Ello mate, hows things? Cars looking sweet as mate, haven't had time to get on the forum much later so took a bit of reading to catch up, u've been busy! good work and nice to see u gettin more and more hands on with things!

The spray gun holders do make it easier and a little bit better to spray out of can, but i hate sprayin big areas with a can, u can get a decent finish if u can mop it afterwards but i hate havin no control over the paint and having to make about 6 passes to cover an area that requires one pass with a spray gun due to the pissy small fan pattern of a can. As for resparys being expensive in the uk, everythings fuckin expensive here! :censored: but you can go and get a car repsrayed for under a grand and to many people the job will be a good job, and they'll be happy with it, but some people want a a pukka job doin and to do a pukka job takes a LOT longer, uses more materials and a good quality paint can cost a fair bit, especially if u start gettin into non standard i.e flip/pearl paints etc.It all depends what u want, and for what purpose u you use the car, i'll be repsrayin mine soon but its still my daily at the moment so i aint gonna be taking windows out n forkin out for top of the range paints for one it aint worth it on a daily and 2 when it becomes my second car its gonna be down to a bare shell so will get the pukka paint job then

hey rob Haven't been on the forum much lately so missed the unveiling of the fresh paint, Looks sweet as mate, looks like they've done a top job, would love to see it in the flesh but up in the midlands these days but will be down south from time to time so will try n see the beast sum time, hopefully mine should be gettin full respray soon, just gotta find some time for the boss to let me do it in the booth at work. Lovin the new interior as well, looks nice n fresh. cheers Mart

Pretty much agree with the above, i do bodywork for a living and for a proper respray, between 2-3K is about right tho more towards 3 than 2! With bodyshops u pretty much get what u paid for, but not always tho, there are some real cowboys that will charge an arm n a leg for a quick filler repair, quick key up n a wet on wet blow over, so u need to pick the right shop, check out their previous work, if u can try to see some of their work thats at least 6 months old as most jobs look good when they're shiney n new but can looks crap in a couple of months, filler can sink n show the repair, poor prep can cause the paint to start peelin, etc whereas a good job will stand the test of time,

Sorted dude thanks, nice one  N/s tail light was single filament, swapped it about 4 months ago, was rushin to do it and musta picked up a single instead  :epicfail:

should be but u've just given me an idea, i never checked the n/s rear bulb to see if ti was the right one, will have a look n let u know , cheers

about 4 brake light bulbs in the last couple of weeks, but not before the fault was 1st noticed. has an uprated headlight loom that i got from soneone on here fitted but i disconnected it and put the original plugs back into the headlight and n/s sidelight still came on so don't think it a problem with the uprated loom

Master cylinder is easy to swap, gettin hold of one might be a lot harder if its the ABS one, had to replace mine on the vr about a year ago and and could not find a pattern part one, loads of places told me they had one but kept supplyin me with a non abs one, i.e the one with 4 outlets, the ABS one only has 2, in the end went to VW and they're was only 4 left in the country and i was told they were goin to be obsolete when they had gone. It is just undo the two brake lines and the two bolts, swap over the part then bleed the whole system, as far as i remember

hi all Have a problem could do with some help with please, When i press the brake pedal my passenger side sidelight comes on, also keeps blowin the rear offside brake light bulb, i'm thinkin could be bad earth but not sure where the earth points are anyone know? also could it be a fault brakelight switch?? cheers mart

Good progress bein made there rob, wounder about the pillars n screen but at least they are gettin sorted properly and u wont have to worry bout em in future, gonna be so mint when it's finished. Mines coming along ok, just had to swap out the gearbox for another one and got the inner cv's to replace tomorrow, mostly maintenace at the mo, mods funds are low but its all good, keep us updated on yours :)
-
Sounds like u've picked a good place to get the job done rob, definately worth takin right back and bein done properly, so many times i've seen repsrays that look shite after a couple of years, definately worth the time and money to do it properly, Can't wait to see it when its finished :D
-
I stand corrected, now i think about it more i don't know where i was goin with my logic
-
I would agree, the pillar between the doors is stronger due to it havin the rear door hangin from it and the rear door is stiffer than the 3dr rear quarter panel, seem to remember subaru used the 5door in the wrc due to the same reason
-
Sure u don't fancy a swap ?? yeah mate give me a shout n i'll pop up sometime as have a couple of other people to see in torquay at some point.
-
Shit rob someone's robbed your bumpers and lights mate  Roll on for weeks time 8) Glad you found somewhere to get it done mate, will look awesome when it comes back  oh and boys, don't make me come up there and bust out my dirty grey, sposed to be black, cloth interior on u, don't wont to be responsably for that much envy among u
-
Awesome mate, good bit of maintenance done there, , glad u've found somewhere to get the respray done, should have said u were havin a rado meet at yours, would have popped up  not that my gearbox would have made it there :( Wont be long before it's back looking brand spankin 8)

Nah not fixed yet, bloody muppetts ordered me the wrong top mount kits :brickwall: Should have the right ones this weekend Tyres aren't off the rim, still on there at and the mo, does look like there's no rim in the pic tho  Pretty sure now that its cause by the top mounts, Have found out what the droning noise is aswell..............its the gearbox, had it up in the air and ran it and 1st n 2nd are ok but in 3rd/4th/5th the dronin noise begins, so think probably a bearing has gone in there somewhere....tryin to source another box at the moment and get it swapped over as need car on a daily basis.....thinkin i might rebuild my box and drop a 3.68FD,LSD in tho :D
-
cheers supercharged, thought there should be a little movement but wasn't sure but mine are definately moving too much, Will sort them at the weekend and get some new tyres, will get them off me mate as he does me a good deal, and get him to do full geometry check when i've done the mounts cheers Mart
-
Jim i'm gonna be fitting new top mounts at weekend just waitin for payday, absolutely skint at the mo, i just found it strange the way the tyre as worn, if camber was causing it i would have thought it would have worn the very edge of the tyre as well but i more i think about it, i spose it could have, was just tryin to see if anyone had any other ideas or could confirm it
-
thats what i thought at 1st, but can't really see what its rubbin on unless because the top mounts are fecked it rubbin on somethin wehen its on lock and weighted, but will have another look and see if i can see something
-
Anybody?? :help:
-
I did it using axle stands on the garage floor at home and it wasn't as bad as i thought it was gonna be, but removing the pressure regulator was a ball ache as the bolts had seized, which is quite common on these and havin the right tool to press the bushes makes it a lot easier but it did take a while and an extra pair of hand is useful, and bear in mind u have to rebleed the whole brakes system too, 120 to do it is a pretty good price tho so i'd prob go with that

hi Have been gettin a whirring noise and Knocking sound from front end and was having a good luck today and came across this on the inside of passenger front tyre : I'm pretty sure my top mounts are fecked as when the car is jacked up, if i grab the wheel at the top n bottom and rock it the whole strut assembly moves up and down and clonks, plus if turnin the steering there's a creaking comin form the top mounts, would this cause the inside of the tyre like this?? And the other problem i'm tryin to figure out is that there is a whirring noise comin from the bay when driving, its drive related as it increase's,decrease's with vehicle speed not engine revs, thought bearings but have checked em and they seem all good plus passenger side was replace with new hub as well in june. Thought could be back ones, were a little worn, replaced them as i had some new ones lying around anyway and no difference in noise, so starting to think gearbox, did the replace the box oil a few weeks ago, put in synthetic 75w 85 as had couple of bottles already, know it should be 75w 90 but would this have made much difference and cause the box to be noiseier/wear quickly?? :help: Cheers mart

Well mine might be coming to bits soon, so will give mine a go :D
