  1. I experimented tonight with the idea of tube. I have added a couple more led's, bringing the total to 14! and used the tube as a difusser. Much better light spread and something i'm happy to put in the car now. What do ya think?
  2. that could be worth experimenting with Mr Johnson......i'll have a go tonight.
  3. the light is not even, but not bad.......well its 200% better than the original lighting!!! I think Zarman has it cracked with the EL sheet, but the LED's cost less than £2 and the EL sheet and inverter would have been nearer £40, so i'm gonna stick with the LED's for a bit. Maybe Zarman could do a kit to go with his dial's???? The LED's in the rotary controls work very well, it's just lighting up the rings evenly that is difficult. On the Subject of a "How To", I think the pictures above speak a thousand words. The LED's are Maplin 12V SB's, used some copper bar as busbars and support for the LED's, this replaced the optic spider. And a bit of glue gun action. Not much more to tell.
  4. Its an estate, but I think about 96, might give it a go and report back
  5. Spotted on the M27 L*** MAV VR6 in dark grey Met. Looking rather high on its standard suspension. Anyone here
  6. Yeah the early frames have the same part number as the corrado one on etka, but this later one has a new prefix to the part number. Just wondered if anyone had used the later sunroof.
  7. Been working on my red heater controls, here's some pics of the progess.
  8. Been to a scrapy today to pick a couple of small bits up and noticed they had an estate passat 96ish vintage (ie the face lift model with the grill) with a complete sunroof. Had a a look on etka and the pre and post facelift models have different part numbers for the sunroof. I wondered if anyone has fitted this later sunroof to a C? Pic of passat for ref of year.
  9. http://www.southcoastwheels.co.uk/ right by the central station in Southampton.
  10. Spot on with the info there s....daddy. Took me 3 months to get hold of a set. Just hope I never bend one!
  11. I ordered some of these last week as the pound to dollar is so good. Just over £70 including postage and a packet of cookies thrown in to munch on while installing! (Nice touch). Got them yesterday and they are nice. Well recommended.
  12. first pic looks like a supersprint decat pipe to me.......oh bugger!
  13. Changing to red in all the switches. Tried standard led's and superbright, super brights where to bright as can be seen in the first pic. They dont dim all the way down like the standard ones do. Looking nice.....
  14. Top job....would you believe I have just sat at my pc after taking my switch apart to pop some led's in. But have lost the spring under the round contact.....bugger! Would be interested in a pair for the future. Cheers Andy
  15. words of encouragement from me to 2cc. I know I didn't get quiet as deep as you in the engine bay....but my VR is lovely now with all the new cooling parts. Also fully recommend the MT90 gear oil if you are in that area. The stuff has made gear changing a pleasure. Second gear use to crunch now and again when driving hard, but no longer, even with a short shift. Keep going it will be worth it.
  16. Got a set of passat controls the other day from the scrapy...... while I'm fixing the controls thought I would start on changing all the dash lights to red, so got myself some red led's and will be sorting out the heater lighting over the weekend. Have taken the passat controls apart I was disappointed to see green light pipes for the knobs, but was driving the wifes Ibiza tonight and noticed the red heater controls.....ummmm! so whipped off the knobs and what should be hiding behind but red light pipes. Bingo!!!! Will post some pics of the finished controls when done. Do like the idea that Zarman is using, but that stuff is pretty expensive from RS, so going to try with LED's first
  17. just a wire holder, one of the gearbox bolts holds it on
  18. Mine has a couple of speed nuts holding it down at the bottom...... but mines a 7 litre version due to headlamp washers, so may not be the norm.
  19. Angle grinder with a wire brush head and a drimmel. The wire brush is the only way to attack spots like that, gets you back to solid metal in no time. Then just trimmed the edges back to make the hole a nice shape to plate. I'm glad I'm not Dr Mat, I would have slit my wrists a long time ago!!!!
  20. Afraid its not a drain point..... just my rather neat cutting back to solid metal! That area within the wheel arch just had less sealant than the rest of the surrounding seams. The area is current covered with duck tape until I have a spare afternoon to weld it up. Amazing what you can do with that stuff!!!
  21. do the VW mirrors come with the heater eliment?? As the drivers side had gone and I do miss it on these damp mornings.
  22. Hi All, While replacing the front abs sensor this weekend, I found a patch of bubblie rust in the inner wing. It looks to me like the sealing robots had not been as good as they normally are in this area of the inner wing. Once I started digging the hole became quite large and will need a patch welding in. So just a warning to keep a lookout in this area, as my car is rust free otherwise. This is what was hidding under the sealant. Cheers Andy
  23. holds up the under dash shelf, not sure which side
