James actually, but close enough ! Why do you think I bought the rack. So I could store the step ladders somewhere. Could do worse than an 8v though. I know it may as well be the other side of the world, but there's a potential blinder on ebay at the moment. Silver, two owners, standard, 60k (and looks it as well). All for £1595. If you bid them, I'm sure they'll come down as well. Downside (possibly for you) is it's in Swansea. If I hadn't already invested a boat load of time into this one, I'd be all over it like a cheap suit.

Too late was the cry. It's already taken a hit and sustained a corner crack. Fortunatly I've a 50mm tucked away for a rainy day. Just can't bring myself to fit it and alter the cars aesthetic. Maybe a job for this week perhaps. Might even look at repairing the damage at the same time. Adam, you should be on stage... ...Sweeping up ! Give us a bell when you land back. You doing some work on the Corrado when you're back ?

Hi Alan Nice to meet you the other day and hope you enjoy the wheels. I guess any rubber components that are original will be past their best. Engine mounts included. I would have thought there would be movement in the gearstick to indicate mount wear ? If you've replaced all the other rubbers, you could say it would make sense to swap the ARB ones as well. Are the springs model correct ? Perhaps something else to check ? Let us know how you get on.

It's something I should have bought a long time ago if I'm honest. Just being able to put the bikes up there will be a great help.

Started setting the car up for summer family use recently. Making sure it's mechanically spot on etc. After the comedian on Edition 38 asked £130 for an OE roof rack, I thought it would be another twelve months before I found another (reasonably priced). Wasn't only looking just for an OE model. I'd priced the Thule set up at about £70. Which considering the fit and quality wasn't that bad. As luck would have it, an OE one popped up on a certain online auction site at the weekend. It was more money than I wanted to pay, so I threw in what I considered a fair price, and it was duly accepted. As luck would have it, the owner was in this neck of the woods this weekend. So this morning, I made the short journey to Warrington to collect the rack. Turns out the owner has had three Corrados in the past. The last one racking up 300k ! By his own admission, he only sold the Corrado as he considered himself too old to be crawling around under a car. Just been out and given it a test fit. There's little illustration stickers underneath to aid installation. I've also taken the locks out as they needed a repair. But it's still secure with just the five mm allen bolts. I know they're not everyones cup of tea. But be sure that it's not for gaining scene points. Ladders and camping equipment is this racks destiny.

Sorry Andy, I didn't explain myself properly. Do you think that the majority of potential owners consider it "too good" for their use ? Seeing that most buyers of Corrados, do so as their main car. And that they would rather have something less perfect. For fear of it being damaged or too much up keep. Or perhaps I'm over analyzing the situation. Still the best Corrado for sale at the moment. Anyway, another day and what looks like new wheels. Do tell !

Do you think prospective buyers are intimidated by it's condition ?

Personally I'd only change it if it needs it. You may not notice a difference yet, but that may change once the weather grows colder.

If the cars never had it done, may I suggest having the car machine polished first. The difference this can make is alarming. Then keep on top of it with a good car shampoo (turtlewax is good), using the two bucket method and a lambswool mitt. Dry off with a microfibre. If the car needs it, I'll run over it with some Harley wax. Even on the wheels. If not, then I use Auto glym quick detail spray. It may be worth getting a clay bar for when it gets warmer and tar is getting splatted on the lower half of the car. AG quick detail can be used with a clay bar as lube. What I've found using the above, is that dirt/water doesn't stick to the car as easily. And the next time I wash it, a quick blast with the hose pipe brings most of the filth off. Make sure you post up some before and after shots with whatever you decide. All the best, James.

Shine a light, how low do you want to go. Remember running 9 x 16 on the front of my first Corrado. Safe to say that it went through top mounts like a hungry beast. Drop me a message if you want to offload the mudflaps. All the best, James

Wow, talk about not messing about. straight in there with new wheels. And Recaros on a Storm is always nice to see. You going to ditch the mud flaps then ? (He says in the hope of being offered them to buy!!!) Either way, welcome to the forum.

