My gear change has been notchy for a while, and the bite point of the clutch has been fairly low to the floor too (two separate issues?), so I thought I'd do something about it. Changed my gearbox oil a couple of days ago in the hope that it would give smoother changes, but has not made finding gears easier or actually getting the gearstick into position. Got up early this morning to do the gear linkage adjustment (as per the stickied guide), and locating the gears is better now, although going into reverse still has a sticky point about halfway up the travel of the gearstick... Also tried bleeding the clutch master and slave cylinders again (did them on Friday night after the gear oil), and there was an almost endless stream of bubbles :shocked!: :( (Didn't drive it yesterday) Was using a valved bleed line, and am certain that no air was going back up the pipe into either of the bleed nipples, but ended up running 1 litre of brake fluid through, and just about got to the point where the bubbles were so small they could only just be seen close up. However, the clutch feels no better than before, in fact, you can hear and feel the cogs scraping when trying to get into gear, even with the pedal floored hard. I realise that it could be (in rough order of probability): Knackered clutch slave cylinder Broken/worn out clutch (in that special way the Corrado rewards you when you fix something by breaking something else  ) Knackered clutch master cylinder Air in the hydraulic lines Other? Basically undrivable - so what do I do? Especially gutted that it's the Oxford mini meet this afternoon and I can't drive my C there

Nice! 8) icanhascarparts.com? Thanks for assistance with the roof - was straightforward but took a while  Might need a lift to the Oxford mini meet tomorrow in the Legendary Burgundy if the G60 gearbox is not fixable in the morning... :(

Last night, gearbox oil change - dead simple, but gearbox hasn't got any better! :( Still almost unusable as I have to literally force it into gear, despite also re-bleeding the clutch slave and master cylinders :? Today, headlining removed and dented silver sunroof replaced with flat black sunroof in prep for the respray :D Tomorrow? Try to sort gearbox before Oxford mini meet, and give her a good wash! -
Replaced the gearbox oil with VW stuff yesterday evening, dead easy job, but just beforehand as I drove home from work my gear shift became extremely notchy and resistant :( Unfortunately the new oil didn't fix it   Seems like I'll have to do a cable inspection/realignment too. Worried that it won't be drivable for tomorrow's mini meet in Oxford... :( Had to replace the tilting sunroof panel so that the body shop can pull out the shallow dents in the roof when they respray in a couple of weeks' time, and won't have another chance before then 8) Took most of the day to get all the trim out and back in, but the sunroof repair PDF I downloaded from here was a great help - noted that late trim is a bit different in a few places, but no major issues. Leaving the headlining out for now so they can push out the bumps if necessary, and can remove the black sunroof panel and respray it silver once they have the roof line back how it should be :D will also give me a chance to clean the headlining up, as it's a bit grubby. Will probs check gear alignment and give it a good wash tomorrow.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean Dec, but I wasn't being very clear! I said 'plug' because the 3/8ths drive 17mm hex key I bought is male (as shown in the KB article pics), whereas most hex sockets are female, no? Didn't think it'd be right to call it a 'socket', as it's more like a plug! :? Not a big deal - just messing with words  Man, I must be bored :(
-
Defo an M10 - measured it, but couldn't find a long-headed bolt or nut :( Got the 17mm hex 'socket' (should be plug?) from Half' and have just Plusgas'd the two bungs - top tip that, along with getting some tubing and a funnel for the refill bit! :thumb right:
-
Planning on doing this very soon on my '92 G60, now at 175k on original gear oil, as far as I can tell... :pale: Link to the KB seems to be broken  but still found the info after a quick search there - need to get me one of those 17mm Allens! Looking forward to silky smoothness :D

Thanks, will try not to mince, and would appreciate your knowledge in getting old 'roof out and the new one in. :)

So bro... seeing as how we've spent the LAST 4 WEEKENDS STRAIGHT working on your C, any chance you could help me with mine sometime soon?

Where does the G60 metal water pipe bracket attach??
ProdigalSon replied to Supercharged's topic in Engine Bay
Not 100% sure, but think it does slot into the engine mount - I remember this being loose when I changed my coolant hoses and not having a bolt to fix it to anything... The lower metal coolant pipe did the same to me too, and that had a bracket that runs suspiciously close to the front engine mount too. The Bentley and VAGcat are not much help on this topic, as I'm sure you know  anyone got ETKA? -

Renamed the topic now that Supercharged has globalised it with 16V and VR6 info as well  -

I paid for Danny's car, so s t r i c t l y speaking, it's all mine   Picked up a monster petrol-driven metal cutter from a hire shop  and a couple of cans of Plus Gas, then went back to the monkster's to help butcher what was left on that car. Got dibs on the ABS gear and what looks suspiciously like a G60 subframe, on an alleged 16V car...? Sold the utterly dead Cat (it was rattling and loose inside) to a passer by for a tenner  which was exactly one-third of my purchase cost! :D Took a whole load of pics, aided by my better half, sent them to the booster, now waiting for photo postings on his Project Plum thread... -
Hey bro, Last dealer bits will be in on Saturday morning - can collect for you along with the angle grinder if you like? :) Looking forward to some demolition fun :D although I'll have to be wrapped up like an Eskimo as this cold has finally taken hold, and I don't want to string it out any longer than necessary :( Will bring my cam so we can get some progress shots, and it'll be interesting to see how it all goes together/comes apart! Catch you later,

Hmmm, you could be right, and it's quite hard to visualise with the purple there'n'all... But, I'm sure I've seen at least one silver C with matching grille on here - any ideas who? Thought it looked quite good :? -

Received my debadged grille from Jez, and swapped the OE part out. Looks a bit weird now due to mismatched wings/bonnet colour, more pikey than I'd like with that grille... Rather than looking like a stock car with a donor bonnet, it looks like it's meant to be ratty :( Thinking about getting the new grille painted along with the other bits, reckon a body-coloured grille will look nice. Have booked it in for paint in March when I'll be in the States... :) -
Collected late bonnet foam matting and a length of sunroof gasket strip from VW this morning... £110 after discount :( All set for the respray now though, just waiting for my paycheck!

Oh, something about a rolling start at 50ish, me in 5th gear and you in 3rd... They call me the Torquinator :robot:

8) Sorry bro  When we get your 16V turbo/G60 finished you'll wipe the floor with me! -
Hard to tell without removing the battery, but it looks like it is just the flat area on the right (inside the wing) that has been acid eaten and rusted through. The battery is probably still supported by the vertical metalwork under the left side and the flat areas to the front and rear, although you'll want to get it checked soon. To add insult to injury, that 13mm bolt holding the battery down is rusted/rounded :bad-words: Why? :( Nevertheless, your C did look soopanice in the dark on the ring road - at least you don't have any cosmetic bodywork to do (unlike some  )

Have been running on NGK triple-electrode spark plugs with greater than recommended gap  Now the sparks are back to OE spec  New Bosch W6DPO set installed at lunchtime today (and how very relaxing it is to do car maintenance at work) :) Quick blast up the road to 'test that they are working properly' (OK, busted, that's about the lamest excuse even I've heard!) and all was well. Set my diary alarm for 18th Feb 2011, to check them again
