Interesting stuff Coxy. Would be good to see some beam pattern specs if possible. I've just covered HID lamps (mainly Bi Xenons) in Material Science and they're fascinating bits of kit. I wonder how they stand up in a 20-year old lens design! All the modern HIDs for current model cars of all marques have bespoke lenses and housing units and can cost £800+ a pair I think. Make sure you don't melt yours, pretty sure OEM headlights are obsolete now. -
Solidworks' FEA - first section modelled

Does anyone know where I can get technical drawings from which I can 3D model this manifold, or am I consigned to having to cut one up? :pale: -

Bump Steer - Thoughts on upside-down track rod ends?
boost monkey replied to Supercharged's topic in Drivetrain
sorry, they're normal steel with a black oxide finish. Edit: found the website now too Performance Machine Works Sorry for the off-topic as these LBJEs won't actually reduce bump steer as the TCE on the rack is left unchanged! -

pics for clicks: looks like carburised / carbon steel to my eyes. -

just been browsing, CGTI had a GB on tyhem a while back. Cost around about £130 ($197 when the GB was on) and apparently not for road use? perhaps they're not made so well and might pop out on rougher surfaces  -

those LBJ extenders are a great find Stu! :D saw them first on CGTI: seem to be a few boys on there who know what works and what doesn't. IIRC they're not too expensive either, but as Kev said you have to make sure all the other geometry (roll centres) line up too else they're not much use by themselves. -

Loving the new title :notworthy: -
It can be cheap, but remember it'll run out! Last time I heard refills aren't too pricey though (£15 a litre or some such?) you'll need a progressive controller if you want to use it a lot (nitrous at low revs could rip your engine apart), or just remember to be careful with it.

David's right, I think if you massively changed the intake system (carbs/ throttle bodies) then you would get a little past 180 perhaps but it's an expensive way of doing it: the carbs will be fuel hungry and the TBs will need a lot of map work to get running spot on.

write a list of the symptoms and what you have done so far. You might want to put the injection relay back to it's normal operating position as if you've been playing with it then it might hinder the troubleshooting process.

when it is buzzing (vibrating) it is pulsing a small valve open and closed many many times a second (I forget the frequency) so yes it is working! the thing that makes it buzz is the switched 12V+ supply: if you just connect a permanent 12V+ supply to it, it will go *click* and just stay open: this doesn't do anything useful though as when it is vibrating it is pulsing small amounts of air back into the intake system which is how it stabilises the idle. That's how it makes sense in my mind!

full beam doesnt work (upgraded wiring loom is in)
boost monkey replied to DEL VR6's topic in Exterior
good question! I guess just check the contacts as it's obviously got points which make a circuit when you move the stalk. I'll check the bentley when i'm home and try to post something up :salute: -

also try and check the initial fusebox relay for the stalk if there is one :salute: -
remove the centre console? run us through what you're trying to do and why.
-
Have you checked the water pump and thermostat are working properly? 90 degrees isn't a lot for water temperature, the standard thermostat doesn't even open until 87! The system is pressurised and mixed with coolant after all so won't start boiling until somewhere over 100degrees. What golf was the radiator from? if it's the wrong size that may be adding to your problems.

sounds like the stalk is dead, the relays in the loom are obviously working fine if all dipped and main beams are still coming on. When on full beam, if you hold the stalk in then the dipped beams will come on aswell so I would check your stalk for sure. -

 hey, for all I know there could be some new fabric out! -
sounds a lot like a £20 fusebox and a couple of hours under the dash would not be a bad place to start! but if you wanna give up on it, I'm sure someone else can fix it ;)

at least you've got the Bike Kate ;)
