  1. Thanks 8) do you not fancy a 90% restored mk1gti instead, bit more expensive mind you    any excuse to show it off & its not even done yet  Dont have a clue why this forum cuts off a part of my images when i host them on photobucket, can anyone shed any light on that for me? I resize the images to 800x600 on photobucket but always end up with bits cut off, only ever on here it seems to be an issue
  2. You want to brake this mk2 with me? MOooohahahah! :evilbat: NO  I bought my mk1 on impulse while looking for something completely different(wasnt even looking for a car) & tbh theres a good few times I wish I hadnt, Im sure it will be worth it in the end though, thats if i ever get it finished :cuckoo:
  3. Please be aware that being an early mk2 car it shares loads of parts with the mk1 golf gti! Im currently restoring a mk1 golf gti myself(90% complete) & its a world of pain trying to find parts for it with parts being dropped all the time, I thought I had everything I needed for mine to put it back together but a year on Im still missing vital components that I now have to find in good used condition My car isnt far from being complete but I can honestly say "NEVER AGAIN"
  4. what are the distinguishing features of the mk1 compared to the mk2? Ill be going past it tonight so ill get some snaps on the go for tomorrow :camp: Biggest distinguishing feature I would say is that the mk1 has twin round headlights whereas the mk2 has twin square/rectangular headlights, the mk2 is also rounder on the edges especially the rear quarter/hatchback mk1 can be seen here....http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_imag ... _large.jpg Mk 2 here.......http://www.dempseydismantlers.com/carpi ... -1990-.jpg Mk2 isnt worth anything really unless its concourse or has some other big things going for it.
  5. You sure its a mk1 rocco? I could be wrong but I thought mk1 roccos finished production in 82/83 as Ive had a few mk2s myself including an "X" & "Y" plate which were both mk2s.. If it is an A reg mk1 then it will be worth good money providing the shell is solid.
  6. Weitecs are brilliant for the money in my opinion...pricings not too shabby either when you consider theyre owned by KW & probably use a lot of the same parts, Ive had em on a few cars now & thought the ride/handling was firm but also plush/comfortable
  7. Check your brake flexi hose on the sticky caliper side, Ive had this problem before & on 1st inspection wrongly assumed it was the caliper, in the end I found the flexi hose had collapsed inside hence not allowing the piston in the caliper to draw back as it should when you take your foot off the pedal
  8. Im currently doing a full nut & bolt resto on a mk1 golf gti Ive heard the term "No longer available" more times than I care to remember :brickwall: , I hate new cars though! They have no soul & feel, well rather "soggy" for want of a better word, theres nothing quite like hitting the b roads in the rado though to make ownership worthwhile
  9. 8) just bought a set of these myself for my aqua vr & was thinking of doing the very same(honest guv  ), always thought these rims had the compomotive look, looking forward to seeing them on the car, they look awesome so far

    VR6T

Awesome 8) not jealous @ all honest :)
  11. As far as I know they dont have a diagnostic port mate, only the later 2.0 16v have them along with the VR6....Im sure somebody will be along shortly to confirm.
  12. The sumps are listed on GSF/ECP under golf VR6 mate, theyre all the same as corrado VR6, with only difference being the later models use a thinner gasket as far as i can tell. Its really up to you if you buy new bolts, I didnt but I dont plan having my sump off again anytime soon & as far as instant gasket goes if you use it @ all make sure its good stuff e.g. wynns(sp) black instant gasket..I use it routinely on almost any gasket seal on my engine.. Oil pumps are around £100 mark give or take a few quid & probably wouldnt hurt to stick a new one in @ that mileage.... HTH
  13. Big thanks to "Alonzo", I bought an exhaust from him yesterday & paid less than 24 hrs ago, the exhaust arrived @ my door 10 mins ago.............in Scotland.........top man
  14. I wouldnt worry too much mate, Ive found the pricing in the dealers to be up & down something terrible, it can even depend whos on the parts desk on any given day how much discount I get. What I have found is if I go in armed with a price for the same part from somewhere else i.e. TPS, then my dealer will try & get as close as possible to it, this has worked for a few things with the dealer price matching for me on stuff like timing chain kit for my old charged mk2 VR. Like I say though it can depend whos on the desk & whether they like your face or not  Just like the other week when I went into the tyre place for a couple of front tyres, they quoted me £120 & I said naaaaa! I can get em for £100 10 mins down the road, guy says gimme 2 mins & comes back & says OK £100 it is 8) thing is I lied & the other place had quoted me £120 too     Like me old mum always said "if you dont ask you dont get"
  15. Cheers lads, you just gotta get stuck in. I didnt get it finished until last night as i spent 1/2 of thursday searching for a new radiator without success :( The best price I could get out of my local dealer for a new o.e. rad. was £179 inc. vat  my old ones gonna have to do for now @ those prices :cuckoo: While I was @ the dealers I also picked up a new cam sensor as mines was throwing up a fault after scanning with vag.com, after getting home with it & trying to fit it unsuccessfully I realised it had 2 removable plastic rings on it that I then removed & the sensor fitted perfectly  So, all back together now with the following ending up replaced LUK clutch kit new clutch slave cyl. all new engine mounts new cv boots new crack pipe new oil cooler gaskets & water hoses water pump cam sensor 2 x track rod ends new aux belt I did think about doing the chains as theres no record of them being replaced & the cars done 152k however its one of the quietest VR engines Ive heard tbh so I didnt bother. To say the car feels transformed would be a massive understatement    steering feels excellent now as does the featherweight clutch & I was obviously missing a few ponies with the duff cam sensor. hopefully I can just enjoy it for a wee while now & get on with finishing my mk1 golf before the good weather arrives....
