Anyone know how to remove the door panel on a 16v 1.8?
20valver replied to castoutintheseventies's topic in Interior
Take a flat head screwdriver to the underside of the inside handle. Prise the top half of the handle off and unscrew the two screws. Then slide the suround for the inside door release handle off( not sure which way) and then undo any screws on the edge of the door card. Then just lift it off. -

That looks quality! Think you should send that in to Performance VW... get the VW fans wanting more!!! -
Just to add to the Optimax debate.... An Audi TT quattro will only produce 210-215 BHP on 95Ron UL To get the stated 225 BHP you've gotta use Optimax My 2p's worth.......

How much can you get out of a full tank?
20valver replied to vondribbley's topic in General Car Chat
I'm the same as Nik. around 250 on average of runs, but 300 is very rare, as most of my longer journeys are on A and B roads....which of course means lots of over taking  -
Yeh i'm the same.... had it drilled for about 3 months now. This last month I got my best MPG yet! I think it's because when you are trying to save petrol you know if you hear that rumble  to back of the throtle.

Sounds like its a close call between the two...... thought that this comparison would get a few opinions out!! Currently got a 16v and looking at one of the above. Was sure that a G60 would suit me best, because I thought it would be cheaper to run and fill up, and obviously cheaper to insure. but if there is not that much in it then.......I guess I better see what insurance I can get on a VR and compare that to a G60.......mmmmmm decisions.....
-
I know any corrado is expensive to run, but which does everyone think is the cheapest to run out of these????? 100,000 mile G60 (chip, pulley, stage 4,exhaust) :D 100,000 mile VR6 (induct kit, exhaust) Costs: Fuel, services, parts, insurance and anything else.......

Right I have got a mate to look over the engine, and he says that it seems to be spot on. However the guy offering the conversion has never attempted this type of conversion before, and clearly was not aware of the parts required to do the conversion proper. He attitude also seemed to be, 'not sure, see when we do it.....' which didn't exactly fill me with confidence. So I think it is back to plan B, sell it and get a run about until I find a mint low mileage G60. Then I can get PD to work some magic, and should be onto a winner! So if anyone knows of a minter on sale or going on sale let me know. Not bothered about travelling for the right car either.

It's with HIC. I was well shocked when the gave me the quote, considering it was £778 for mw 16v, although had no NCB at that point.

Cheers for your opinion everybody. I share many of these views, and I trhink I need to look into it a lot more before I commit. I am meeting with the guy again today, and I now have a few more questoins to ask. Main one being, engine numbers and then try and locate the log book for this engine. Also has the guy done the conversion before. What's he got for the rear end, bonnet and what to do about stud pattern. On a brighter note, I have checked with my insurance company, and the good news is that they price the insurance according to the car that the engine came from. So basically I will have to pay the cost of ensuring a standard VR6 golf, which os course is a lower group than the Corrado. So, aged 22, 5 years driving experiance, 1 years NCB, no points or claims and parked on my drive with a CAT1 = £842 TPFT!!!! ...but however do realise that there is a hell of a lot to consider and check first.........but I'll let you all know my progress thanks again, advise much appreciated :D

Roddy I was convinced that VR6 golfs were only available in 2.8l form. But I have had a look on the net and found a few things about VR6 syncro mk3 golfs. http://hem.passagen.se/vwnetz/golf3.htm I am still very hesitant about this conversion, but this is where I stand; Basically my 16V engine is 'smoking' to say the least, gearbox syncro mesh worn, and brakes disks need replacing alround. I have looked into selling it and cutting my losses and going for a low milage G60. However I am finding it very hard to sell at a price were I will not loose all the money I have spent, and be able to brige the gap in cost to find a good G60. So while in a local garage getting a quote for some body work, got talking to owner who offered me this engine and all other things neccesary for conversion for £1500 fitted. He has even said that for £150 extra he would fit new head gasket, and offer me some sort of guarentee over the condition of the engine, as fitting new gasket would give him chance to check it himself. It seems a relatively cheap fix to the problems I have, just a bit unsure at the mo..... :? Also I understand selling it on I would loose this money spent, but I don't plan on selling for at least 3-4 years. Anyway, there's my life story............ what do you lot think???
-
So did I. But apparently the later golfs used the the 2.9lump, and the car is from Denmark, if that makes a difference.
-
I have been offered a 2.9VR6 engine, gbox, ecu, hub carriers, brakes etc etc to fit to my 16v. I am not an experianced mechanic, and would be asking the garage providing me with the parts to fit them. They said they will replace the head gasket prior to doing all the work, and ensure me that the engine has come from a LHD Golf with 74,000km. A few questions really.... How can I check the milage? Will this conversion mean my car must become a Q plate? Is there anything to be aware of before they attempting this job? I am obviously very excited at this opportunity.....wetting myself!!! but don't want to get carried away......please advise!! :?

Darren that looks spot on! It looks to be a very tidy example, and with them brembos peeking through the wheels, and knowing whats under the bonnet!! What brake and torque you looking at? Very nice choice of wheels b y the way, are they OE VW ones?
-
Got a bit bored at work so decided to take an old pic of my car and change it a bit. The quality/detail of the picture was so bad that I could only really change the size wheels......anyone think they look good that big? .....well that wasted 5 minutes anyway!

Studying a computer science degree at Nottingham Trent uni. Currently in my 3rd year, on a 12 month placement at adidas Stockport, just outside manchester. Doing a mixture of stuff, database work, management reporting(BO), some intranet stuff and lots of corrado research!

tell me about it! Think I've finally found a buyer for my 1.8 16v, and I've got a nice 2.0 16v waiting. So far the 2.0 has had it's cat removed, clutch skimmed and flywheel lightend or unbalanced? I had a drive last night and the low end torque made it so much more drivable than the 1.8. ...but with 165bhp and 145lb....oooohhhhh!!!

Can you put some details up when you've spoke to Stealth. This sounds like a very worth while mod.

Corrado rear bench - Warning Triangle and First Aid Kit.....
20valver replied to Andy947's topic in General Car Chat
Have all of the back benches got an arm rest in the middle? I've been looking at a K plate 16v and it has no arm rest. It also has the switches in the door cards, and sliding heater dials, I thought that these changed in 92'? -
I've got the sachs on my 16v. I think they do the job well, (for the price) I got all new springs(boge) and dampers when I bought mine and they helped a lot. As for why rears go first, I haven't a clue, but mine had worn a lot more at the back when I took out my old ones.
-
Don't blame you. I think i'd have more chance of buying your mum!
