you're always going to get horror stories no matter what car/engine you look at, for example theres stories about people with lotus elise/mgf/tf's having catastrophic head gasket failures. The main point of worry with the VR6 where alot of people are concerned are the timing chains, theres plenty of threads explaining the finer points of the problem if you use the search. Other than that they seem pretty solid, as long as they havn't been thrashed and have been well looked after. The guy who runs the forum, Andi, has a vr6 with over 200k on the clock, i dont think hes ever had a rebuild and its still running fine. Obviously a 10 year old car is going to benefit from an engine overhall, but that applies to any car! -
kev's right, theres obviously going to be media spin on this, and they're not looking to introduce it for 10 years... buy which time I'm sure Mr Darling wont be in control anymore along with many other changes... I dont understand why they would announce this and get peoples blood boiling if theres a slim-to-none chance it'll actually happen... unless they're trying to distract us from something else thats happening *puts tin-foil hat on*
-
its got massive knock on effects too, if businesses have to foot the bill for their lorries doing mega-miles those costs are going to get passed on to consumers, making everything more expensive... i just cant see what they're thinking other than 'cha ching!'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/4075490.stm Saw this on the news the other day, obviously we dont know all the facts yet but my first thoughts are that its a very bad idea. I cant really see how this is going to help congestion, if its going to cost you £1 a mile to use motorways people are going to take to B roads and driving through towns... empty motorways and massivly congested b roads dont sound too good to me. They've spent millions if not billions creating the road networks and now they dont want us to use them? yeah... good idea Darling! The carrot on a stick in this is the reduced fuel tax and no road tax, but i'm guessing they're not going to take 'that' much off fuel really, and if the average road user does 12,000 miles a year being charged a 2p per mile minimum as suggested, they'll end up paying £240 a year! how much is your road tax now... £180? also if all cars are fitted with satalite tracking, how long will it be before they start using that to catch people speeding?

I 'think' the VR ones are oil filled and the mk2 diesel ones are all rubber...could be wrong?
-
dont even think hes got a problem, 10mph is their top speed isnt it?

I can recomend the vibratechnics engine mount, fitted one to my VR and it made a whole world of difference! looking at around £120 IIRC unless you can get one second hand as I did. Some people would say the OE one will do you fine, depends what you want from it and how knackered the current one is. Uprated ones reportedly transmit more vibration from the engine, although I have to say mines still perfectly refined.

looks like you're trying to give it a 'special' hug in that pic mate!

Want to hear what a NA 300bhp R32 sounds like in a tunnel?
chrishill replied to biggerbigben's topic in General Car Chat
sums it up nicely i think! -
close enough to 200bhp I think Stuart... but getting the best out of it depends on the driver, if he was stupid enough to overtake on a blind bend then hes not really that skilled is he? While theres never any excuse for racing on public roads, there are times when its safer to drive fast (note I said safer, not safe) and in these conditions I think the vast majority of people would 'have a little fun' to some degree, after all the corrado is renound for its handling ability and obviously they've all got more poke than your average shopping trolly fiesta, if you didn't intend to use those features at some time or other why buy the car? I've had plenty of muppets trying it on in busy conditions but I dont bite, let them plough into the back of a lorry, i wont be involved, however if its quiet and I feel there is little risk of my ending up doing something I'll regret I do rise to the bait and I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy it.

cant say i've really noticed it, then again the roads around here are so s**t your wheels go all over the place anyway!
-
that looks evil! I like it! I couldnt have it as my own but purely for the mad-max looks I think its great. I remember seeing a matt black and metalic blue 2 tone 206cc many moons ago when i used to buy fastcar (the shame!) and i'm sure i've seen it on a mk4 before... at least you'd never have to wax it!

quote from AmD's email... to be fair they have said they'll find out what they con provided I can give them the old reg numbers, cant say fairer than that!
-
still yet to confirm this, AmD have no record of the reg number on file, but its had a fair few owners over the years so its possible it had a private reg. I've got to get in touch with the DVLA and find out. Apparently theres little point giving them the serial number as they do everything by registration plate, which i thought was a little odd!
-
which with VW's prices doesnt cause too many problems!
-
ditto, looks lovely. is it the 2.9 VR lump or the 2.8?
-
thats some skills! cant be easy controling something that big and heavy with jelly suspension!

sebrings were standard on all the 1.8 16v's, have a look in the gallery quite a few people have them. they were also used on the golf rallye i think? £200 for a £100 set of wheels is extortion...how can they possibly justify that? off the top of my head: 1.8 16v - sebrings g60 - sebrings breifly then BBS vr6 - speedlines although the storms had different ones which i cant remember the name of... 2.0 16v - estorils I think the 'jet' special edition had different rims too, but i dont remember exactly
-
i'd expect a vr6 to have problems with a well driven CTR, so I'd say either the guy couldnt drive it or he was just keeping up with you. Having said that I'd have thought a vr6 would have struggled with a clio sport or and s3 and i've dusted both...so whos to say?
-
IIRC the g60's came with sebrings for a very short period, but i dont think they'd be quite what you're looking for. have you checked with your insurance company to see how much alloys would add to your policy? mine only put £40 on top of what I was already paying...

someones got too much time on their hands! lol! should be white really though
