Can anybody tell me how to identify a 9A block, what numbers should be stamped on it etc. I have been offered an engine out of a 2.0L 16V corrado but he doesnt know what it is.
-
Thanks again. What cars came with the 9a engine fitted?
-
Thanks for the reply, externally are the blocks different or is everything just the same such as coolant inlets/outlets etc. Also are the blocks dimensionally the same or taller/shorter?. I know the plate is a poor substitute for the correct pistons although this combination does work. Im still thinking about which direction to go but it i think the sensible thing to do (and very expensive) is to build a bullet proof block which will give me more displacement. I just need to know that i can still use my bahn brenner integration kit with it. Cheers. Does anyone know of a 9a engine/block for sale?

Can anyone tell me how these two engines differ apart from in cc. Im in the process of gathering parts for a mk1 16V G60 engine build and have a rebuilt KR block although the block is standard and id have to use a spacer plate to reduce the compression ratio. After discussions with somebody who has been building these engines for a number of years my advice for best results is to go for a 9a block and ABF crank. I have already bough a bahn brenner integration kit which i know works with the KR block. Im just hopeing that the blocks are identical externally which will allow me to use the kit. Any advice appreciated, cheers.

Thanks for that, ill use the search feature in future though, cheers.

Hi there, i have the chance of buying a front wing for my early shape corrado. Are there any differences between early and late shape corrado wings? cheers.

I have removed the old sill from the car, my problem is splitting an old sill from the floor pan and inner sill to leave me with just the outer sill.
-
Has anyone replaced a sill on their corrado or known someone that has? Im just wondering how people went about it as obviously there are no new sills available only part sills and rear quarters which are ridiculously expensive. I know i need to remove the spot welds but getting at them along the lower edge where it meets the floor and inner sill looks very difficult. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for the information. I dont think there is an issue with this kit being used in a mk1 golf gti as the brake servo is on the passenger side, this means the alternator can be relocated without any problems. There may be other problems i dont know about though and thanks for the contacts, ill definately give them a shout for some more info. I love the sound of the g lader and its still quite a rare engine conversion in a mk1 golf compared to 20 VT or 16V NA, just need to keep collecting parts and information. Im hopeing to have it on the road for next summer, i just need to concentrate on my corrado at the moment which is needing welding and paint.
-
I most certainly will. Im still collecting the parts together at the moment. I have the car ready for the engine almost and i have a rebuilt KR block and a reconditioned KR head ready to be reassembled. All standard internals which i believe will be upto the job. I still need a charger, intercooler, ECU and loom, inlet manifold, gearbox and diff! so quite a way to go yet. On the upside i have managed to get hold of one of the Bahn Brenner integration kits whilst they did another limited run of them. I have been considering stand alone engine management but i think for now ill see what i can get out of the G60 ECU. It seems there is quite an art to setting these engines up and from what i have learnt its a bit of a battle getting the G60 ECU set-up spot on. I need to work out which injectors ill be using along with lots of other things. I just wanted to be sure that any G60 corrado ECU would be suitable for me.
-
Ok thanks for the information. Its for a 16V G60 engine. Thats a lot of variants, i was just wondering if any would be more suited to what im doing but i guess if thay can all be chipped and mapped then it probably doesnt matter which i go for.
-
Thanks for that, are they all the same then?

Hi there, im on the look out for an ECU and engine bay wiring loom for a Corrado G60 engine. Ill be using it in my mk1 golf gti 16V G60. I have noticed a few on ebay recently, one is very cheap and the other expensive and they both are supposed to be corrado g60 ecu`s. I also noticed that both have a different code. I know there is a bosch code and a vw code but niether matches. My question is are there more than one type of g60 ecu? does it matter which one i go for? Can anyone tell me what code numbers a corrado g60 ecu should have? thanks.

Im looking for someone to weld a sill, inner arch and outer arch on my corrado, would have to be mobile as the car is in bits in the garage. I have access to all of the equipment needed so thats not a problem, just need a good welder who can come and do it. Im in the north-east, about 20 miles from middlesbrough in a town called thirsk if anyone can help?.
-
I wont be cutting the inner sill out mate, just the outer. Ill have to seperate the inner and outer sills on the panels i have been provided though. I was thinking about bracing the door aperture just in case although the car will be supported evenly down that side.
-
Has anybody welded a new sill or arch onto their corrado here? I have received my replacement panels from a donor shell. I have the full sill, including inner sill and floor lip, all the way back to the rear outer and inner arch, which is currently all in one piece. My first job will be to trim it down to exactly what i need. The outer and inner arch are bonded together so i need to know if its going to be feasible to replace these panels without seperating them first. I know the inner arch has a seam near its outer edge so this would be where i removed the old metal and attempt to put the new piece in here. Then id have to trim the outer arches to match one another and put the whole piece in. Can anybody see a problem with doing it this way? Im pretty sure ill have to replace the whole sill as the rear third is rotten and there is a nasty rust scab towards the front, it wouldnt really make sense to repair it now i have a full sill to replace it with. Ill have to seperate the inner sill and floor lip from the outer sill, quite a lot of work but this is my plan so far. Any help, tips or advice much appreciated.
-
Supercharged have you done this job before or do you know exactly what is involved? would appreciate some pointers, cheers.
-
Sorry for the late response and thanks for the reply. Im in the north-east in a place called thirsk, about 20 miles from York. Im away with work at the moment so i cant post any pictures up at the moment. The rear third of the n/s sill is rotten, along with the outer and inner arch. I have sourced some replacement panels but it looks like its going to be quite a job to trim them down to exactly what i need. I was hopeing other members might have tackled something similar themselves. Its probably best left to somebody who does it for a living, i dont know anyone who works in a bodyshop either but im quite keen to have a go. I suppose im best off cleaning it all up and seeing how bad things are first then posting some pictures up. I guess the sills are spot welded along the door closure seem?.
-
My corrado is in need of a new sill and rear arch, has anyone here replaced a sill or arch themselves?, if so im just looking for some advice for the best way to go about it as i have limited experience of this type of work. I know its probably left to the professionals but im keen to have a go, and i have the time, space and equipment to do it. If anyone has carried out this kind of work id be interested to hear from them, especially if there is any kind of photographic record of it, thanks.

Maybe someone can stump up some facts and figures to show the improvements after a run on the dyno or something?

Hi there, im in the process of repairing my old headlights as the glass was badly cracked. After opening them up and giving them a light rub i have removed the very thin reflective coating from some areas. Is there anything available to restore this or has anyone repaired a similar problem?.

Hi there, i have been to euro car parts for a set of HT leads and i have been given the wrong type three times! im running out of patience with them now. They have ordered another set which wont arrive until tomorrow and i then have to use more time and petrol going over to pick them up. Can anyone tell me where to get the right set from? or give me a code and a make so i cant go wrong again? thanks in advance.
-
Hi there, just had my corrado G60 to the MOT station and got a list as long as my leg of problems. One of them is the headlights are shot, cracked and letting in water etc. I have a pair of euro spec lights that came with the cae when it was imported fron germany. Does anyone know if i could get it through its retest by fitting these and putting a pair of beam correctors on them. The second thing is where can i get a set of beam correctors from as everywhere i have tried obviously only sells the correctors for travelling abroad. Any help appreciated.
-
Hi there, can anyone tell me what bore hose i need for this? I know its exactly 1M long, cheers.
-
Ok lol, when did they switch over to the later spec?
