looking for a little sleuth type detective work on this one. A few months ago i had a custom exhaust fitted, immidiatly afterwards when i pulled away hard in 1st, or booted it hard in 2nd/3rd i got some really nasty vibrations from the front end. of course i took it back for them to have a look at, and they fiddled a bit with the downpipe from the exhaust manifold and reduced it a bit, but they said really, there should be plenty of clearence (about an inch) between the pipe and whatevers under it (steering rack?) and to get my engine mounts checked out, which i did, and was told theres a 'bit' of play but nothing to worry about, definalty not an inch's worth of movement. I know the front of the car lifts when you accelerate, could that be a factor too?

yeah thats how mine is to, if its a warm day, it rattles a bit for a few seconds then quietens down, if its cold though it rattles for ages. Someone on here said its something to do with things expanding as they warm up, and so stopping rattling.

can someone with ETKA tell me the part numbers for the engine mounts on a 1990 1.8 16v please? thanks.

i've got a solution to your NOS problem....get some LPG stickers and whack them on the cylider! "yes dear, its a gas conversion....."

i mentioned to the guy that did my exhaust that i had rattly tappets and he suggested i 'flush' the engine, and that it normally helps. Is he talking about do-coking? i've heard mixed things about that, in that in older cars it can dis-lodge stuff thats blocking little holes/cracks in things and make the engine run worse. any advice?

Theres a guide on the site for things to look for when buying a corrado, do a search for 'checklist' (i think) and it should come up. as for convincing your folks, its a VW and they're known to go forever, but if you're looking at a g60 you want to make sure the chargers been looked after properly otherwise it could get expensive. In fact that goes for the whole car, keep in mind its getting on for 14 years old and parts arent cheap when you need them! One good way to bring them round to the idea would be to let them drive it....although you might find they buy it for themselves and you loose out  whats the insurance like for a 16y/o on a g60? i take it you're in the states?

mine does the same mate, in my case its the engine moving and making the downpipe off the exhaust hit some metal crossbar thing that goes between the 2 front wheels. Have you had the full exhaust changed? need to get my engine mounts looked at ASAP...

you have to lower your sights slightly driving a 16v, it took me ages to get the idea of thrashing boxers and TT's out of my head, its just not going to happen! But i found satisfaction in being able to compete with sales reps in their Mundano's and Vectra's, they're quite a competative bunch when they want to be! oh and dipping the clutch and revving as you go past Nova's is good fun 8)

plus the fact my car probably cost the same as all the mods he's done to his! I like your idea kev, i should maybe keep a copy of the Sun handy so i can pretend i'm reading it as they go past!

I had an annoying scooby driver nearly go into the back of me last night because he wanted to jump the queue for the slip road off a dual carrage way, big queue on the inside lane, nothing on the outside except me minding my own business when all of a sudden i got a mirror full of impreza and a glaring driver! i booted it as well as i can in a 1.8, and he obviously took that as some sort of challenge when all i was trying to do was preserve my bodywork! eventually we got to a point in the road where he could overtake me, and he blatted up along side, drop a gear and shot off. Ok fair enough his cars faster, sounds amazing and looked really smart, but why feel the need to drive like a first class @rse when theres another 'performace' car about? i just wished i had a vr6 at that point to educate him ;) (think i just contradicted my own point there... ) rant rant rant....

hmm, need a few more details i think please Jason... -
(edited - its not the rubber its the metal bracket) my rear passenger side hanger for the backbox has snapped in half :S anyone got a part number for the replacement? its a 1990 1.8. I've heard there are smaller/shorter ones availible but as i've got a custom sytem i'd have thought they'd designed it around the hangers that were on already so am i right in thinking it'd be best to go for the same again?

if they'll fit mine i'll have a set, 1990 1.8 16v...? -
cars like ']['H3R4POR's example give nova's a bad name, cant say as i'm a major fan of them, but i do like the idea of a totally striped out, calibra turbo engine'd, nova track car. sure not as special as vr6 track beast, but it'd be alot of cheap fun! (puts on fire-proof overalls and prepares for a damn good roasting ;))

unfortuantly, myrter that i am, i'm working this weekend. Paying particular attention to tips 1, 4 and 6: http://www.bbc.co.uk/motoring/ontheroad/maintenance/cutcosts.shtml 1. Do 50 on the motorway….at least now I know who to blame for the old duffers getting in everyones way. 4. Don’t drive short distances. So I should do 30 laps of the car park everyday when I come to work just to make the trip longer? 6. That’s just plain silly

a little bit too much batman styling for my tastes! In some ways it reminds me of the lambo countash, just so OTT and in your face. alot of car for the money though, thats exactly what i paid for my G plater. As a show car or a bit of a toy it'd be great fun! i cant imagine there's many with that full kit on!

depends on your budget really, a performace air filter and exhaust would give you a little bit more grunt, and a much nicer sound! i thnk they're probably the first things people do. After that theres things you can do by adding the 2.0 16v bottom end which is supposed to improve things, then theres cams, flywheels, porting and polishing, head skimming.... no end of things! if you dont want to move away from standard much, i would suggest the airfiler and a subtle exhaust.

i've had this when i turn the power on, i just always assumed it was the amp coming on and whacking a bit of power into the speakers, i've not worried about it really, I think even though you might not have any music playing, the amp still feeds power to the speakers, so i've a feeling its just the speakers reacting to this sudden power input. Never had it skipping tracks though, again it could be the speakers reacting sudden jumps in power. does it happen reguardless of how high you have the gain on the amp? you could try turning that down a bit and just turning your headunit up further when you want it loud. dont quote me on this cos i might be totally wrong, everyone feel free to correct me!

i like the RX8 alot, and i'd really hate to see it go the way of the TT. Far too many on the road to make them 'special' and the image dragged down for the average driver by super-trendy people owning them. The interior looks fantastic, much like the TT's did when they first came out, and those doors are soooo cool. theres a couple round here, and IMO they look the nuts in black or dark blue. I'd be tempted, but really i dont think they're going to have that exclusivity factor that the C, and especially a storm, has.
