to 9a swap, but the 9a has some extra goodies ;). The engines been sitting in my garage for about 6 months though, so i'm not really sure if there's anything i'd need to do to it before putting it in. I was just thinking of a good flush ;/. 20VT would be the dream, if only I hadn't bought a flat! I'm now on a terrible budget -_- (theres always next time!)

If you have no luck then there are locking nut remover kits for sale - never used them though so I can't vouch for quality or safety to your rims/hub!

I'm around the same height, and never found it to be uncomfortable. Do you have the later interior? maybe there's a comfort difference :D

Thanks for the the thoughts - tensioner seems to be the likely suspect. I've been rather busy to have a proper nose today, but will endeavour to do so tomorrow. I've decided to use this as an excuse to get on with the engine swap. Obviously I'd like to fix the current engine beforehand, but without spending too much - I would like to sell it on to make back a little bit of spare cash. Would it be simple enough to change the tensioner myself? For the meantime, i have swapped my insurance over to a spare car my stepdad owns. He seems to have an odd infatuation with mk3/4 golf cabs and owns 3 of them :cuckoo: (Still, atleast they are dubs!). I've temporarily got access to a 2.0 8v colour concept edition one. It's quite nice actually, the black heated leather makes me wish my C had it! (See pic attached - It's the dark one at the front) Waynos - I'm right by tuningwerkes! I know they should be my first port of call, but I always seem to bother Reuben so i'm trying to make it less of an occurance (Although I have no problem whatsoever with pestering the forum :D). You don't happen to be nr Purley Way Halfords? Saw a Red Corrado parked dead on a driveway for ages and even asked some lady if it was for sale  Edited to say to Jim: I was told the belt had been changed at 70k (113k now), but only the sellers words to go by, therefore no idea if the tensioner was done :(

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I've just had the worst corrado related night ever! Drove to Crawley after work, all the while noticing a slight whine coming from the engine bay. Couldn't do much as I was on the M23, so I gently eased it into town. Upon turning off to park up the whine suddenly got ever so loud as i pulled off from some lights, cue a dodgy smell coming from the engine bay, paired with smoke (highly embarassing!). Upon inspection, I'd noticed that this smoke was pouring out of the cambelt casing. After whipping it off to one side, I could see the cambelt turning but whining and smoking whilst doing so. My thoughts are cambelt tensioner, but I couldn't be too sure as it was so dark..could anyone confirm this for me? Being an idiot and not getting AA/RAC, I had to pester my friends dad to come and tow me from Crawley back to Croydon :|. It was dark, freezing, foggy as hell and $hit scary! I was also being towed by a Vauxhall white van, so I could see feck all in front of me! My tow virginity was reaped in the darkest manner possible. If this doesn't sound like a cambelt tensioner (searches seem to agree with me so far), could anyone suggest what else it could be? And is it easy to fix back to its glorious, original state? I'm asking because I have another engine sitting in my garage, which was due to be installed in april when the insurance/tax/mot runs out. I'm just thinking weather or not its worth fixing my current 16v, or to just cut my losses and get the new block in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm at my wits end :( Cheers, Nick PS:- To anyone who doesn't have breakdown cover - get it! don't be a 'tard like me

I'm glad it's not just me then! I think i'm gonna play it safe and replace the handbrake cables and have a look at the rubber brake gubbins - washes away all worries :D Dinkus - Do you know where they sell these repair kits from? GSF or *gulp* vw?
