  1. Im in the north-east near middlesbrough. With the dash covers removed theres just a hole cut into the dash. I cant even remember how the old holders went in, are they just a push fit? Would it be a case of just cutting a piece of MDF and push fitting it into the dash. I saw someone had actually cut into the original tweeter cover and mounted their new tweeter into it which i though looked pretty cool. Looks like it might be tricky stuff to cut though?
  2. Is there anyone at all that can help me out with these please? or know someone that might be able to?
  3. like an idiot i got rid of the original tweeters and bases so am now left with just a hole ill either have to make some new mounts or if anyone has any second hand ones?
  4. Thanks for that, i had a look online a decided to go for a set of Infinity Kappa 50.7CS components, 2 way mid bass and tweeters. im not sure how the tweeters will fit yet but im sure ill get them in somehow. I havent been dissappointed with any off the other infinity speakers i have heard so hopefully these should be nice too.
  5. Hi there can anyone recommend a good set of front component speakers that fit straight into the orginal door and dash mounts. My budget is about 100 - 150. 2 way would suffice as i have a sub in the boot.
  6. Hello there mate :) if you decide to go ahead and need any help just give me a shout and ill gladly help where i can. I paid just under 200 quid for my rebuild kit. This included all but one bearing, oil seals, bolts, apex strips and a few different greases. I could have gotten hold of all the bearings and oil seals, bolts etc from local companies, the only thing i wasnt sure of (although i havent looked into it yet)was the apex strips. I imagine i could probably save money again by buying these things seperately but at the time i just wanted the complete kit there and then. The teflon apex strips are the most expensive part of the kit too so id be interested to know if anyone can source this stuff from anyware. Even getting a kit from the specialists took some jiggery pokery and a few said they wernt prepared to sell it, just take my charger off me and do it themselves for a premium. I have clocked up 200 miles now :). I have also changed the timing belt, serpentine belt, PAS belt and given the engine a thorough servicing and it has really brought it back to life as it had been sat for a few years in a garage.
  7. After finally tracking down a g lader rebuild kit i ripped mine to pieces to see what was going on inside. Everything looked pretty well but i couldent be sure when it had been rebuilt last and decided to do it myself. It came off the car with a bit of a fight and i ended up removing the bracket bolted to the engine with it. I had been looking around for some info on rebuilding it without much luck until i stumbled across a guide which stated that it was not intended as a diy guide, it was useful but i realised that a few things had been kept up the rebuilders sleeve so to speak which is fair enough as thats their livlihood and they dont want everyone doing it themselves i guess. With some heat and a bit of bashing (carefull of course) the charger was in pieces and all seals and all but one bearing was removed. I decided to get it shot blasted and powder coated. The bearing left in the casing could not be accessed from behind and reqires some form of puller to remove it I was assured by the shot blast guy that he could protect the bearing and it would be ok. I also stressed how important it was that he got no powder coating on any of the sealing faces of the charger as this would render it useless. A few days later back i went and sure enough there was grit in the bearing and powder coating on the sealing faces. I took it away after being reassured that the coating was .6 of a micron thick (what a joke lol). I got the griity bearing out and relaced with a new one and flushed the oilways clear and removed all traces of shot. I fitted all the other bearings and oil seals along with new apex strips and gave it a bit of grease on the sealing faces. I had ordered an rsr outlet kit along with a new oil pressure line and fittings which were all fitted up along with a new bigger timing belt. Feeling pleased that it was back together i was still expecting the worst with the powder coating on the sealing faces. I was so keen to get it running again i took the chance that it would pull together ok. I cranked the engine with no spark to get the oil flowing through it and then fired it up. Took it for a spin and sure enough no boost. Today i have whipped it back off, removed all traces of powder coating off the sealing faces, regreased and fitted it back up, took it for a spin about 9 ish and sure enough large dollops of boost and that lovely growl are back. I have kept below 4000 rpm and will do so for around the 250 mile mark which was recommended. Big smile on my face as the car pulled like a train in every gear and sounded lovely. It came off and went back on so much quicker the second time around albeit things wernt quite as siezed. I dont really see where all the fear of doing it yourself comes from, so long as you take your time and catalogue what went where and understand why, its not very complicated, just works with close tolerances. I had read a lot of peoples posts telling others to steer clear of this job and send it to the professionals. Whilst i agree they do provide a quality service id say have a go yourself if you have confidence working on your car. Although i spoke to some very helpfull people when i contacted these specialists i got the impression they though i was meddling in some black magic lol Anyway thats my story and im glad i had a go, another early start tomorrow as i have about 200 miles left before some serious boosting action lol. Have many other people rebuilt their charger? Would be interested to hear their stories. Bad time of year to be doing this though, im still defrosting now lol
  8. Thanks for that, didnt even need a hammer in the end. I realised that by holding the bracket as forward as possible on its pivot its far easier to get in on. Just pushed on :) and theres me ringing vw to get a price for the special tool lol was meant to ring back but no need now. Im sure it would have been funny.
