I have done a search in this section and can't find anything that quite answers what I need, so the question is..... Are there any aftermarket cams that increase the power and torque across the range and not just increase power at the top end? I know of ones available from Schrick, Kent and Piper but what do I need to look for? I'm not quite sure what 268/270/272 actually means. Current engine spec and power run graph after a rolling road tune; 2ltr 16v with; Kr inlet and 9a outlet cams, ported and rebuilt head, smoothed, ported and gasket matched 50mm inlet manifold, knife edged and ported throttle body, cold air feed into airbox with K+N filter, 14mm silicon ht leads, JE forged pistons (slightly up on compression 11.2 : 1) , lightened and balanced flywheel, solid front and poly rear engine mounts, Heat wrapped 4 branch into 2 1/4" 2 box system (with de-cat) LGIM0440.jpg[/attachment:xcckammx] As you can see it is currently pushing 180bhp with 145 lb/ft , Would aftermarket cams be worth it or would they just raise it at the top end? Also would a vernier cam pulley be of any use or are they only good when converting to megasquirt or the like? I am keen to see if I can make 200bhp but want to keep the original ignition and injection system , is this possible or will I have to rev it to 9k? Any help/ideas are appreciated. Sam. P.S car is also semi stripped/lightened to about 1035kg so big torque not needed.

It does pick up very quickly now compared to when it was relatively standard and feels a smooth acceleration too, no sudden jerks or stutters. Granted it doesn't have the VR roar but it's good enough for me 8)

Since starting to drive again at the beggining of july I thought I would treat myself to a new exhaust system as I have never been fully happy with the fit and quality of my powerflow system. Afer being recommended a place called JP exhausts in Macclesfield I gave them a call and booked in the C' for a new 'un. My old set up was a 2" bore but was flattened over the rear beam to stop it knocking, JP managed to create a 2 1/4" bore and not flatten it and I was very impressed with the quality. :luvlove: :notworthy: I kept an oval tail pipe albeit 1/2" bigger all round but it fits the bumper cutout a lot better now. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfzaust.jpg[/attachment:3708dtxg] zaust 2.jpg[/attachment:3708dtxg] With the all the excitement of my new 'zaust and my inlet manifold mods over the winter :nuts: I thought I would get an updated rolling road (previous power 165bhp @ stealth) . A local place to me that had been recommended by a couple of mates was Noble Motorsport in Chesterfield. After booking it in and having a power run I was a bit downhearted when it returned 162bhp :cry: On the upside they said that they noticed it was running quite lean and suggested a tune up and adjustment of the fueling and ignition advance saying that it would increase the power slightly. The next week I took it back and they carried out the tune up session, when I returned I was over the moon when they told me that it was now running 179.3bhp and 144.9lb/ft . :clap: Good figures for a 9a I think, does anyone else on here have a valver with similar figures? If so I would be interested to compare specs. Below is the power/torque graph for your perusal ;

Hi Vicki, car looked awesome yesterday, really looks spot on with the interior and a few new underbonnet goodies, where did you get that cool power steering bottle from? Shame i missed you, i was wandering round all day , spoke to quicky1980 though, seems a good chap. Always good to put a face to a name. 8)

Can anyone shed light on whether or not they are suitable for my valver? I know where to buy one I just don't want to waste £100 on one that will drain itself in a couple of days.
-
No it isn't , you are looking at lbs not kgs!! it is 9kgs lighter
-
In my quest for lightness I thought a lightweight battery would be a great idea as it seems to be a cheap way of saving 10+ kgs . Having no knowledge of electrics whatsoever I turn to the people of the forum to ask what should be looking for. I have seen this http://shop.edoperformance.co.uk/trb150 ... 7f77ecc12f and wondered whether it ( or similar) would do the trick, I use my car 2-3 times a week but sometimes it can be left for up to 2 weeks.

Cheers for the best wishes guys, I was descending the Honister pass in the lake district during the Fred Whitton sportive and over cooked a corner, skidded and slammed into a dry stone wall! It was an ambulance job and I was taken to Whitehaven hospital. Then the next day to Macc hosp for an op to have my arm and finger pinned and plated. Good news is I managed to wash the C' on Sat eve  so feel better for that at least.
-
Quick update, I will be out of action for a couple of months because of breaking my left arm and finger badly in a bike crash :pale: on the 9th May. I can't drive obviously but also can't even tinker or even wash the C' , it's driving me mad already especially with this good weather :bad-words: I am looking forward to Tatton though as this should be soon after I can drive again.

No, I used Cobra subframes and re-drilled them to fit the Recaro steel sidemounts. They are a bit crudely made tbh but at least they can't be seen when the seats are on them.
-
I have Recaro profi spg's with Willans harnesses and adapted Cobra subframes. The subframes have a threaded hole for attaching the seatbelt holster clip, I used this to put an eye bolt in which the harness clips into. What subframes are you using?

Lovin' the old mk2 , what was the engine spec? any secret tips,( I have a 9a rado with 165bhp). -
It is one of Crazy Daves set ups from DG Autotech. Very good and an easy swap. Very helpful Guy.
-
It is Samco, listed to fit a mk2 16v golf, they don't list one for the c. Fits perfect though, just wondering whether or not to order up some matching lengths to fit the heater pipes.

During these last few snow bound months I have been busy with some engine bay jobs, mainly cosmetic but while I was at it I thought I would improve the breathing, here goes with quite a few pictures; Removed the inlet manifold which was polished and replaced it with a rather tasty chrome one bought off the 'bay but also from someone on here. Comparison shots of old and new; It arrived with the inside nicely cleaned out and the tubular bores smoothed. That gave me some ideas..... Next I cleaned up the throttle body exterior and interior and set about porting and knife edging the butterflies After that i took off the lower inlet manifold and set about cleaning it up. I removed the injector housings which i didn't even know were brass ('cos they were so black) and shined them up, then spent about 5hrs (not all in one go!) smoothing, porting and gasket matching the inside of the tubes. Then I gave it a nice coating of wrinkle black heat resistant paint. Whilst I had the paint on the go I cleaned up and painted the rocker cover too. I then re-assembled using plenty of stainless dome nuts, washers and cap head bolts and some nice new gaskets in the process. Also in the pics is a lovely polished alloy header tank and power steering tank bought from andy665, and one of crazy daves slimline fan set ups.Cheers Andy and Dave Finally one or two more chrome parts to feast your eyes on, shifter weight and cable bracket. bonnet pins (on a super duper carbon bonnet bought from jetta16v, cheers Neal.) bonnet latch. Phew! that's enough for the time being, it's exhausting this corrado ownership 8)

Yes it is just a piece of thin hardboard with black acoustic carpet glued on with spray glue. I just measured up and cut it with a band saw. I have been busy with some engine bay and interior jobs, will post them up later today.
-
brilliant! thanks guys, :salute: will get on to them again.
-
yeah, the rocker cover looks exaclty like the one in the pic but the gasket in the pic will not fit as it has the lugs on. so are you saying that i might have a mk3 golf cover on a 9a engine?
-
can anyone help please? I have a 2ltr 16v 9a (m reg/dec '94) and am after a new rocker cover gasket. my rocker cover is the original one and has flat edge faces that sit against the gasket, the gasket from vw has rubber tabs that locate into hollow sections on the cover and doesn't fit mine. they say that is the only one available, does anyone know the part number i do need? :help:
