Firstly sorry for the lack of technical knowledge in this post..... My VR has been a bit rough at idle recently so investigated over the weekend. The source of the problem seems to be a hose which runs from the top of the air filter box into a small suction pipe below the air intake, which had come to rest on part of the engine and melted, so needs to replacing. Presumably I can replace with a standard run of hose ? Can anyone tell me what size I need before I buy ? (Or probably easier for me.....is there a part number I can order through my local VW garage? Embarassingly I don't even know what this does so can't explain over the phone and don't really want to drive the car to the garage until this is sorted) Thanks for your help..........

I just love those rims........ Beautiful car mate !

I had the 'rough' drive with the bosch plugs, which admittedly were at least 18months old - changed for the 'standard' ones and like mrbeige the difference was astounding.......

Lol, sound....thanks mate :salute:

Mmm, no I haven't will look now. Probably too late tho, as am booked in to the garage to have a powerflow exhaust fitted this Wednesday. Cheers anyway........

Hi, wondered if anyone has a photo of an OE tailpipe for a VR they could post? Also if anyone knows the correct size of the oval ? I'm just about to order a new exhaust and want to make sure I get it looking as OE as possible.................. Cheers

Just been quoted £369 fitted for the Longlife exhaust, and can even pick the sound apparently........really interested to hear if anyone has had a longlife before.........
-
I have the same problem, as had an advisory following my MOT....am personally looking at a Milltek. Will need to pay a garage to fit as I have neither the expertise or space to do it myself. I had a powerflow on my clio 172, and was a bit too noisy imo - plus it fell off when the mounting welds failed. The guy at the garage recommended a 'Longlife' exhaust....anyone heard of or used?? Keep us updated about which one you end up choosing......

Cheap website - discount on the dunlops when you buy 4, but doesn't look like they do toyos in that size. Will shop around a bit but best price I've seen.......cheers again !

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Cheers pal :salute:
-
My guess is its because they're cheaper - the guy I bought the car from put the tyres on shortly before I bought from him. I like these dunlops though so will try and get the same or Toyos I think. Another q....is my speedo reading correctly with the 55's on??
-
Having dragged my VR through the MOT the only advisory was the tread on all tyres are 2mm, so need to replace. Just noticed the dunlops on my speedys are 205/55/15 - should i be replacing with 205/50 ????

A stunning karmann ghia followed out of bristol into bath today at 6pm ish, turned off at the globe roundabout. Not a C i know but close enough.........................

Surely as you weren't liable you can just ask for the £4k (or whatever value you agree) as a lump sum payment and get them to sort out the scrappage of the car?? Seems like they're asking you to take their risk on board. Also as its their liability can't you force them to repair your car to the condition pre-crash regardless of cost? My gfs going through the same at the moment, as some idiot in a lorry smashed her ka into the central reservation of a dual carriageway last week....then drove off. Shes claiming on her own insurance (the police couldn't be bothered to trace the other driver) and they're just giving her the payment of the agreed value which we're negotiating at the moment. Car insurers are a bunch of sneaky xxxx's if you ask me. Hope your car wasn't a dub anyway !

Was waiting at the bus stop on Bath Rd in Bristol, bottom of the entrance to temple meads, at 6ish this evening thinking to myself I haven't seen a c in ages............then lo and behold an N reg standard VR in black rolls past. Think the number plate was N*** OBD, something like that. Anyone?

Vee W services in Bristol have just quoted me £500 parts & labour + VAT to change the chains & tensioners on my 93 k plate VR on 90k miles. Out of interest how much have the forum paid for this before I book it in? Thanks in advance...........

Is number 3 failure to launch? Ummm, my girlfriend forced me to watch it.......... -
Has the same problem on mine and this was the culprit - might be worth a go mate as is only a 2 minute job........
-
Theres a red VR in the 'cars for sale' thread at the moment which has black speedys - not my taste personally but do look quite smart on a white C........

Vauxhall Meriva I had as a hire car....rubbish in town and even worse on the motorway. The turquoise green / blue colour made it look like I was borrowing my mums car. Truly awful.

WD40 and a bit of elbow grease will get rid of the residual glue.....just about to do mine this afternoon.....
