  1. small update then.. took ages to get the piston ring lands cleaned up but now done, new rings in, new con rod bearings in, cleaned up sump and baffle plate, pistons back in,oil pump in, sump and plate bolted down, flywheel cleaned up and re-fitted... head completely dissassembled ready for porting, will then be vaporblasted to clean it up as its pretty dirty. coming along nicely now, already looks so much better then it did when it came out..cant wait to drive it again..
  2. cheers andy, the engine was the next thing on the list, although it was gd i wanted it to be as good as the rest of the car. im really excited to see the way it drives once its done, i know i could of easily put a differnt engine in but i wanted to keep it all original so that if i ever do sell it i can put it back to standard. shame you sold the valver, v nice vr tho..
  3. all bearings are original equipment tom, didnt want to use anything else.. all german parts :D
  4. busy nite last nite, rehoned the block..got the shells and crank in plus torqued down. main seal replaced and fitted to block, crankshaft seal replaced and fitted to block. various other gaskets replaced and fitted. gearbox given another coat of paint, power steering pump and bracket painted, alternator brackets tidied up by hand with scotchbrite. also got all the bush's, springs and bolts to renew the gear change (tower and shifter), new bonnet catch, screws for rad cover panel and think thats it for now. having a day off today but wil be back on it tomorrow...
  5. so had a little think about it and from what various people have said with regards to the amount of effort im going to i thought i may aswell bung a new set of injectors in aswell.... :D
  6. found another pic from the day before stonor...
  7. Got new seals me thinks already....or maybe not...cant remember..I'm replacing the 42mm on my 9a with the 50mm from the kr and one of the sleeves is cracked :( Will phone stealers tomorrow. Thanks! J you will have to change all the sleeves in the 50ml mani for the 9a one's.... :)
  8. its been a few late nights for sure... its not a show finish but am more then happy with the results considering its all been done from rattle cans :D
  9. im pretty confident it will last, parts were all cleaned properly in a parts cleaner, then cleaned up by hand. every part on the block has been cleaned and tidied up. the brackets got the same treatment and then i used a red oxide primer with rust protection and then given a few coats of black paint. the gearbox was steam cleaned, then tidied up by hand. i used white hammerite for the box as ive had good results with it before. the paint etc doesnt have to last a lifetime, the original held up for 138k and would of gone on for more, ill be happy to see half that usage out of the new finish, if we had time then we would of sand blasted and powdercoated all the parts necessary as this is the approach charlie takes with all of his work.. ill get some pictures up later of his finished beams, gearboxes etc... im really looking forward to seeing it all back together, will hopefully have the engine bay cleaned up on sat..
  10. its two pieces, still available from the dealer... kr and 9a ones are differnt. i think one part of the sleeve were £5-6 each plus vat and the smaller part were £2-3 each plus the vat..
  11. now have all the rings so hopefully will start rebuilding tonite
  12. few more pics of the box and crank.. im happy with the finish on the brackets etc although they arent perect/brand new they are clean and tidy and thats how i want the whole engine bay to be, no show queen...just clean and tidy like the rest of the car. feel like were making good progress now, rest of the rings will be here tomorrow so charlie will rehone the block and then we can start re-assembling the block. gd times... thats it for now, hopefully some more updates 2moro nite.. Andy
  13. another nite spent on the car, had a productive one. managed to give the brackets another coat, clean the pistons and crankshaft up and start painting the gearbox... were noit quite sure on the white paint for the gearbox but will finish it and see how it looks.....
  14. So had another evening spent on the car last nite.managed to finally get the inlet off of the head after some rounded bolt action, started painting various engine and gearbox brackets and got the gearbox back after a little steam clean...pics to follow..
  15. i got the 4 branch from tom (toad) were not sure entirely what brand it is but it looks v v similar to a tsr, but could also be a miltek or magnex?! ill let you know if we have any probs with it, need to heat wrap it and change the flange on it first..
  16. gotta be honest dave i hadnt really thought too much about the injectors, ive bought all new seals for them and i expect ill have them cleaned... though now youve said it i may have a look at work tomorrow and see if we can get a set..
  17. so thats where it stands a the moment, the shells were in fantastic condition so a good sign the engine has been looked after prior to my ownership. all the brackets will be given a quick lick of paint along with the gearbox, just to freshen them up. the inlet mani has been sent to the powdercoaters and a couple of other bits will follow suit. im just keen to get the engine bay tidy as ive finished the interior now and am more then happy with the exterior. will be cracking on this week and will update accordingly... i must give a shout to my friend charlie who owns and runs Project One (aircooled specialist, restorations to handmade beams, narrowed etc, engine builds) who has allowed me to take up some of his workshop space and get stuck in with work plus phil and chaz for thier help too. i wouldnt be able to do all this on my own in such a short amount of time. still loads to do including cleaning the bay, joints, head work etc etc...
  18. so ive been busy of late with a lot of help from friends and Charlie at Project One, a crankshaft seal let go on the way back from stonor so its been using a bit of oil recently. thought i may aswell replace a few bits whilst sorting the dead crank seal....Parts to be replaced as follows: Head gasket set Bottom end gasket set valve stem oil seal's Valves relapped Port and Polish head 4 Branch Manifold Decat KR Cams Cam Chain 50ml Inlet Manifold Block Rehoned Piston Rings Main bearings Con Rod bearings Thermostat and seal Dipstick guide tube Cam belt and Tensioner Alloy rad fan Cowling Front Engine mount Gearbox mount Rear Engine mount Inner CV Joints and boots Outer CV Joints and boots Tie Rods Tie Rod ends Steering rack boots Ball Joints Polybush Kit (front arms, re top mounts, arb links, steering rack mount, rear axle bush's) Clutch and release bearing Header tank hose Coolant Oil and filter PSteering fluid Brake fluid Gearbox oil Am pretty sure there's more that ive missed but ill add them as and when i remember. a lot of these parts arent worn out but the car has now done 138k and seeing as i had decided to take the engine out i thought i may aswell re-do all the running gear and make it drive like new again. First thing to do was strip the engine down and get it out... every component was covered in oil and dirt so next was a cleaning mission whilst stripping it down for the replacement gasket's and parts this took an age. the block was then painted ready for the re-assemble...engine mounts were then replaced and thats as far as weve got to date. not bad for weekends work... Excuse the iphone pics..
  19. that would of been a price for an oe fuel pump dude, deffinately not a fuel filter as they are pennies!
  20. stop me if im wrong but 106 as a running temp on a valver seems a bit high to me?! i did 260 miles in my valver last weekend and got stuck in some pretty grotty traffic on the m25.. never saw above 106 in traffic and ran at 96-98 at a constant 85mph.. around town it never gets above 98. mind you i dont drive it a lot at all... i use fuchs titan xtr 10w40 in mine, basically any good quality 10w40 is what you want to be using in a valver.. just my 2p's worth of course
  21. you should do, theres a bracket in the n/s of the boot.. does your rear bench not have the zip up compartment on the upright part? i ditched my original interior from my 92 valver ages ago so cant remember... all early valvers had the zip up compartment... iirc its only the changeover valvers (ie late exterior, early interior, flat rear bench) that had the mount in the boot..
  22. lol, been thinking about that... but seriously, my mirror glass' are pretty good but im sure in the future getting hold of the mirrors will be a big problem, surely if we got maybe 50 or so members we could approach a company and get some made??
  23. no not the ups, differnt car..
  24. i love this car, however.... i personally think it looked better when it was brown with the abt splits....i appreciate its changed a lot since then and i cant believe im saying that as i own a white c...
