  1. so the beam is getting bushed tomorrow, then I have to sort out some copper lines for the brakes and hopefully have some standard springs on the way too! will have to investigate this rear beam bracket issue, the BPR bracket is kinda ratty. I'll try to get a pic of it.
  2. i thought the injectors were working a lot harder than 80% to make 300hp?
  3. Just had a look at a Stage 1 vortech kit website, stage one only makes 320hp so only an offset of 20hp to find. It uses a 4 bar FPR, is this uprated then? if so, it might be used in conjunction with the "Proprietary GIAC tuned fuel and engine management" to squeeze a little more pressure out of the fuel pump and subsequently into the cylinders. Maybe.
  4. if you do a search for the seat rack i'm sure you'll find something as it's ringing bells in my head now too.
  5. omg, twin chargZZZ!!!1!!! do it :notworthy:
  6. yup corsameal, read the bump steer thread that Supercharged started.
  7. :pale: Oh dear. Well I have bought the beam bracket which has the BPR bracket attached to it, so the decision now is whether to put that on and have a new bracket there or not  Thanks for the heads up though, I wouldn't have thought about that at all! The old ones look really nasty, but we never managed to undo the old ones from the breaker car, so maybe they will just get tidied up? :confused4:
  8. i hate banded steels, but those look really REALLY good  this photo is easily the best corrado rear i've seen in a long time, good work
  9. Ok, from what I understand: 300hp R32 on the stock management is pretty much pushing 100% duty cycle on the injectors, I think? If so, we need to know fuel pressure in the rail and injector nozzle aperture to work out how much each of the injectors are pushing through (100% duty cycle = injectors open all the time) and take into account the SG (specific gravity) figure of say 97RON petrol, we can get either a volume flow rate in cubic metres per second or a mass flow rate in kg per second. Either rate can be converted into litres per hour easily enough. Any errors in that, let me know.
  10. Beam is going to the tip today along with those shocks. I think it's just too dead, would need a fair bit of work / shot blasting to get it back to a workable condition. Hoping to start on the new parts sometime, but it's all academic until the new beam has the bushes pressed in :salute:
  11. it's maths-able for a geeklet (like me) :dorky: . Would need some info about the fuel injection system though, maybe the map too.
  12. Welcome fellow student :salute: bay looks very tidy, and a good stealth 2.0 install :D are the wheels momo arrows or something else?
  13. Might have been drunks mate, but yeah never nice to find. Well done for engineering the new part, looks like it'll last!
  14. awesome pics Pete! yeah CM bushes are a MOFO aren't they! gave up on mine and got the garage to do them too  the CM itself cleaned up well too, those VR ones are getting rarer and rarer these days, unlike our 4-pot ones which are shared with Mk2s. do you have braided PAS lines or do you run an oil cooler through the PAS cooler's cutouts on the rad support? that is actually a genius idea! :D
  15. I have VW Power and Style by Ian Kuah, it came with my car  quite an interesting read, and more technical in areas than I expected. Good for a freebie, not sure i'd buy it though.
  16. Erwins really are worth their weight in gold! So useful. Shame you can't buy Plusgas in barrels really, that'd be awesome! Thanks fla, I hope it'll be quite good when I'm done. Shame it's all standard parts really, only the powerflow is non-OEM. Looking forward to it being a lot tighter all round though :salute:
  17. Almost a week without an update?! Shame on you all...;) Here's some from me:
  18. yeah, fair point. I don't always remember labour / tool charges with these sorts of things.
  19. Just realised I didn't need to attack the BPR as it bolts to the car and not the beam. Oh well  Braking system is a good place to swap out parts for new anyways.
