Hi - my girlfriend has just bought a 2001 Polo E which has nothing in the way of "extras" including central locking. I am planning on fitting an after market remote control kit but they all seem to be 4 door kits - are their 5 door kits available or can a 4 door set up be adapted?

I may be slightly biased as I live on Skye but honestly the roads anywhere around the North West of Scotland could have been used when the Corrado was being designed! And for some extra fun - get onto the single track roads!!!!

Hi I was attempting to remove the battery pack from my Clifford Concept 50 alarm with a view to replacing as per the instructions found on the forum. But I managed to break the connecting wire where it is soldered to the PCB - I am not confident that I can re-attach so was wondering if there are any direct replacement sirens e.g. there is a genuine Clifford 514C replacement siren on eBay at the moment for £26. I have emailed the seller to see if they can tell me if it is suitable but wondered if anyone here might have an answer for me?

Hi - any idea what the postage for the rear cards might be?
-
I have a Clifford (Concept 50) fitted to mine which is 20 years old(fitted by original owner) and has only just given me a problem now in that I believe the battery in the siren needs replacing but everything else still works fine including remote boot opening, remote "headlights on", remote window closure, valet mode and other functions I don't even use! If I had to replace I would go for Clifford again.

New Discs & Pads (Brembo) Fitted - Now New Calipers?
ray_vr6 replied to ray_vr6's topic in Drivetrain
Yep - I would indeed replace both if it turns out that the OS one is seizing. -
Hi Just fitted new Brembo discs and pads up front on my 1990 16v (£56 delivered from Aceparts on ebay - great service)but concerned now that my front right caliper is a problem as the pads there were down to the metal while the NS still had a good bit of life left. Also there was excessive heat in evidence after general use. I am hoping that after removing and greasing up the slider pins the problem may go away. Just in case it doesn't anyone got any recomendations on replacement caliper - this looks a good buy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190971346761?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Any thoughts much appreciated

Finally got round to changing the gearbox oil (Redline MT90). There is no record in the service log or fairly comprehensive paper work of it having ever been done so after 24 years I guess it probably needed it! The process was straightforward enough and the gear change is defo better - there was a bit of a crunch going into 1st and reverse when cold and that has gone - just need to fit one of Dave's short shift when I can afford it!

Thanks Guys - sorry the post was a bit of a ramble! The issue was with the fact I fitted Weitec spring lifters to my rear Eibach springs - I didn't like the overly low look at the back of the car the springs gave. This meant that at full extension the spring cap sat a few inches above the support washer/spring clip. I wasn't sure if I should compress the spring to bring it down and into contact. Thanks again for your help

I had to replace the spring clip on my Bilstein B4 rear shock and wondered if when you reassemble the unit do do tighten the nut above the top mount until the spring cap is tight against the clip and its clip ie till no 7 up against 9/21

Thanks - intend to post up (most!) of the stuff I have done over the last 5 years of ownership. Just today changed the stalks and cowle for the later type

They say there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow - sometimes you need one to keep a 1990 16v on the road especially up here on Skye!

Hi I am having to replace the O snap ring (circlip) as it "disappeared" which allowed the ring and so consequently the spring top cap to travel the length of the shock (bilstein) This then resulted in the shock pushing through the top mounting! I tried to replace the snap ring with two flat external circlips but as soon as I lowered the car back off the jack it did the same! Has anyone suffered the same and is there a specific type of snap ring I should be sourcing?

Many Thanks Chris - received the stalks and cowle today

Thanks everyone - I live 250 miles from my nearest TPS so this is as good a deal as I can hope for!

Getting ready to do an oil change and found this offer on eBay - the packaging looks different to the Syntra I remember. Is it OK? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251414169315?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Excellent - I wasn't looking for a full set of stalks as I already have the indicator side but may take the set off you as well as the cowle if the price is right! PM sent
-
OK - so there is no visible damage when the cowle is fitted?
-
Thanks guys - what is the extent of the damage Chris?

Hi Thinking of doing the early to late stalk upgrade - does anyone have the late style wheel/ignition cowle they are thinking of selling?

Hi I was driving home the other day and my stereo powered off - then I noticed that the rear demister which was also on had cut out. When I got home checked both fuses and the demister 20 amp had blown but the radio fuse looked OK. Replaced the 20 amp and everything was fine. As an an experiment I pulled out the demister fuse again and sure enough the stereo would not power on! How and why would they be linked? - any thoughts?