  9. Can anyone tell me what i can use to do this on a G60 engine? I know your meant to use a special tool which i dont have. I have a 10" G clamp which doesnt seem big enough, do i need a bigger g clamp? If so what size and where do people attach it to compress the damper, any help appreciated.

Hello everyone, im in the process of removing my supercharger from my corrado. Unfortunately as i was removing the plastic cowling on the outlet side one of the lugs snapped. Is it possible to buy new ones or does anyone have a spare? It looks to me like it might affect the airtight seal near the o ring so dont want to take any chances, any help appreciated, cheers.
  11. Hello there, just wondering if anyone would hazard a guess as to what my corrado is worth. The car is a 1991 G60 model on a H plate. Dragon green (is that the name of the green colour??), 135,000 miles backed up by full VW service history up until around 2002 when the car was pretty much unused and garaged. Dark cloth interior in excellent condition, all electrics and switches working as they should including spoiler and light tilt motors, engine just had major service including all belts and oil change, filters etc. Supercharger just been fully rebuilt with new bearings and seals and running spot on with no noise smoke rattles etc. Everything is original and unmodified. BBS wheels are in excellent condition with good quality tyres all round, exhaust in good condition etc. MOT and TAX. Bodywork is mint, no rust or dents and overall the car looks immaculate. Can anyone give me a rough figure as to what i should expect back? Any help appreciated. Also how easy could i expect to sell the car at the minute? Are they easy to sell? I will be selling up when my mk1 is finished.
  12. Thanks for the reply. I was pretty sure matrix was ok as i had hot air just before flushing cooling system so must have been an airlock. I disconnected the matrix pipe and blew through it, got water coming out of the block. Filled the pipe with water, reconnected, then disconnected the top hose and filled the system from there. Still no hot air but all it took was a little blip on the throttle and hey presto hot air. I imagine the water pump is not as effective as it was but thats all it took to get water flowing through the matrix again. The water temp is reading around 90 degrees before the fan kicks in for a short while so im happy with that for now. Next job is major service and rebuild charger.
  13. Im in the process of flushing out the cooling system on my 1991 G60 as there was a lot of oil in the expansion bottle and the water temp gauge was running cool (never getting above 75 degrees). As usual i noticed another problem, a leak on the plastic water pipe junction on end of engine block (gearbox side) so i changed this for a new one. I refilled the system and another leak emerged, this time on the plastic junction on the front of the engine which has connections from the water pump and from the rad top hose, part number KKP-6 037 121 133 A has anyone any idea if this part is available and how much i should expect to pay for it? With the cooling system refilled it seemed that there was an airlock as the level was rising and there was no heat from the heater. Does anyone know of a good way of riding most of the air from the system? Any help appreciated.
  14. Hello there, i`m just about to give my G60 motor a major service, flush the cooling system and overhaul my charger so am in need of a manual asap. I tried halfords then found out that there is no haynes manual available, i dont want to fork out 70 quid for bentley manual just yet and dont have time to wait for royal mail to deliver one of ebay. Can anyone help me out with a PDF manual just to see me through for now please?
  15. So does anyone know if repair panels are available for the corrado? I am in need of a n/s arch repair panel and possibly a n/s sill. I have tried my local panel supplier who doesnt think anything is available?
  16. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a haynes manual for my 1992 G60 please? Have tried halfords with no luck.
  17. Even if your pressure is normal i would say its a good idea to drop the sump and clean the pick up thats in there and give the sump a thorough clean out.
  18. What a lovely car to drive this corrado g60 is! I have only owned it for a few days, got it taxed and have been addicted to driving it. I love the low down torque and the way you dont need to thrash the pants off it to really get moving. Its been laid up for a while, the last owner was 75 and his wife told him to buy something more sensible i think, he had a tear in his eye when i drove off the poor fella. Its been well looked after but neglected recently due to his ill health. I have an engine service kit with all of the belts but am still trying to source a charger rebuild kit which is proving more difficult than i thought it would. Looks like i might have to get it from germany. Anyway i noticed that there was some mayonaisse in the coolant expansion bottle and feared the worst thinking cylinder head gasket. I mentioned it to my local vw parts guy who said it wont be the head gasket but the oil cooler that sits under the filter which was a relief. He said flush the cooling system a few times, run the car and see if its still there. What are the chances of it being the cylinder head? Is it physically possible for oil to get into the cooling system anywhere other than the oil cooler? He seemed certain the head gasket would be fine and the oil cooler would be the culprit.
  19. Hi there, having some problems sourcing a rebuild kit for my supercharger. The garages and tuning shops i have tried either dont service them anymore due to the 20V turbo or service them but are refusing to sell a rebuild kit to allow me to do it myself. Surely on a site like this there are people who carry out their rebuilds themselves and dont line the pockets of these companies to do work which the competent diy`er can do? If so can you please advise me on where i can purchase the full rebuild kit from. Starting to get a bit worried that i have bought the wrong car now :( if i have to pay someone else to do work i could do myself. Any help appreciated.
  20. Well i bought it. The interior is immaculate, all electrics and MFA in perfect working order. Sunroof works spot on. Tyres and exhaust good (slight blow). Few minor dents and the guy i bought it off had unfortunately tried to `touch up` areas of paintwork which has spoilt it in places. Some rust on n/s arch and sill but looks treatable. Other thing is charger has not been rebuilt and it has done 134,000 miles!. I took it steady back but opened it up a few times and it still performs well and i can hear it working so i`m hopeing a rebuild will be all it needs. BBS wheels are immaculate, inner wings front and rear solid and underneath looks good. Just need to service engine and charger then i`ll probably get a bit of paint on it. Just hope the charger is fixable, but like i said it seems to boost fine so cant be that bad surely?. Is it possible to buy a service kit for the charger as i would like to do this myself provided any specialist tools required for the job are available as well as the kit. I`m also going to do the cam belt and service the engine. Is there anything else worthwhile doing while at it? Cheers.
  21. Thanks, i have had a good look through the buyers guide so am well armed. Just unsure about engine varients. Are there different varients of the G60? I`m sure a while back someone mentioned a couple of engine codes to me? I wouldent want to buy this to find i had the older less powerfull version of the G60 or anything?
  22. Hello there, i am going to see a 1992 H plate corrado on wednesday. Been told that it has full VW service history up until around 2002. Its been sorned but has MOT until may next year. It has the G60 engine, cloth interior, done around 135,000 miles. Paintwork is in need of attention but its solid with no rust, and the interior is good. Just wondering what i should be looking out for as i dont know much about these cars. Also what sort of ball park price would someone put on this? I know its hard to say buy just a rough idea. The car is green, has electric sun and wind, spoiler electric etc. Any advice on what to look out for appreciated.
  23. Hi there, thanks for the replies. At the moment my mk1 is in a bit of a sorry state, sat in my garage at home stripped and sporting some bad workmanship from the previous garage it was in. I have booked it into a top bodyshop but i have to wait 6 months before they can even begin work on it! In the meantime the plan is to assemble all the parts im going to need for an engine upgrade, incuding all running gear. I already have an FK konigsport suspension kit which should be up to the job. I really fancy the idea of a supercharged G60 motor, the only things that would put me off are the reliability, availablity of parts, and how useable the power is going to be sat in a mk1 golf? If anyone can comment on any of these things i would appreciate it. Does anyone know or own a mk1 G60? What would be the main drawbacks of such a conversion? I appreciate that the engines are getting on a bit (although ive no idea when they stopped producing them) and i dont have a clue if there are many variants of this engine? Anyway thats too many questions already, any advice appreciated.
  24. Hello everyone, first things first i dont own a corrado but would very much like to put a G60 engine into my mk1 golf gti, shocking i know lol. I thought this would be a good place to seek advice on the availability of the G60 engines, what sort of price i can expect to pay for one etc. I dont know much about the Corrado except that they look good and the G60 engine is supposed to be sweet as a nut and very tuneable (am i right so far?). My golf has had some poor workmanship done to it recently (bodywork) which will have to be redone so its going into another garage for a professional restoration. The down side to this is the 6 months waiting list before the garage can even begin to work on my car. On the upside, this will give me time to assemble all the parts i need for the conversion and to save up to get the job done properly. If anyone can offer any help on this topic it would be greatly appreciated, as a mk1 golf fan i can appreciate why you guys like the corrado and hope that this feeling is reciprocated and that you do not feel like i`m some sort of cannibal lol. Look forward to hearing back from you, thanks.
