  1. Well Im halfway through swappng the rear axle and everything so haven't got to the front yet but will check in the footwell, cheers for the tip Cheers Mart
  2. Well time i updated my thread, have doen a few bits and pieces since i last time : heres few pics from after its 1st machine polish and wax : Next up the wheel bearing decide it had enough the same weekend i had to move house, yeah cheers rado  When i took it apart hub literally fell off, bearing was proper fecked : No photo's of it back together as didn't have time to piss about takin photo's next up other than an oil change and new plugs was my 1st mod on it.....A change of steering wheel, wasn't exactly planned but when the original one started melting in my hands had to get it changed, Picked up a momo champion locally Old one: Boss on: Momo on :D Feels and looks much better than OEM one IMO Next thing to get changed was the exhaust, it had started blowin from the weld on the middle box and the old one didn't look like it was gonna last much longer so ordered up a jetex stainless cat back system for it : Fitted: My dirty mug after crawlin underneath the beast for a couple of hours  Was a pretty good fit and really pleased with the sound of it, not too loud until you boot it and raise the revs and a nice bassy rumble rather than a chavvy fart! Few weeks later and started loosing a bit of water and could smell coolant inside the car, very small damp patch at back of centre console...bollox heater matrix on the way out, so out with the dash : Halfway there All out: Whats for dinner?......dashboard hhhmmmm my favourite  New matrix next to old one: Old one wasn't leaking to bad but think i got it just in time before it went completely and flooded me footwells. Went a bit mad and the OCd kicked in and cleaned all parts of the dashboard and the heater pipes inside and out, was 15 years worth of shit in there after all  All cleaned and back together: At the same time picked up some new ht leads from vw and fitted them: wouldn't normally go to vw for leads but thing the red just sets the bay off nicely and they will last longer: Thats pretty much it so far, have got Mot end of month and the rear axle bushes are fecked and so is one of the flexi brake hoses, copper hard lines don't looked great either so picked up another rear beam which i've derusted cleaned up and painted, just got to fit some new bushes, new pressure regulator, make up some hard lines and fit the goodridge hoses ive got, then swap it over, have some new abs rings to go in as these can be a pain not to break when takin the stub axle off and might stick some new rear wheels bearings in while im at it, will keep you up to date as things get done cheers mart
  3. Haha yeah a most people think i'm pretty nuts to passenger a sidecar on track but i love it and your right the g force is pretty strong, Fair play for giving it a go off road, think it can be just as physical tho off road as the track is nice and smooth not a rutted up field so while on track is faster ur not gettin bumped around anywhere near as much. Still, remember puttin my head up to look where the breakin point was on Snetterton's Back straight whilst doin 150-160 and nearly gettin ejected stright off the back by the force of the air goin over the fairing............ Now i just listen for the engine slowing   had forgotten about my thread, must update it as have done a few things lately. Hope to see your's in the flesh one day as it is truely awesome resto, love seeing no rust anywhere and everythig looking fresh and its pretty much the way i want to go with mine eventually although mine will have a few more custom touches Cheers Mart
  4. Cheers toad thats pretty much what i was thinkin and don't worry jon, not driving until its sorted. This weekend I'm swapping the rear axle for another restored one with new bushes, new pressure reg, bradied hoses and copper lines, rear bearings and ABS rings and braided hoses for the front, plus seals for the resovior so will bleed it all then, just wanted to check it was just bleedin needed and that i didn't need a new M/C before i get started Thanks for the speedy replies cheers mart
  5. hi Have been losing a little bit brake fluid from the resovior and noticed the seals between the resovior and master cylinder were weeping fluid but pedal had felt fine, so thought maybe this was the cause and ordered some new ones. On friday pedal went very spongy, and brakes were poor, checked the resovior and no fluid. Checked all hoses, pipes and connections and no sign of leaking so toppped it up, which took a few fills of the resovior as the level kept droppin, Pedal then felt ok again, so didn't bleed the system as like i said the seal between the resovior and M/C are weeping and think bleeding with eazibleed will just push it out of these seals On way back from work today pedal went very spongy again and handbrake light on dash came on. Checked resovior and no fluid, topped up but pedal feels slightly better but not at all great. When i press the pedal with the engine runnin it sounds like air behind the pedal. I'm Wonderin whether it just needs bleeding or if the M/C has gone or something has gone as its losing fluid somewhere??? Mart

  16. hi and welcome to the forum, indeed ur car would have been obd1 as were all corrado's, the golf had both obd1 and obd2 engine but these were all 2.8l's not 2.9's like the corrado, i don't no for certain but i would have though that u would need the enigine wiring loom from the obd2 engine as well as the ecu, can anyone confirm this?? if i were u i just get the headgasket sorted, and sell the other engine on, gotta be less hassle than swapping engines? cheers mart
  17. Finally sorted the pics off my other comp so here ya go :) Not the best pic of it fitted but will try and gets some shots next time im down at my mates and can put it up on their ramp cheers Mart
  18. Not sure on the difference between 2 n 3 box system performance wise bute i have the 2 box jetex and i thought it might be a bit louder than i wanted buts it still fairly quite until u boot it into the high revs but still has a nice tone to it and doesn't sounds to chavvy at all, will get the pics of it off my other comp later and post them up
  19. have had the jetex cat back system on for a couple of weeks now and love it, subtle on idle buts nice when u open it up, it also pops and burbles a bit on overrun :D will get some pics of the system soon mart

    New Paint

yep a bodyshop will usually mop the paint but polish is just an abrasive, basically its like super fine sandpaper and is just used to get rid of fine blemishes and for the finish of the paint, whereas as wax is to seal and protect the paint so like u said paint can still be curing for a while afterwards, so best to leave for some time but not sure how much baking speeds up this process of curing but best betr would be to get in touch with the guys who did the work
  21. U shouldn't need to rub them down 1st unless they're really scratched just get em polished and they come up smooth and polished
  22. bordeau pearl red vr6 i think goin along crownhill road in plymouth this afternoon, gave a flash and a wave got a wave back
