BT Hub and 2 wireless laptop connection Faults :(
tony_ack replied to emu's topic in General Car Chat
Don't know too much about wireless, but I do know it has a mind of its own... I used to get this on my first ever wireless setup - two computers tried to connect with the same IP address (even though the router was set up to assign IP addresses automatically), so I always got connection problems when both computers were on. I imagine things have moved on since those dark old days though! -
Don't want to put too much of a downer on it, but my ABS light is like yours - stays on when the car is first started in the morning, but goes out like it should when the engine is hot. It's been a lot better recently with the warm weather, and in the past week or so it's been going out all the time and behaving itself, but I'm guessing it's going to be back to staying on all the time when it gets colder. Luckily MOT month is June :-)

I've also got a shed though admittedly it came with the house, and is made of brick. I wasn't quite ready to knock it down to prove my youth. Your plans to move the parts into the shed are well-meaning but ultimately doomed. Your Corrado will only see the shed as an expansion of its territory, rather than a new home for all its odds and ends. I only realised this after losing a garage, a shed, and yes, the original parts room, to mine.

£120 from VW for a genuine one. £40 for a Valeo OE spec part from GSF The Valeo one is built to the standard of the reinforced VW matrix, and is much stronger than the original which was infamous for exploding in the MK2.

Yep, it's all in the link! If it only advances 20 degrees the hall sender needs adjusting or replacing, if there is no advance, then blue temp sender could be to blame. I'd only spend it on the Corrado anyway :-) TBH there are loads of very very helpful guys on the VW Golf MK2 forum and GolfGti forums, who know a lot lot more than me! -
"Unknown" with Liam Neeson - 7/10 good action and nice pace, lovely shots of Berlin, but pretty obvious twist.

Couple of notes of caution... first remember the Euro is very strong at the moment in relation to the dollar and pound, so these prices may appear higher than they would be otherwise (either Euro prices haven't fallen to reflect the strong euro, or the exchange rate will fall back to about 1.30 - 1.40 euros per pound). Take this into account, and the VR6 at 5000 euros is about standard for a low mileage (which it is) excellent condition example. Also, none of the auctions have attracted any bids - all that matters is the final sale price, not the ad price. All that said, prices appear to be creeping up slightly over here.

Fair enough... anyone managed to fit them to the passenger side successfully? It catches the seat bolster on mine when you slide the seat forwards. I think there's enough clearance on the driver's side, but then there are clutch change issues! I also may have to rethink painting it beige for now - I tried using the Gliptone's colouring kit I had left over from the seats but the paint is too rubbery and just peels off.

You can do most of the tuning yourself! http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=33253.0 Basic principles are... Unplug blue temp sender Set timing to 6 degrees BTDC at 2-2.5k rpm (this is where most people go wrong and set the timing at idle Set the idle speed to 800-900rpm, then set the CO to 1.8% at idle (you'll need a garage for this unless you have your own CO meter) Reconnect the blue temp sender and the timing should advance by 30 deg, if it doesn't then your hall sender is indeed kaput You can also do a test on the AFM to make sure it is working correctly by measuring the resistance over it, but I can't remember exactly what the tolerances are (it's in the Haynes) -
Don't have a pic of these, but when I was choosing wheels I wanted something similar... I think this style of wheel on the Corrado suits 16" a bit better (IMO of course) I went for BBS RCs in the end. I was going for either these or single piece 16" RXs, but the RCs are lighter, and I was struggling to find RXs. Here's a pic (before the alignment was done)

Damn... the Passat ones appear to be sided - it fits on the driver's side a lot better than the passenger side. Anyone know if there's a RHD specific part number?

You can get self-adhesive felt from Hobbycraft at the moment. It's not super-sticky, but it doesn't have to be as it weighs next to nothing. Looks tidy and OEM when fitted (even though you'll never see it). 79p for a sheet of A4... bargain! ---------- Post added at 03:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:40 PM ---------- Edit, here's a link... I bought 5 sheets, and have so far used less than 1/16th of a sheet on the glovebox area http://direct.hobbycraft.co.uk/products-HobbyCraft-Black-Stick-On-Felt-Sheets_272679.htm

Saw a blue Corrado in Sheffield heading from Darnall towards the parkway, with roofbars!

A refreshing attitude from a car manufacturer !

VW have started to get their act together on this through their own classic parts arm. It'll be interesting to see how far it goes. I fear the Corrado will suffer due to low demand for parts however. -

Haha... 'just'...! Easily an afternoon's job, take a full day to be on the safe side. I did this a while ago and wrote a step by step guide on the MK2 forum. Digifant isn't as bad as people make out, mostly it's just badly set up. Digifant should offer the same power as k-jet throughout the range and return a better MPG. Knock control is also a very welcome addition over k-jet :-) There is a fair difference between hot and cold ambient temperatures, though yours does sound a bit extreme. The digi has an air intake temp sensor in the airflow meter which I don't think the k-jet has. Also a busted knock sensor would really affect the running as the timing may be constantly retarded. From the pics though, it looks like your priority may be sorting out that underbody rust! That hole near the jacking point looks ominous - may be time to get the carpets up and check the state of the floorpan on that side. VW Heritage do replacement floors for relatively cheaply though, so all is not lost. ---------- Post added at 09:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 AM ---------- I also indulged in a few e-Bay bargains recently... MK2 16v rad cowling and cooling fan for £1.04! -
The last one on e-Bay.de went for £65! I've just got hold of one, thankfully for a lot less than that, but they are very hard to find. I'd been looking for a long time. There is no large contact area behind the cup holder itself so gluing probably wouldn't work. If you're so worried about the trim then buy a 'spare', but to be honest I'm just going with the screws. Into a beige console :-P Do you think I should dye/paint the cupholder beige to match the rest of the interior, or should I leave it black?