  20. Cracked on with the rear beam again today, knew I had to cut the old brake lines out which were the main issue, so felt quietly confident that I could get it all off today :salute: As always, a torrent of pictures await... Brake lines still reluctant to move from the BPR :bad-words: Only way this one would come out. Oh well. When it rains, it pours... :pale: Erwin to the rescue  Who's your daddy? BPR shots. Looks ok doesn't it! Threads still clean, possibly reusable. Loosened the beam bush bolts last week, but these brake hoses are covering the heads of them so you can't get them out. Took out a nice chunk of frustration on both of them with help from some wire cutters.. GRRNRRRRNNNGGH. End of the hose I snipped in half, managed to pull the dead end through and off the beam which allowed me to get the big bolts out. Lower suspension to beam bolt - VERY stubborn. Hmm, that would be why then. Where's the PlusGas...? Nut started to spin so I prised the plate off the back of them to get a spanner over the top of it and stop this nonsense. Double teamed. There's zero room to beef those bolts off, took me ages and my arms hurt after even though I had a 2ft bar which barely stuck out the back of the car for some proper leverage! :/ He lost. So did he. More losers. Do not test my 2ft breaker with Torque-o-matic attachment (me) :robot: Started in the boot, loosening suspension top mounts. Got the speaker plates off after I found that pesky little screw hiding behind the rear seat upright! That's right. Look in good condition, although the interior is dry and they have rubber hats so as expected really. Left them both to soak in PlusGas. bolts came off very easily after a nice soak. Slightly more corroded bolt hidden under the top washer on the suspension. Ohh yes! You'd think this would just turn and turn as I'm not holding the flat faces at the top. Do not underestimate the Plusgas-Erwin combo :nono: Wonder how long those rubber mounts had been there, a little ring of rust around the inner edge. ...and stay down! Absolutely foobed suspension. Those bump stops used to be in one piece...about infinity years ago. First top plate I've seen with a hole! looking forward to handling when I get the Sachs Gas shocks on  More destruction...I do kinda need to use those springs, but it's not looking promising is it! Bye bye twin turbos. Note to self: don't get "big air" on old suspension. Arches. You KNOW I'm gonna scrub these to a DBP finish! 8) Beam off the car. Doesn't look too bad really, some obvious rust but 80% of Wax coating is still present. Ah.... those would explain my little wiggle in the wet a few months back. Not too bad for what could quite possibly be the original 17-year old rear beam. Hopefully will still see some service yet. Not looking forward to prying those apart! Wasn't it nice that the person who swapped the BPR kindly replaced the bracket too? Oh wait, he didn't. Or the spring. :bonk: Artsy :camp: Brackets from beam to chassis. Can't remember if I have any new ones of these... I'll have to look through my parts warehouse  Personalised back box....by my finger  Random underside shot. That zorst bracket could do with changing! Nice to know Powerflow put stainless fittings on too :bonk: Another good few hours work! New beam still needs to have bushes pressed in, but I can get all the other stuff ready to go on. One of the calipers is being reused so that'll need prepping and new seals, and I need to make up about 79 hard brake lines but it's all part of the fun I guess!
  21. interesting point David, I think this may answer your question? Spacer plate approach
  22. I will post up the pics :salute: Ok, so they're not a hunnnnndred percent made on a lathe...bit of CNC machining too. sorry about wonky pics, i pinched them from cgti.
  23. Ah yes, the 16v (US Spec CIS-E) fuel pump flow rate varies depending on voltage at the pump: 9 Volts - 24 litres per hour 10 Volts - 45 litres per hour 11 Volts - 64 litres per hour 12 Volts - 81 litres per hour Figures extrapolated from tables and graphs from Mk2 Golf/Jetta Bentley. Hope it's useful.
  24. £100 seems like robbery, they're only made on a lathe FFS!
  25. Thanks for that Kip, very useful! There seem to be a few packages around at the mo: SW, AutoCAD, Catia and Pro-E spring to mind. SW is quite easy to understand, but I guess it's subsequently limited by what it can do because of the simple user interface. At the mo it does everything I need and it's free, but it'd be good to start using something else aswell. I'm thinking I would like to do this kind of thing for my placement year but am unsure where I could apply to
