That's just the job . Many thanks. They look like a good fit. It seems that the left hand side glass (part number ALG 230) may indeed be wide angle (see here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220305578443&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1367wt_1114). Have ordered some, so let's see. No listing by the Ebay seller for Corrado backing plates in his shop. Have found a copy of the manufacturer's (Autoview) catalogue here (http://www.cd-group.com/Components/catalogues.html#autoview) but it is not viewable :(
-
Not any longer! For example, £81.08 for the left hand side mirror from http://www.thetvrshop.com.
-
lol, been thinking about that... but seriously, my mirror glass' are pretty good but im sure in the future getting hold of the mirrors will be a big problem, surely if we got maybe 50 or so members we could approach a company and get some made?? As the driver's side is obsolete, supply of the OE glass is a problem and already very expensive (£70-80). Have since noticed that Summit do a special order service - I'll make some enquiries. Probably would not be heated and most likely be a stick-on, though. Any other options?
-
Yes, looked at this. AFAIR, the glass is about £80 a side, which is too much.
-
It looks like DDI don't produce them any more. I cannot see them listed on their site nor on the ARZ one.
-
Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement mirror glass? Now that VW have made the OE driver's side obsolete, I have been looking for an alternative but with no luck.I have tried the stick-on ones made by http://www.texautomotive.com (supplied by http://www.auto-performance.co.uk) model number RG192-R, but these are the wrong shape. From reports on here, the Halfords stick-on ones (Code number SRG 246/7 - made by http://www.Summit-auto.com, I think) also appear to be the wrong shape. DDI don't seem to be producing any longer and a pair of OEM ones from ARZ would be over £140, which is insane.

This picture measures from the bottom of the rear panel, rather than using the top of the bumper as a reference. IMG_3272.jpg[/attachment:32aqlmue]

I don't think so. When I took it off, a couple of days ago, the backing tape remnants looked original.
-
Took these recently before the car went into the body shop for a full number. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfIMG_3268.jpg[/attachment:37qevde0] IMG_3269.jpg[/attachment:37qevde0]

Indeed. I use AutoAid which is a pay and claim service. Full personal cover for £37 a year http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/. Gets a good write-up from Moneysavingexpert.com http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/roadside-recovery

Spent the day in the body shop stripping it ready for a full glass-out respray.

His name is Chris Olmstead and he no longer does them. However, the baton was passed on to Ricky Ward. See this post: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=91673&start=0

Received mine, Robert. Many thanks again for your initiative, time and effort :salute: . -
You might not need a replacement set of controls. I had the same issue, due to a broken dial, and was able to fix it using some Q-Bond adhesive and the reinforcing powder (see pictures below). In my case the cause of the problem was a break in the track on the underside of the dial. It seems that when the cable gets stiff(er!), turning the dial causes the metal pin which runs in the track to pull through the track. Then, at some point when further using the dial, the metal pin exits the track through the break. Result is that the direction dial turns without effect. Used these instructions to get me started with taking the heater controls to pieces. Taking the direction dial off was quite easy: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/late_heater_control_repair.html Used this to repair and reinforce the dial, bought off Ebay: http://www.qbond.net. I think it is absolutely fantastic. Tip: To help the powder bond to the underlying plastic, put down some adhesive first, then put the powder on. Please put me down for one. -
This might be of help to someone. When looking at cars when originally purchasing, I noticed that some had covers for the screw holes in the footwell A pillar trims (e.g.the trim behind the bonnet release lever). However, it seems the original items have been obsolete for some time (shown in VAGCAT with the relevant screw). After much searching, I eventually found these at B&Q which are a tight fit, a great match in black and finish off the covers a treat. Screw covers.jpg[/attachment:bsh1tned] They cost £2.58 for a pack of 10 and can be found in the sheet metal and tubing section where metal pieces and grills are located (on a stand with all sorts of caps and fittings). It doesn't appear that they do them in grey or beige, so spray paint will be needed. Link for on-line purchase: http://www.diy.com and search for 'end fittings'

