Renshaw project (probably going to sell / swap)

Flash on the last picture? Looks more like blackberry than DBP. Good work with swapping the doors though. I'm still after hens teeth early DBP wings. -

Yes, early Cs and mk2 gtis have the same calipers if that's what you mean? So it is the age old problem. But whether it is the calipers or the cable on my golf I'm not sure. I know cables are liable to seize in the channels sometimes. What calipers do late Cs use at the back as standard? -

So I got the new tyres on today, and I don't think anyone will be surprised to know they are much better than very worn unbranded fronts. But there were some things I didn't expect - 1. car pulls away from standstill much more smoothy. I guess the rubber can take the torque much better than the knackered old tyres. But it feels like it has new engine mounts which is really odd! 2. no vibration at high speeds - given due to new wheel balancing. 3. steering a lot lighter - i thought that was more due to tyre pressure but it seems higher quality tyres help this too. One bad thing - the car wasn't progressing very well on the motorway so I pulled the handbrake up ever so slowly and there was no resistance. This happened really badly about 2 weeks ago after i went food shopping so plenty more weight in the boot. I temp fixed it with a dose of PlusGas and that eased the problem but it's doing it again. I'm wondering whether it's bad calipers or the cable going. Either way I have 2 sets of brand new rear calipers so i can rob those, and I can also pinch the cable I had stored for the Corrado too. Any thoughts welcomed Jon -

agree with above, get an older 4cyl shell to drop a 20vt straight into if you want to - leave the VRs as they are.

the V8 would go in the C if anywhere! The golf is too small for that. Besides I'll let MJ do that one as we know she is getting close soon. When I get some blueprints of a Corrado shell I am going to build one completely in CAD and see what engines will fit where. -
I have a spare dizzy if you want it. Not tested it in a few years, think I bought it for my Corrado but my issue turned out to be the coil so I never fitted it.

Just ordered new rubber for the fronts - Uniroyal Rain Experts @£48 each fitted. That'll be done tomorrow. Standard 185/60 R14 again. The Hero(!) tyres I have on the front are down to the wear markers - wet roundabout are a coffin dodging exercise and they're even squealing around dry corners now which makes me look like a tard :-/ Looking forward to getting those on - I was adamant about getting them done for £100 the pair fitted, so that's nicely within budget :D It should mean I can do more than 60mph on the way home on wet days without worrying I'm going to kill myself. The rears still have some Conti somethingcontact on. EcoContact might be. -
How much is a fortune to you? You should be able to pick up a HSS titanium drill bit for under 10 quid which will do the job just fine.

then you don't deserve to have the best colour. Let's be honest, this thing is coming up to 40k which means all the 5k, 10k, 20k and 40k items need to be done. Besides, it has the horrific blue and green interior and there's no real reason to suggest that it'll be that tighter or better maintained than someone's car that has 139k on the clock. :D ---------- Post added at 02:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ---------- oh god!! Just spotted the speedo has been swapped and car is actually on 119k! Why are any of you drooling over this???

Mine used to do this all the time becasue the thermo switch in the head was dead which meant the cold start injector never worked. This obviously only affected idle from cold though. Try the vac lines as mentioned and see how you get on. Where are you located b the way? Always useful to know who is near you for tips and advice!

Cheers Kev, yeah I have to go to uni to find out the stuff you already know! :/ Firing order is indeed important for a smooth running motor and reducing imbalances :D I'll have a look at that wiki for sure.

I'm pretty sure the Bentley says that the gap between bumper and wing recess should be 8mm. Not sure how you would get it back to that though. Perhaps new brackets?
-
100% agree. My project is slowly becoming a tumbleweed due to scarcity of parts and then inflated prices on the parts you CAN find! :/ ---------- Post added at 01:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:10 PM ---------- @Jim, if you're planning to cut one up can I have a look too? :D

Ahhhh we have the same seats! I don't like the blue and green fleck. Want some of the black with purple flecks so I can colour coordinate! :camp: so what's the plan with the block then? I think I had a slight aneurism when I asked about 10psi  :/ Does the Bentley tell you what the borderline ffigures are for wet and dry compression for the block?

having a hot intake pipe is still going to conduct/radiate some of that heat into the air flowing through it. That's the point I'm making. It may be a few degrees but it's still happening! If whoever's car that is is happy to settle for that then fair enough. Besides, I don't think intake manifold pulse dynamics are affected before the TB, only after when the manifold starts so perhaps there is a better way of routing the intake. End of the day, if the car's owner is happy then it doesn't matter :D I think you're missing my point matey. In my job if I measure to the nearest 15 degrees and say 0 and 15 are the same, then I am going to get fired. Simple as that. Everyone has different tolerances that they work to, I'm just saying there is going to be a difference between a VR6 and an inline 6. Heck, there'd be a difference between an inline 6 and a 5deg banked V6 too! That's the second point i'm trying to make. I don't mind if you don't agree with me, just trying to clarify. Anyways, keep up the good work! :D

Agree 100% Yan. Footman James wanted less for us to start a new policy than to adjust a current one. Madness!
