From my experience id say they would look to write it off, as sad as it sounds, i had a tranny van hit me in the rear, moderate impact with not too much damage but the costs was £1200 and they valued it at £550!! (1991 1.8 150,000). From here you have a couple of options, negotiate on vaulation and try 2nd hand repair parts, (which keep the horrid CAT C/D marker away from the car) or take a payout on the negotiated valuation, keep the salvage and repair yourself, but then a marker of total loss will be against it. Quite a stressfull and annoying problem to be in considering its a none fault accident. Keep your cards close to your chest and come back on here for me help if needed. I work in motor claims / insurance so i deal with this kind of thing on a daily basis.

Alright fella. Im from Bolton but unfornunatly lost my C a few months back when it was written off. Staying away from them at the mo due to insurance hikes. Hope your VR is keeping you well. Where bouts in Bolton r u? -
Well its never been written off, says only 7 keepers, but its down as black now and previously green.
-
Definatly a scam, the last keeper change was back in 09/10. and its got a plate change against it which has also been on a unregistered car!! Lets she if "she" replies

Looks good mate, £1k for a VR is a steal. As long as its had the major's done

Got my last one from MIJ - All good, never had any issues. :notworthy:

Hi Mate Working in insurance i would say most damage to roof instantly make the car a write off, unless theres no dents and just paint work. the way the industry is if the costs are 70% of the vaule (that being from the glasses guide - who do not consider any mods, maintenence ect) then they will write it off. I would say buy a breaker and DIY it if you want to keep the "total loss" marker off the vehicle. Cheers

Good to know, thanks very much.

Didnt know it was that easy, thanks

Hi, as per the title, ive got limited access to the net at the momemt so i dont have time to look things up. i need new barings for the rear, ive heard people say some are really bad, but cant remember which ones and do the fronts have barings? Also need the part numbers for the temp senders and thermostat for a 1.8 16V 1991. And finally which pads and disks are the best buy? Thanks for looking, MOT time soon!!!

When mine packed in it was the ropes which pull through the motor which had jammed, its a possability, i just WD40'd it and gave it a yank and it came free.

Just for reference i bought a headlight loom from him in july, in honesty i mess him about a bit with sending the money but he was happy to wait. It did take bout 3 weeks after payment before i received but i got it and it looks fine. Although its not fitted yet.

Cant beleive my insurance renewal quote, i paid £700 last year, now they want £3k!!! utterly unbelievable. So i decided is it just the C or all are cars like this, so i got a quote on a 1998 1.0ltr Polo. Cheapest i got was £900!!! i paid £600 on my fiesta 2 years back. Something is going wrong here, and we can do nothing about it. :mad2:
-
Yep i did, £3K+ for a 23yr old, 3yrs n claims on a slightly modded 1.8 16V. Not for me thanks. Im paying £700 at the moment, been getting quotes for renewal at £1600. Not suprising some people cant get insurance and drive without. im temped myself.

OK will give that a try thanks, al let you know how i get on

Im topping it up quite often as i lose some water when releasing the pressure. When the light comes on and i look at my tank theres no water in there, as i release the cap it fills back up. i can see why the sensor is going off as theres nothing in the tank. or should it be this way when its hot. im not sure. Or as you say it could be leaking under the pressure.
-
Hi OK that i will do next time, but why would my light come on and the pressure need to be released every few day? Thanks David

Hello Guys I have a small prolem with my tank "hiding" water. Every 3 - 4 days the temp light comes on and untighten the cap "blue cap by the way" and slowly release the pressure, and as the pressure releases the tank fills its self back up?? It does need a minor top up once a week becasue some comes out of the top if i undo it to quickly. Hes anyone got any ideas why this could be happening? Not made any changes for a while so it can be an affect of changing something. I think the tank may have a crack in it somewhere of that could relate to it poss sucking in air instead of water?? Any ideas or theorys welcome. Thanks, Josh.

Haha, so true, ive always been told im too mature and sensible for my age, still like to act a prat but when finances come in to play i get a bit too serious, 23 in 2 days.

As much as it would kill me i still think the Leon is the way to go. With having a new house i have no time for my C anymore, its not been washed in 4 weeks. When i didnt have anything to do at weekends it got a weelky wash n polish. Ive taken care of it the best i can but without the time now its impossible. Plus the extra space will be a bonus.

Cheers again for the advise, that money saving expert seems very usefull and i will definalty be using that guide next time i do a quote. I got a quote last year on a VR and it was the same as a valver, £700 (22yrs, 2yrs NCB etc..) a few weeks later and it was back up to £2K. i sure the market and companies change price from month to month so im gonna keep my eyes out for cheap deals. If that fails i will get a VR and stump up the insurance premiums.
-
Haha, i soppose if i had a VRT it would be a different story, id give my house up 1st before that. im only in a valver which is definalty not reliable!