Many thanks Mr. B

There is an interesting site about these cameras here: http://www.chucklohr.com/808/. It includes information on how to post-process the videos to remove the date stamp and the news that the lead content of the plastic clam case contains 1500+ ppm of lead (exceeding US Consumer Product requirements for children under 12) - so don't eat the case :). Also suggests that with a battery life of 1 hour and a FAT32 file size limitation of 4GB, a 4GB microSD card is good enough. Charged mine using a cable from a PC USB port, but the camera yellow LED did not go out, even after over 3 hours charging. Anyone else had this? -
Failing on the off-chance someone has them for sale, just wondering if there is anyone interested in making a late red LED sunroof and electric window switch if I supply the bits? Cheers,
-
Mine came fitted to a late so no idea about the door cards etc (but pretty sure this is covered on here somewhere). By swopping over I meant to change drivers to passenger, and vice-versa, to even out the seat wear. Four bolts hold the seats to the sub-frame. Just needed a couple of watchmaker's screwdrivers to release the wiring for the backrest motor (or this tool http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=91375&start=0)
-
Hi Lion, I have the same seats - great choice  . Mine are in great condition but, for future reference, would be interested in what cloth you use for the bolster repair, if you decide to stay with the OEM look. Really easy to swop the seats over, BTW. Cheers,

Have just been quoted £104.95 for a new late foglight, which is insane. It seems as though people have purchased replacement lenses in the past; here for example. Chris Olmstead no longer does these but he put me onto Ricky Ward who has this offer to VW Vortex members http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4657692. I have contacted Ricky and asked him a bit more about the product and process, what the deal would be to supply to the UK and what he could offer by way of a group discount. This is what he has said. Please note that I am not in a position to organise a Group Buy, just passing the information on. I have not seen the items nor dealt with Ricky before. He has been very prompt in answering emails. Perhaps someone familiar with the previous supplied items could comment on their quality and suitability? FAQ -Are the lenses for replacement of the fogs on the late VR6 (SLC), the ones with the fogs as a sealed unit in the plastic surround, with space for the indicators?...YES -Do the lenses come pre-trimmed to fit in the housing? ...YES -Has the logo design changed (do you have an updated picture of the lenses)? ...YES http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc142/monocog50/DSC05907.jpg -If people want to order direct from you, they email you the details and pay by PayPal?...YES -Are the lenses made from glass?...YES -Does the order need to specify either SLC (VR6) or G60...YES. SLC lenses have the lip cut on the sides. G60 do not have anything cut. Pricing and delivery Individual price (Each individual orders direct from Ricky) Price for a one clear lens kit either G60 or SLC, shipped to the UK = $63.00 plus $17.00 shipping, total of $80.00 Price for one yellow lens kit either for G60 or SLC, shipped to the UK = $68.00 plus $17.00 shipping, total of $85.00 Global priority mail costs $17.00 shipping/handling for one kit. Ricky can send a maximum of 5 lens kits in a Flat Rate Priority Mail Box to one address for around $45.00 shipping/handling. He used to be able to ship them through the Post Office via surface mail for cheaper, but they don't offer that service anymore. UPS and DHL are significantly higher in shipping, so he does not use them. Group buy price (Ricky receives one order for 10/20 kits for delivery to one UK address) As above, Ricky can send a maximum of 5 lens kits in a Flat Rate Priority Mail Box to one address for $45.00 shipping/handling. For a total order of 10 lens kits, price for a clear lens kit is $60 (plus $8 for yellow) plus $8 per kit for shipping (total of $68/$76 per kit) to be shipped in two boxes of 5 kits to one UK address. This is a saving of $12.00/$9.00 per kit over the individual price. For a total order of 20 lens kits, price for a clear lens kit is $56 (plus $8 for yellow) plus $8 per kit for shipping, to be shipped in four boxes of 5 kits to one UK address, total of $64/$72 per kit. This is a saving of $16.00 / $13.00 per kit over the individual price.

ABS Pedal distance sensor now obsolete... Grrrrrrr

Understood Jim. My parts guy told me about the roller obsolesence earlier in the week (here). It was the wider issue of why my parts guy missed the fact that the items were still available but only as part of an assembly? I thought there might be something he missed/was not common VW staff knowledge. I have asked him why the VW Parts Support team didn't tell him this. He is the sort of guy who will be miffed that he gave me an incomplete answer . The lesson learned is when told an item is obsolete, to then ask "but is it still available as part of a complete assembly" :)
