this has probably been covered a million and six times by now, but.... (prepare for complete lack of understanding of the correct tech terms!) having real problems starting in the current very cold climate, engine seems to 'crank' ok, as in it sounds like its trying to start, but wont actually fire up until the third or fourth try. I've read a few posts like this were people have suggested checking the 5th injector and the HT leads, but ihave no clue what they are, where to look or how to check them! would these be expensive to replace? is it worth taking it to a garage and asking them to have a check? its a 1.8 16v if that makes any difference?

IIRC, isnt mpeg4 a broadcast format? if thats the case it seems unlikely there will be support for it in home user products for a while!
-
I wouldnt have thought so, but I would think it'd be fairly easy to convert from AAC to standard mp3, though obviously you'll loose some quality. just got a pioneer mp3 player myself, go for it mate, you wont regret it even if it wont play your AAC's!

they look alot like fox evo 6's slighty different, maybe they're an older version?

mine was just like that when i first got it. I had it serviced and asked them to check the whole car over, fix minor things but just tell me anything major they found. didnt find anything major, but they did replace the PS belt which sorted it out a treat.

just adding my 2p, obviously you want to listen to the speakers before you buy them, but keep in mind many ICE stores run their demo speakers off amps or the top end hedunits, if you can, try and find someone with the speakers you're interested in, in their car. you'll get a much better idea of how they'll sound. (plus the acoustics will be different, i suppose you could stand in the shop with you back to them and about 4ft away.... ) I dumped the orginal 6x4's and put some 6x9's in the rear shelf, you get more bass which is good if you're not going for a sub! lots of people recomend you just upgrade the fronts, forget the rears and get a sub/amp as its better for sound staging but we cant all afford that right away! Its taken me 6 months to get my ICE how i wanted it, slowly buying better bits, to me though thats half the fun!

I've started to notice some rattly type noises when i cold start my C, and looking at the CCGB site it says noisy tappets can be an expensive repair! it seems to queit down after a bit, maybe i'm just paranoid! what other symptoms would i find with this sort of problem and is it really that expensive a repair job?

I know what you mean about freezing things, my knob's like a icecube in the mornings! (ho ho ho)

in a corrado?? surely not!

While i was driving home last night i started thinking about some of the good points of winter driving. Most noticable is the abundance of very cold air, my C was going like a train! downside to this is that because of the crappy weather you cant take full advantage of it without ending up in a hedge! other pro's i thought of included office carpark 'drifting' in the snow, which i was doing yesterday. Again this has a downside, namly heading towards the boss's jag sideways with no way of stopping

Mine stopped working for a bit, seemed to be getting power to it as it was still showing one 'bar' things that it uses to make up the digits. I was told to disconnect one of the battery connections and tap it on the terminal 7 times...and fugger me if that didnt fix it! no idea why or how, maybe it needs 7 pulse's to reset itself? anyway, its worth a try!

mine averages about 98 once it warms up, I've seen it just above 100 but TBH i dont check it that often!

just an quick update, got the ck3000 and tried to fit it yesterday, got it wired up ok (very easy!) but my phone doesnt 'see' it as a new bluetooth device! after checking parrots website and expansis.com's forums, it seems some units fail after a few weeks. Looks like i might have a dud unit  going to send it back and get the sony system, not as many features but at least it'll work.

Quick hello and North East Corrado's
chrishill replied to Nugget yellow 16v's topic in General Car Chat
I'm one! Saw a yellow C going over the tyne bridge a month or two ago, might have been you mate! mines a red G plate 16v, give us a wave if you spot me! -
front or rear? apparently the rear calipers are prone to seizing, mine does it too if i've had the handbreak on for a while. - quick fix: grease the break disk's! :D

but what about my referb?

bit of a complex one :D My first car was a nissan micra (the shame!) and i got one years free insurance, which left me with 1yr NCD. I sold that after a year and bought an astra SXI again with a years free insurance. I crashed the astra after owning it for around 11 months :( but becuase i was on a free policy, the claim i made didnt effect my previous NCD. So it wasnt protected in the normal sense of the term, it was just easier to explain it that way!
-
4 years no claims is 60% discount though isnt it?
-
24, 1 years no claims and wrote my last car off 6 months ago (protected no claims on last policy) only been driving for 3 years....it was a bit extra because i got them to add an exhaust to the policy when i took it out as i knew it'd need replacing
-
its a 1990 1.8 16v. apparently any modifications i do carry a surcharge of 40% of the premium, as as mines £1250 TPFT already, they wanted £400 for alloys and lowering! i paid a lump sum for the cover so i'll have to wait for next year now :( still they cant argue with a bit of cleaning to the engine!
-
i'd expect you just whip out the fogs and put a cold air feed down to the back of the hole from the airbox. might need to fabricate a...funnel? or something! just to make sure all the air gets into the cold air feed. you could always mesh over the holes. TBH though I'd keep an eye open for some replacement fogs in the for sale section, IMO the front end looses something without them
-
ok, after planning lowering and 17's, then talking with my insurance company, i've had to change my plans. I think 'money well spent' would be getting the engine overhauled, basically a good cleaning out inside and all the niggly little bits (5th injector/ISV problems?) sorted out. Thing is i have no idea how much something like that would cost, if it'd do much good, and what sort of things i should be asking to be done! any advice?? oh and i cant do ANYTHING that would up the power :( so no pullys, cams, porting, gas flowing or anything else even a bit fun.
-
very nice! lovely colour, thats not standard is it? 8) get those 17's on!
-
thanks, its just theres a guy on edition38 selling some alloys off his mk2 golf, but isnt sure of the ET :) just wondering if they fit his ok, would they fit my C? sounds like they might!

Thats good to hear Riki, i like simple things! I was thinking about setting the switch into one of the blanks underneith the fog/heater switches, but i'll have to wait and see what its like when the kit arrives and see if its do-able.
