  1. The potential for disaster is high. Having said that I used my GTI G60 Golf to good effect on trackdays. You could prolly get a cheap G60 Golf. Charger costs need to be considered though. Could do a 65mm pulley if you are only going to use it at the track. GAvin

    cold problems

The heat causes the gaps to close up, no leaks then. What you doing sunday? Gavin
  4. Bennn in a monster 205 MI16. Throttle bodies, over 200 hp. LSD and stuff. The lad was :cuckoo:  made me :pale: . He kicked ar5e at Elvington, Elises, Porsche the lot. Very tempted to make my own after that......A good recommendation from a dub fool like me. Gavin
  5. A cheap VR stripped out and earplugs would be less than 3 grand  Gavin
  6. I think you could do it if you are not fussy what the base car looks like. You need a real cheap Corrado though. You can sell the trim and engine to get some money back. 13-1500 for the motor and bits doesn't leave much for suspension and brakes. Gavin

Have you set the tickover correctly. Disconnect the blue plug, engine running. Adjust the tickover, rev up a few time or summat, reconnect the plug. Maybe the tickover screw needs cleaning. Might be an air leak too?? Try squirting a bit of WD40 around the gaskets and intake pipes. If it revs up a bit it's sucking some WD in and you got a leak. Gavin

  9. £50 isn't a load of money in the scheme of things. Might be worth trying one. Send a cheque cos then you'll get his address. You can always stick it back on ebay. Gavin
  10. His feedback could be a lot worse though...................
  11. Got toyos on mk3 16V done plenty more than 3000 with lead footed wife at the wheel  Wear not that bad IMO. Not as good grip as Michelin pilot exaltos. Gavin
  12. You have got the jist Jim. Most if not all cards allow you to transfer existing( not yet created debt) onto them. The 0% is not just for new purchases, most of the ones I have seen do actually charge you interest on new purchases. Be aware though if you were to then spend a grand on the card on suspension and stuff, they would knock any payments off this debt first and not the transfered money. Thus costing you interest. You can transfer the money into a current account, to 'clear' an overdraft for example. When I have done this they haven't asked if I actually got one I want to clear. I disagree with dr_mat on his point. You have to transfer the money off the card to use it, new purchases will attract interest. Some come with cheque books that are interest free. Just write yourself a cheque. :) There are folk making money like supercharged by transferring the money to high interest accounts and moving balances around constantly. The card companies are relying on few people doing this and the majority incurring interest eventually. Like Kev says if you decide to keep it use the G60 money to pay it off. Or sell within 6 months and clear the outstanding debt that way. Flogging off your leather would get a couple of payments out of the way. Gavin http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/articles.phtml#CC
  13. Agreed! :) Sort the wheel out before spending any money
  14. 0% is still the way to go. Small monthly payments for 6 months while you make uip your mind. Transfer the money to your current account and Bobs your uncle. Think of it as 'good debt'. You are buying an asset not a liability. At least have the seats out. Fit a cloth set, sell your G60 leather too. Folk will be lined up at your door. TAKE ACTION TODAY. http://www.egg.com :D Gavin

    Simple swap?

Yeah it should all just plug into the fusebox. Strip out anything that was connected to the Golf motor back to the fuse box. Then fit everything that was conndected to the G60 back in. The plugs will only go in the right places, so it shouldn't be too bad. Just take note of stuff as you take it out. Photos might be a good idea. If you were asking if I'd come over and check it out. I'd love to but the 'bent ears' just wouldn't be worth it  gavin

    Simple swap?

The flywheel and clutch on the G60 are 228mm, the Golf will be 210mm. The 020 Golf box just isn't as strong as the 02A cable change box of Passats/Corrados/MK3s etc. The hydraulic clutch is the only hard bit cos. The pedal box of a LHD car would be needed. If you C is manual I would definately use it. Not a long job to bolt it in if the car is in bits. The shifter stuff should bolt up too. Dropping the exhaust would be the only bind, better than replacing gearboxes all the time. Gavin
  17. It could be 2 bulbs blown then. Don't rule out new components completely either. Gavin

    Simple swap?

It should be pretty simple with both cars being LHD. Is the C an Auto? The cable box would be better to handle the G60. You will need to use the 1800 flywheel as the bell housing is smaller. You will also have a smaller clutch which will be less effective with the G60 especially if it's chipped and lets face it, there can't be many std G60s about. In my local scrappy there are some Passat which would donate the bits you need, except a LHD pedal box. Gavin
  19. Might be a bad switch to lose all three. There are separate fuses for the headlight, sidelight and taillight if I remember correctly. Check them just in case. It could be a bad earth at the headlight and a separate snag down the back? gavin
  20. Sqeaky belts until they warm up and get flexible??
  21. I have always said if carbs were any good they would be used in top end motorsport like F1 and WRC. But they aren't. All you get is a load of noise and crap fuel consumtion. Gavin
  22. Hmmm. Need to get 2 VRs quick then. Not had medicals yet. Could do a couple of 16Vs with VRs dropped in the boot. Whats the score with the 12 months, can you tippex the logbook and get a stamp kit from WHSmiths?? Gavin
  23. I'd just whizz some off with a grinder and paint the caliper. Prolly not a weight, I just clocked they are 16s. Gavin
  24. ET25 should be further from the caliper I would have thought. I know some folk who have 'clearanced' their calipers with an angle grinder to make some wheels go over 280s. It probably wouldn't take much to do the job.. Gavin
  25. Jay, this smells like a business opportunity mate. Whats the score with importing then? One car each? Can I scam one in with each of my kids do you think? Any other costs apart from registration and some kind of roadworthiness test? What would be a popular C to bring supposing one were to bring one? I'd have thought VR6 with aircon. Cheers Gavin