  16. My 1st post about my current daily chariot which is a 1994 aqua blue vr6, bought it in november with no tax or mot & needing a matrix & a few other odds n sods. I got it motd fairly easily but there was still a few jobs looming, got the matrix out of the way 1st, managed to do it with the guide from here without taking the dash out    The clutch felt fairly ropey although no slip or anything the bite just wasnt very good so I had ordered a clutch in December & its lay there since.....right until yesterday morning when the clutch in the car gave up completely. Limped home with the car & as I had a few jobs to do on the engine I decided to whip it out complete with box :gag: I had been gathering new parts with this in mind over the past few months including engine mounts, oil cooler gaskets, sump gasket, crack pipe etc. Started @ 10am this morning & just about managed to get it back in before dark o'clock  heres a few pics of some of the stuff i had to do.... engine box out complete with downpipe had a bad oil leak from the cooler whipped it off... new gaskets.. & of course the crack pipe lug broke off as per usual & the other end snapped aswell just for good measure Looked rough in here too.... Used this wee gadget.. New crack pipe & cooler hoses fitted Never got any pics of the clutch change, by the time I remembered to take pics I had a lot of stuff done Ive got the engine back in the bay with new mounts allround & the driveshafts(with new cv boot for you eagle eyed o.c.d. people) exhaust etc. all lined up ready to be connected back up tomorrow, I ran out of light tonight & I was bloody starvin having not stopped for a scran all day :cuckoo: Wish me luck finishing it as knowing our weather it will probably be either a monsoon or under 6" of the white stuff  P.S. I could really do with a new radiator if anybody has a good used one kicking about & were willing to sell me it & ship it to me
  17. Woohoo fixed it    After doing a search & trawling through the results for what seemed like hours last night I found this thread viewtopic.php?f=19&t=77994 Went through the checks listed there & found I had no live 12v feed to the the locking system on the drivers side, so I probed the live wire with the multimeter @ 6" intervals & found a break in it almost straight away, stripped all back new bit of wire soldered in & jobs a good un! Big thanks to Yandards for the write up contained in the above thread, couldnt have done it without knowing what to look for, simple when you know how :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
  18. Ive just stuck a brand new door handle on my 94 VR due to the central locking not working from the drivers door, works fine if I use the passenger door & locks the drivers door & boot no problem from there. So I had a quick look @ the handle in the drivers door & discovered a broken wire right where it enters the handle, OK least I know whats wrong I thinks & promptly buys a new handle & fits it this afternoon to find its not made any difference  :pukeright: Can any of you guys enlighten me as to what the problem may be? Im assuming it cant be the pump or vacuum pipes as all the locking works from the passenger door as Ive said & being a brand new handle I would expect the switch to be working, what else can it be? Can I check for a live feed to the handle wiring maybe? Its a 3 pin plug so again Im assuming theres a signal wire here & a live & earth possibly? Please help as its doing my head in when I have to go for petrol or pick anybody up....
  19. Totally understand where your coming from mate however, Ive changed lots of these mounts over the years & believe that 1/2 the major issues with cheap mounts come from not replacing all the worn ones together(i.e. replacing the front one & leaving the rear or gearbox ones) hence straining the others & speeding up wear on any new ones...if you catch my drift :cuckoo:  @ £60 the set Im happy to take a punt anyway...it cost me £90 from the dealer the last time I bought a single front mount from them for my old valver Time will tell if its false economy i suppose
  20. Just bought a set of these off ebay...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-VR6-VENTO ... 2eab24fd2f While I do realise the quality may not be like o.e. but @ £60 a set inc. delivery they cant be that bad, even if I got a year out of them for the cash paid, what do you guys think? anyone already bought some from the guy? (tierod69 ebay name) Ive used him for lots of stuff in the past & had no issues...... So your thoughts?
  21. Nahhhhhhhhh theyre only worth a tenner each    I will take em off your hands :norty:
  22. Hey guys, im struggling to sell my 20vt Rado so looking @ all my options with what to do with it, I have a mk2 golf gti that ive dropped a VR lump in which i just have to finish off BUT it has crossed my mind to take the 20vt lump out of the Rado & drop it in the mk2 which would probably sell easier? So.....what i need to know is can i do exactly the same with the Rado in regard to converting it to a VR?(the mk2 i currently have is the 2nd mk2 ive converted to VR so im comfortable doing it) i.e. when i do the mk2 conversion i just unbolt the cradle complete with box, shafts, hubs etc....can i do the same with the rado? I think the radiators/fans are different but im told a Seat toledo 16v rad is the same dimensions as the rado VR & i have 1 lying here Any issues with the steering rack etc? fusebox the same ce2? Is the mk3 golf VR rear axle the same as the Rado VR? Any other issues with regard to fitting the golf VR drivetrain? Lee
  23. wouldnt think so mate as the 7A is a straight 5cylinder , then again anythings possible, only 170bhp though so plenty easier alternatives
  24. Hi folks, ive already got 7.5" borbet As on my rado but i have the chance of swapping my rears for the 9" version, Question is will they fit straight on without arch work? if so what size tyres do people run? cheers Lee
  25. Its cool lads, got it sussed, turns out its only this particular flavour of 20vt that has 2 pipes here & im reliably informed i can happily block one of em off, it used to run to one of the N112 valves which are deleted when using Qpeng....
