lorry just drove into my C (GONING TO FIX HER!!)

In theory, the VR should be more expensive to run. However, my current 16v has approx the same fuel consumption as my 2 VRs, and I've spent way more in maintenance on the valver too... Wish I'd bought another VR in the first place- thought I was doing the sensible thing! -
Hardly any difference between the valvers tbh. You have to rev them both to get the best out of them, although this is definately more evident in the 1.8. Don't be put off by the 0-60mph speeds of the G60 and 16v- they are both hampered by the gearing- neither can get to 60mph in second. From a rolling start they're both quick, especially the G. That said, since fitting a KR cam, my 16v can hit 60mph in second. 2 litre is a nicer drive due to having more torque. Drop in a KR cam and you're looking at around 150bhp. Then get it gasflowed and mapped and you're looking at 160-170bhp. ps- this review has the 2.016v timed at 8.1 seconds to 60mph. I'd say that's pretty accurate

Just seen this :( Gutted for you. If it's a write off, you've always got the option of buying it back off your insurers really cheap. Then you can break it, make a few quid and get a VR with the insurance money and the money from breaking  -
Have a look here

Really like 'em. Much better in black- always thought they looked a little bit bling in just silver. Can get them here too, along with some nice smoked tails, OEM reflectors (+loads of OEM switches etc) and the new Inpro fogs/indicators.

Advice on lumpy, erratic 2.0 16v - being a bit crap again..

Cleaned mine recently in situ. Doesn't take too long- it was full of crap too, so defo worth doing. -
Get the emissions checked- just had a mare with mine!
-
Have a look here as they've got some on special offer

Alarms go out of date pretty quickly. I've got the same prob with mine, and nobody makes the fobs anymore, so I have to use the key and have the alarm off the whole time. Got a separate immobiliser though. Would like remote locking again though. Have a search on Google for replacements as there are quite a few places still stock old fobs etc. This looks worth a look.

That's crap, mate! Get new lenses- someone on here does them- not sure who though! -
Pretty sure it will- they list it as 89-93. Go and have a quick look at yours and see if it's the same.

Got a rad fan switch from AVS recently. Clicky
-
Goldie, thanks mate.

If it's still on standard suspension, get that sorted first. I've got Koni adjustables on mine, and they're great. Not too expensive either.
-
Cheers mate, quite a relief!

Is the Bosch one the same as the standard VW one? Is steel or ceramic better? Have heard that ceramic are better at reducing emissions, but the steel ones last longer. Steel ones seem to be quite a bit more expensive too :?
-
Jim, do you know if the GSF one is ceramic?
-
Depends on your budget. Charge or turbo it if you've got the dosh, but you'll also need to change the suspension, brakes etc to compliment the power hike.
-
There was a red one on the news last night- funnily enough they were talking about the new emissions law!
-
Had some MOT work done today and the guy at the garage said my C was just about the tidiest valver he'd worked on.
-
Thanks for your input, guys- much appreciated! Well, it's finally passed! :D Got a call from my garage today, and after replacing the lambda, it went to 0.30% CO. Rather than risk taking it back to the other test station, I just got them to put it through the rest of the test there and then, as it had already passed the emissions. The cat seems to be the main cause although it is overfuelling slightly. The pre-cat emissions are fine. Also the cat is a tiny, poor quality cheapo unit, that would be better off in a skip. At least now I can save up over the next year and buy a decent one and get the fuelling sorted. Adam, that sounds interesting- any chance you could scan the pics in?
-
Yeh, they've been really good- it's had 4 free re-tests, and they're gonna let me have one more. Just spoke to the garage where it's being sorted, and they've adjusted the CO, but it's still too high on fast idle. He also said the paper filter won't make much difference- he thinks it's prob the crappy after market cat, but he's trying the cheaper fixes first.

I know! Really irritating, but I suppose everything's electronic now and they'd be in huge trouble with VOSA if they got found out.
