  1. No other complaints about my length! Are you talking about the nearside light? How much longer, 10CM? Which of the battery leads? Kevan sorted, thanks for the referral. Gavin
  2. If your motor is only 8000 mile young, then synthetic oil wouldn't help the rings bed in. Gavin
  3. I'd it's bad to have your car ticking over from cold anyway. Much better for the car to get in it and drive it off. Not much more than a 'pub feature' in my opinion. It's certainly not environmently friendly and wouldn't do your MPG figures any good. I also heard that it would invalidate the cat 1 status of an alarm. Having never fitted one though I can't be 100%. Gavin
  4. The bolt should come out but they are often rusted solid. a good soaking with WD and a rattle with an impact gun works wonders. Undoing the 3 bolts would be easier. but you risk altering the tracking if you don't get it back exactly where it came from. Gavin
  5. Before you haul the engine out, you must have a compression check and leakdown test done. That'll show any weakness in the head or bottom end. I'd think that it may be worth having it checked out and tuned up. For example, you would get no benefit from a full rebuild if the fuel pump was shagged. Gavin

    brembo brake kits

Will send to Germany only. Unlucky  Having them for the driver Henny?
  7. Are they all bolted on. I have had to drill out some big rivets before which were replaced by bolts. Gavin

    Door key/ barell

Check the parts numbers on the old and new handles. I replaced a handle on a Passat and came across the same problem. In the end I just fitted rear handles on the front as wel. I did get it to work by filing off the bit thatwas in the way. I'd take the handle back and point out the error to VW. They may get you a later lock barrel or you could try putting the sliders from your lock into the new one? Personnaly if you have remote locking and your boot lock works OK, sack the key operated front handle/s Gavin
  9. The ign switch is a common failure on Cs. Do search there is a how to for the replacement. Gavin
  10. Owt less than a oner is a bargin in the fuel system. Gavin
  11. Try disconnecting the battery again. Gavin
  12. http://www.abd.org.uk/ Good info on here. Even PLOD have to pay up sometimes. Gavin
  13. Have it bead blasted prior to painting. I have done a few and then spray with VHT paint. You can get it in plenty of colours. If the blasting looks ok, you could just degrease it and spray it with laquer. Polish would be my last choice cos it'll take a long while to do yourself and cost loads to have someone do it for you. Headlights

The 2 fellas selling looms on ebay only have one relay in them. My looms have 2 relays and do both dip and main beam. Holding the stalk so both filaments are on may burn out the bulb due to the extra heat generated. Not recommended IMO. Gavin
  15. A story from way back...... In 96 I did a weeks work placement at TSR. A fella called Dave pitched up in a Metro van to collect a load of heads. He said he had to return to Oxford when I asked where he was from. I only had a brief conversation with him. He did say that he did heads for a number of other VW tuners. Now I wonder?............ Brakes

I have always thought anyone driving a G40 must be pretty special, considering the poor brakes. Having done 130 thru Warrington in Jabbsports Polo. I decided never to go in one again. Maybe you can get a mk1 Golf servo in there with a 16V MK2 master cylinder? Gavin

    gearbox tool

It's a 17mm allen key. The oil you are looking for is REDLINE. REDEX is a petrol treatment. Gavin
  18. Makesure you don't actually run it dry. Keep an eye on the levels. Any doubts call teh dealers and warn them what is happening. They are more likely to respond favourably towards you, if you keep them in the picture, rather than seeing them in court without any contact. Like Steve said they do have a responsibility to provide a decent service to all customers, not just the loaded ones. A headgasket can 'go' in several ways. Oil in the water, water in the oil, pressurised cooiling system, pressurised oil system, oil leak out to air etc. So don't be completely despondant just yet. On the other hand don't set off for John O Groats til it has proved itself. Gavin
  19. A quick post to thank all those who have bought my looms throughout the year. My wife and kids really appreciate all the bread and water that I put on the table for them with the money I made  As a New Years resolution, I hope to get them all shoes in time for our summer holiday to Skegness. Seriously though, I am very grateful and hope to provide you guys and gals with the lights you deserve. Anyone thinking of buying a loom for Christmas, please don't leave it til the last minute. Even if it's just a maybe, then I can put one aside and I'll have a better idea where I am at. Cheers :drinking: Gavin
  20. I'd be interested to know how they measured that 5 thou. It's now't, you could pretty much clean that off with some wet and dry. My mate overheated my Corolla twin cam. The head was bent 40 thou when I took it off but it was still sealed and ran perfectly when I topped up the rad, which had a hole in it. It is possible that there were airlocks in the system that have worked their way out and caused the level to drop. Also, a headgasket replacement is a pretty serious job on any car, like heart surgery. The chances are that oil got into the water ways during the removal of the head. Any oil is going to work its way into the header tank and stay there. I don't think they should take the work on, if they are not prepared to warrant it. Have 'em. Gavin
  21. Look inside the lamp unit. Brown is earth/ground, grey is the city light, yellow low and white high. Gavin
  22. http://www.gsfcarparts.com Disconnect the hub via the bottom ball joint and you won't need to have a geo check done. You might need to use a punch to get the pinch bolt out. I knock a fat chisel into the slot to spread it and release the hub. Did the Father in laws Passat the other day in well less than an hour. Gavin
  23. They have splines on them to make them an intereference fit. They can be knocked out. The Bentley states that they may be reused once on a G60 so I would think thats the same with a valver. Gavin