My Corrado is your Accord! Well not quite. It's relatively tidy, but far from perfect. But the point is that I can go into car parks without worrying too much about dings (I still park to avoid them if possible, and ironically if I'm carrying our baby, the parent and child spaces are a safe bet!). I use the car daily, and it benefits from it, keeps it moving, keeps it sharp. Okay, I'm putting about 150-200 miles a week on it, but who cares - it's done 219k now. I've spent a little bit of money getting the car mechanically sound, and I'm pretty confident that it's not going to let me down. It feels like a much newer car to drive. I don't buy into the mentality of having a car you don't care about for daily duties, and a minter for the weekend. Why can't you drive a daily car that you care about and love? I can understand if you have a low mileage car and you're doing 500 miles a week, but even then you need to weigh up whether you can afford a weekend car, especially now we're all a lot poorer. As for parts being rarer and more expensive, most of the parts that will need replacing through regular use are service parts anyway. You need to decide why you have the car and what role it plays, and I suspect you're not too sure. Do you want to use it as a daily - no because you have the Accord Do you want to keep it as a low mileage and mint investment/show car - no because it isn't garaged, and leaving it stood and exposed to the elements 6 days a week will do more damage corrosion-wise than driving it regularly Do you want to use it as an occasional weekend car - can you afford to? Again, you really need to garage it if it's not being used.

I've done this a couple of times.. Did this to my old MK2 GTI 8v. I got on the motorway, and the engine was already up to temp. I put it in 2nd and drove it just off the limiter. After a couple of minutes loads of smoke and black debris shot out of the back of the car - I thought I'd destroyed the engine and the car following me decided to drop right back as he thought the Golf was about to die! I drove it a little more cautiously after that and the smoke cleared after a couple of miles. It never smoked again after that, the engine revved freer and ran smoother. I gave it an oil change soon after, and the new oil stayed yellow for about 8000 miles (it was run on Mobil 1 though to be fair) On the missus MK2 16v, she also had running issues - the engine felt heavy and lethargic and knocked even under light loads. I needed to change the oil cooler and seal for her as well, which meant dropping the oil and water. After I'd done, I took the Golf for a good thrash to test the cooling system was working properly. The first couple of times I took it to the limiter, it was still pinking like mad, but after that the engine completely freed up. Running problems cured!

Cheers for the replies -In the Corrado there are no grinding noises with the clutch up or down, it really just is this occasional crunch. The box now has nearly 220000 miles on it to be fair. I was also stung by the riveted diff problem in the Golf, but caught it just in time (very wobbly driveshafts but still a couple of rivets left in place). I ended up just putting in a second hand box as it was low miles, sounded fine and I got it cheap! I put in Redline MTL from the outset just to be safe! Is there much difference between MTL and MT90? Luckily the clutch was changed by the previous owner, but looking at how much the whole job cost (it included chains as well) I'm hoping the gearbox never needs to be touched again.

Wrong engine - KRs don't have a blue temp sensor! There are three temp senders on the gearbox side of the head. They're all rated the same, but feed different things (e.g. dash gauge, 'ECU'). Try swapping the plugs to them over to see if it makes a difference. K-jet running issues are tricky to diagnose and it could be many things. The metering head itself shouldn't really get dirty as the fuel will keep it clean, though the air flow meter (big flap under the rubber boot on the airbox) can get oily to the crank ventilation. A good clean out of that, the air intake piping and throttle body are a good idea though, and you should try to do it every service if you can especially since older engines breathe a bit heavier. Alternatively you could dump the crank ventilation deposits into a bottle, and blank off the flange into the airbox. Also check that the pressure plate is moving correctly (be careful) Check also for air leaks, and that the CO adjustment screw is still there. If all that fails, you need to start looking at fuelling - check the injector seals aren't perished, and test the flow patterns. If you can get hold of a fuel injection pressure testing kit with the correct unions for k-jet, you should check that the system is holding the correct pressure. The cold start valve can leak also, which will cause problems. Good info here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=99852.0

Do Corrados suffer from this? I know MK2 Golfs are notorious for it, but there doesn't seem to be much about it in the search. I've had a crunch a couple of times but I can't decide whether it was just a lazy clutch leg on my part, or if it was the car. It only crunches from 1st to 2nd, but unlike the Golfs I've had which tend to be predictable and crunch worse when cold and on quick upshifts, the 2 times it has happened with the Corrado, everything has been up to temp and it's just a normal gearchange (i.e. no quick shift or particularly hard acceleration). There is no crunch before it happens, and none afterwards, even if I try to repeat it. Other than that the gearchange is fine, just a tad notchy which is a trait of the cable change I believe, and no whining or other noises. New clutch and flywheel about 30000 miles ago.
