i`m ordering some of the vw waxoyl and we`ll see how it compares to the original stuff...
-
So points deducted if there is no waxoil present....??? :norty: :norty:

Great stuff, looking forward to the results..

Don't know if Kip's referring to me but I have the very great privilege of being among the first to have these fitted at DG Towers. They went in as part of a head rebuild (it was going in anyway but then we found why it was I'd been losing small amounts of coolant!) and Dave and Graham are just finishing up tweaking the map etc. Expecting to go pick her up any day now and am like a kid waiting for Christmas. Jim was there on Saturday while the car did its initial roadtests. He was very complimentary about how it sounded and Dave was very pleased indeed on the 'phone to me about how it went with the new cams in. Roll on the next couple of days! I'll let you know what it's like to drive but given that the remapping of the ECU with an otherwise stock engine was startlingly good, the combination of a rebuilt head and another map to suit the cams should be superb. thats great and all but will you actually know actual figures and not just that it feels quicker/more responsive...? same goes for the remapping; i`d like to see how the graphs compare..?

Yeah that's what went through my mind when I saw them. We need a current user of 263s on an otherwise standard engine to do some back to back comparisons :D really need to rolling road the cars before and after to see overall figures, thinking about these myself but not a cheap upgrade when factoring in fitment and remap for only 25bhp gain..

@ Andy Clear light yellow Waxoyl on all underside faces and into internal hollow sections but appears to be little in the passenger cabin other than access to inner sills & door bottoms. Never seen photos of this part of the assembly process at VW. It appears it was done after paint but before fixtures & furnishing were installed. The VW stuff isn't the same "waxoyl" as waxoyl at Halfords though. VW's coating seems to be more solid, harder wax, even when it was new compared to the Finnigens Waxoyl. Engine Bay lower parts appear to have been covered with waxoyl but the upper parts ie. inner wings, engine and gearbox received a harder solid coating which I think is AKR-321-M15-4. The material in the engine bay appears to fit the description VW provide. Will be buying some shortly to see if it the correct material. Cures at 80'C apparently. Shouldn't be much of a problem with a VR6  The devil in waxoyl on the underbody is keeping it clean. Which is why I took mine off for concours. The underbody/wheel arches is pre-treated with a rubbery type compound which forms a deadening skin. It extends up the side sills, that ripple that can be seen. Its part number is ********* (Will update tonight when I get home). Comes in 1ltr tins. Repairs with it are quite easy. Brush on. Let it set and then over spray with the car's colour paint but not the lacquer for the underbody. Result is identical to factory. I think the wheel arches gain lacquer coat but haven't repair in any to look into it in detail. --- Thanks for that, need the rubbery compound for spot repairs underneath and plan to wax-oil parts of the engine bay and behind the bumper ect for future proofing.

On the debate of originality where does waxoil fit in all of this..../? where would it of been used and are people who are restoring there cars going to use it as part of there process...???
-
top top work :notworthy: how much was the kit...?
-
Not much done..!! snow stopped play... bits at powder coaters at least.
-
thats bodyshops for you..!!! they buff but can`t detail.. :x-mas: :x-mas:

Haven`t got bottom less pit of money and time is limited but just want to make the best of the car i can.. engine wise its just the block that has the usual 170k of use and grime/rust; suppose i can just clean/restore where possible and as time goes on maybe engine out as/when it needs a rebuild..?
-
This is what i`m trying to avoid, i know these jobs can drag on and dont want it off the road for ever..
-
Ok so took the front end off the car to paint the bumper and other bits.Started to clean down the engine but now wondering how far i go...? Options; 1. clean up best i can and put it all back together 2. take the engine out detail and put back together 3. take the engine out and detail plus do chains /rebuild ect..? As it stands..
-
170k not been done, runs sweet 8)

The different colour strip on the bonnet is probably high build primer due to stone chips ect its easy to use that to get a flat surface before the 2pac primer.. I can only imagine then the other bits of bodywork are being flatted back then maybe spot repairs and laquer the whole panel.. I`m learning all this at college now so interested in the process`s myself..
-
not far off full respray then..
-
Well done, an amazing amount of work in a short time... :notworthy:
-
All secure now..
-
Hopefully supporting the engine in someway first - you should really re-fit the bumper brackets if you're leaving it like that as the engine is currently supported by 2 M8 bolts! but i thought the front mount is onto the cross member and thats not been touched...? what holds that to the car then.../?

It was tucked away and while cleaning thought i`d removed it without realising..... 8)
