  1. My mate is a member of the Seat Cupra owners club in Teeside. I have been on a couple of their little excursions and they are a good laugh. Definitely worth orgainising one for ourselves northern people. Maybe in summer though when it is a little more pleasant.
  2. Viper Systems are not worth the money. Better off spending that kind of money on an HKS mushroom filter or a BMC box or a hell of a lot less on a straight replacement cotton panel filter (can recommend Green from personal experience but I'm sure there are others that are just as good). Have a Stainless Mesh filter on mine which is brilliant for getting air in and a fantastic induction noise but they are not that brilliant at filtering the air so it depends on how much you are prepared to punish your engine.
  3. Good VR engine should be smooth accelerating, start first time every time, cooling system is pushed to the limit when you are in town and sitting in traffic so let it get fully hot to check it is all working ok, don't worry too much about it getting to 100+ degrees when it is sitting still tho. Lumpy idling is common and no big deal.
  4. Welcome Rob, take it that is your motor in the pic
  5. I've not had my VR6 for long but just to give you an idea, the thing I noticed most about my C when I first got it was the superb handling as standard. It is good.
  6. Andy not too sure about yours as yours is a later version of engine to mine. Is the bit that's leaking driven by the fan belt? If so that's your water pump. My oil cooler is located on the front face of the block directly in the centre. It has two water pipes attached and is fixed to the block. Right next to it is the oil filter. Henny they do appear to be joined somehow, have no idea about the insides of the oil filter housing as I have not yet dismantled it so I couldn't tell you if it sounds right or not. Don't have a garage so local one did my oil change. Planning to leave it in anyway as new cooler is £100 so going to just replace 2 pipes and see how it goes. If I need a new cooler then I'll just have to take it to bits again, wasnt a big deal.

    VR6 Rad blown.

Like I said took me an hour with regular ref to my manual to get rad off, recon I could replace the rad and put it all back on again within a further 2 easy. Probably more like 1.5, total time 2.5 - 3 hours against his 5 and much less "fiddling around" and "needing patience" and certainly no "lowering slightly to give room to turn it, etc..." No offence meant here by the way but having just done it, I would advise following the manual and dismantling the front end it really is one of those jobs that looks much harder than it is.
  9. The only thing the CC is there for is to remove petrol fumes from your exhaust so that they don't ignite inside your CAT. Have those that have removed it also removed their CAT's if not have you had any problems with it going when you've been ragging it? You definitely shouldn't block that breather but does the lack of canister affect the absortion rate, do you get any fuel into your exhaust (ie flames, smell of fuel etc...)

    VR6 Rad blown.

Would like to see how that's done, I've just dismantled my front end today and to be honest it wasnt that hard. Only took an hour with a basic set of tools and being very careful and lots of going back to my manual. If there is a method it will be risky in terms of injuring yourself and or damaging something and probably not much difference in time from lack of fiddling around.
  11. Do you know how it comes off Henny? Appears to be attach a big socket onto the bit that sticks out and turn just like a filter, that right?
  12. Well took the front end of my car to bits today and discoverd the problem is the pipe from the oil cooler to the block has burst. Going to get a replacement. Does anyone know what the flow is. I would guess water would go into the cooler then into the block. Is this right? Just thinking there could be a further problem that's caused that pipe to go.
  13. Henny, it's a VR6 so it should be fun. Hopefully I should be able to get to it if I dismantle the front end. Will check if it's one of the hoses first though I think. I think if the unit had blown it would be leaking water into the oil or oil into the water and it wasn't.
  14. Last night blasting down the A1 when car suddenly started dumping its coolant. Had a look and it seems to be coming out of the gasket between the block and something which looks like some sort of oil & water heat exchanger. It's right next to where the oil filter mounts. Anyone have any ideas whether this assesment of what it s is right and then Is it straight forward front slam panel, bumper radiator etc. off to get to it?
  15. DeTomaso Pantera Ford GT40 TVR Tuscan Aston Martin DB7 Vanquish For pure visual perfection even though the build quality was pathetic. Jaguar XJ220
  16. A friend of mine told me about a friend of his that has a CorradoVR6 with a supercharger kit on in his yard. This woud be great except that it's a ringer so today the insurance company turned up to the local scrap yard and watched as all the fluids were drained out, ,then the engine run until it went bang, then the whole thing dropped into the crusher and squashed into a little cube of metal. I wanted that charger kit, I even offered money and it was all crushed anyway because of the car it was on. Blasphemy
  17. I knew from the start it wouldn't be brilliant and I don't really mind it now its just if it is using more petrol than it should it means that there is something wrong usually and I don't like having things wrong with my car.
  18. Hi after reading the post in commonly asked questions I am now a little concerned about my VR's enourmous fuel consumption. At the moment I am doing well if I get 27mpg on the motorway, 18 - 20mpg round town and 22mpg combined. Whereas other people seem to be getting in to 30's on the motorway, what can be causing the extra consumption and how can I fix it?
  19. The noise from the exhaust does increase the higher you want your gas flow. However, when it comes to power gains it depends on how the engine will react to having the exhaust gas flow increased as to how much power you will gain if any. Eg, removing the CAT on a normally aspirated VR6 will lose you 4-5bhp. Quite a few modern engines experience this as most modern ECU's are set up to use the back pressure from the CAT. It's only forced induction engines that always benefit from straight through exhausts.
  20. I bought a plastic one from the dealer for mine then discovered one underneath my spare a few days later. So I have a spare, first one to send me their address can have it.

    16v vs VR6 MPG

Little bit worried now cos I am lucky if I get 26-27mpg on the motorway and less than 20 round town. Arse
  22. Some people are just greedy, do you have any idea the stress I went to to find mine.
  23. Went out to get the engine number of my VR this morning, pulled on the bonnet release lever and just heard a thunk as the cable snapped or came out of something, not sure what. Does anyone know how to get the bonnet open without that lever?