Nothing worse than rattles and taps. I've lost count of the amount of times I've asked Jo to drive my car through the village with me crawling about the car whilst holding and pulling door cards / trim etc. I used to get bemused looks by the villagers. Now they just laugh. By the way, who refurbed your wheels ? -
I live in hope ! MPG is certainly not the cars "raison d'être". Merely a little family game we play, when on road trips of any distance. As I soon tire of driving at 56 mph. Although you've set me a new target now Kip.

After the debarcle I had with my screen, it's certainly worth getting a "known" fitter to install a screen. Tres bon !

Thanks for the kind comments chaps. Wasn't in a rush to put them on. There was still a lot of life in the Toyos and yes you're right Jake, they are a superb tyre but I'm made up now. Many thanks to Alan who took ownership of the Westwoods yesterday. Hope they give you years of pleasure and make sure you let us have a picture of them fitted. Took our time on the way home and set a new record:

There was a guy on Edition 38 selling one. £130 plus delivery was what he wanted. Or back on planet earth you can buy all the parts (S/H, new) that make up a Thule rack for about £70

You can get 17mm sockets with a nylon sleeve, to protect against wheel damage. Or do what I do and wrap a socket in masking tape. I've just fitted 195 45 16 tyres on a 7j and they look very good. I've also found that different tyre brands can alter the way the sidewall stretches (or doesn't). Wheels look great by the way.

Well, the past couple of days have been really productive. Started off on Sunday morning with the removal of the starter motor. What with there being bags of space under the bonnet, removal was pretty straight forward. Popped the old thing on the worktop for an inspection. The starter had the mis-fortune of suffering from the popular complaint of fizzing a little on the over run. The shaft and gear was caked in dust and dry as Dubai. A wafting of grease and a swift replacement (had a football match fifteen minutes later) and when prompted into life the fizz was no more. Hopefully it'll stay that way. It has done so far. For the past few months I've been running with the ABS light on. Not by choice I might add. Simply that when I went to plug vag com in a while back, I had the bad luck of putting the lap top down whilst the scan took place. Closing the lid with a pen on the keys. The colour drained out of it quicker than a Wiganers face, when it was recently announced that 20% was being added to the price of a pie. Had to go the long way round in the end. Broke out the multimeter and tested the resistance on the sensors. They all read the same, with the exception of the rear left. Decided to plump for an "ebay special" in the end. £20 delivered. On the day that my drive resembled a scene from the Wizard of Oz I plumped for installation. Much swearing ensued as first the ABS bolt rounded, then followed by scraped knuckles as the caliper bolts were less than co-operative. Once removed, it was almost instantly noticeable that the cable had been caught between body and rear subframe. Squashing it to the gauge of a cigarette paper. Cleaned the entrance to the car with jenolite and Zinga to prevent further rust and guided the cable properly. Fired up the car and the ABS light gives me a wink, before shuffling off till the next time. Last but not at all least was the main event. The new shoes. The condition of them when they arrived into my ownership was not bad. The curbing on a couple of them wasn't great. But for the purpose of the car, it would have been live-able, if not acceptable. Because I'm running the car on a budget, I decided to opt for the "home brew" equivalent of wheel refinishing. Two cans of Mercedes Benz "Brilliant Silver" and three cans of clear lacquer. I'm very happy with the result. It's not "factory", but neither was the cost. And to be honest, the finish matches the rest of the cars finish: "Fair to middling". Ordered up a set of Kumho KH31 tyres (Have KU31 on the VR6 and am very happy with them) from Camskill (awesome prices and customer service by the way) on Friday and had them stretched over this morning. Finally finished up at about six-ish. Ready to slip into the warmer surroundings of the indoors. Soaked my aching bones (really must pack in Sunday league) in the bath with a cold beer and Nick Drake "Pink Moon" wafting from the turntable. And that's where we are as of now. The 15" Westwoods will be changing hands to their new home in the morning. Ready for a new life in the Lake district. Just need a John Deere badge to replace the VW roundall now !
