  1. You may need the door handle repair kit from Dave16v. Worked for me and many others.
  2. I have his number but can't PM you as it says "Leonard has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space."
  3. Thumbs up for Swompy - very swift and straightforward transaction for some red rear lights.
  4. Black handbrake cover? the bit the hand grasps that slips over the metal handbrake lever?
  5. Hope you remembered to pick up your lights while you were there!
  6. Went to Kwik Fit yesterday. They were concerned about the sticky weights on two counts - firstly the clearance and secondly they thought the heat from the caliper would melt the glue and cause the weights to come off. They said no point in static balancing them (not sure why) and offered only bang on weights. As the wobble is only at one speed (and not too bad anyway) I can easily work around that so the fronts remain weight free.
  7. Another trip to DG Autotech today for the second installment on the braking update. Had the fronts replaced last year and the knackered handbrake cable before Christmas has prompted replacement of the whole rear braking setup. MK4 Golf Calipers New Disks New Pads New Handbrake Cables New DG Stainless Steel Brake Lines New wheel bearings And a full service while I was there too - why not eh? Thanks Graham, good to see you again! :salute:
  8. Hope your car wasn't on the January page. (sorry, I'll get my coat)
  9. It's the domino effect that gets me. Handbrake cable is faulty so the rear brakes freeze on in the cold COLD weather. New cables are cheap, fitting isn't too much in terms of labour but well those calipers are old and are sticking anyway. So new or reconditioned calipers. But they might as well be MK4 Golf (better) versions. Again not too expensive on their own but they need fitting oh and you need new lines as they are different, again not too expensive on their own. Disks and pads might as well be changed while we are doing it to get the best value out of the labour. So my new handbrake cable is going to cost me a lot of money. I know I don't HAVE to do it all in one go but . . . . you get the idea. In the 18 months of VR6 ownership I have bought the car again in terms of work BUT when it's good it is SO GOOD. I'll have to keep it forever or hope not to spend much more on it in the next two or three years (wishful thinking).
  10. A bit of DG upgrading would be money well spent. Not sure what you have got already in terms of upgrades but their cams and ECU have given me a much improved power delivery - more of it and lower down. I had a 288 brake conversion done so it stops a lot better than before, which is useful if you up the power. I had the original dampers replaced with bilstein B4s (retaining the original springs) and it handles and rides a lot better. That's (probably) about a grand right there in terms of parts and labour. I also had chains and all the associated bits and bobs done but that will eat the other grand.

  12. With apologies for the rubbish art skills the weights were fitted around the circumference os the wheel on the outermost part of the inside of the wheel (inboard of the spokes) as I have tried to show in the left hand picture where there is a wheel, a caliper (rectangle) and weights shown in orange. I assume Kev was suggesting having the weights put parallel to the drive axle as I have tried to show in the right hand (cross section) pic. Suffice to say I am not an engineer or an artist! wheel.JPG[/attachment:zma88x4y]
  13. Bit of advice please people. Got 288 brakes under 15 inch speedlines which is as you all know a tight fit. So tight that when I put the current wheels on the balance weights were touching the calipers and so I removed them. I do get some vibs due to the lack of balance - not massive but it's there and spoiling the driving experience. I took the car to ATS Euromaster who said they didn't have weights slim enough to fit under the calipers. So what to do? A - find somewhere who uses slim enough weights B - get those nasty weights that fit outside the wheel (on full view spoiling my immaculate speedlines) C - get the normal weights fitted again and hope that the metal on metal contact between the weight and the caliper wears one or other sufficiently that there isn't a problem D - is there another option other than living with it? Any suggestions (other than bigger wheels) welcome! Thanks
  14. This was Discovery Shed on Thursday I think

  16. The BMW days are over. We are now a 100% VW household once more. Driveway being shared with IMAG0052.jpg[/attachment:2nomf5hn]
  17. Cheers Andrew, they arrived this morning. Certainly the best result so far, now definitely orange light fighting through all that red paint. Thanks again for the rapid delivery!
  18. Wicked - let me know how you would prefer payment please.
  19. I have tried normal amber bulbs and some fairly "budget" green LEDs and I still don't get amber coming through my red rears. Perhaps they are painted TOO HEAVILY? Anyway these "premium" LEDs might be the answer. How much would you want for the spare set you have please, assuming they are still available.
  20. I do not believe it! The Mrs is trading the 3 series against an R32, picking it up this week and this evening some :censored: crossed the white line a took the driver side wing mirror off and dented the door along with a few scratches. :bad-words: Off course they didn't stop and she didn't get the registration. Really annoyed! No point claiming on the insurance as the excess and increased premiums will probably exceed the cost of repair. Need to get in touch with the garage now and see what they want to do. I reckon the best result is if they agree to take it as it is and give us a few hundred less for it. Final insult is she has been on school holidays for three weeks and went back to work today so I'll have to do all the arsing about to get it sorted. Really cross but at least her and my daughter are unhurt.
  21. What bulbs do you use in your red rears? I use amber ones but they still look very red so I need to revert to stock lights for MOT time.
  22. I got offered 4% off a 90 mm splitter by Drift Bridge in Surrey. Still blooming expensive though at about £140! Think I'll go for the 50 mm one as I know where there is one in stock
  23. Another big thumbs up for the product and the man. I used the send your handle to Dave for him to sort it out method and the service was first class. Thanks again Dave!
  24. The right R32 turned out to be a mk5 on a 56 plate with full VW service history, new tyres, parking sensors, heated leather in Deep Blue Pearlescent. An approved used VW so a little peace of mind. The budget was increased to get something newer, as it is going to be the "sensible" car! Can't wait for the Mrs to pick it up so I can "make sure everything is ok with it". (Whoops - quoted the last post rather than edited it - :epicfail: )
