if your local garage didnt do a proper job and didnt get the head skimmed. but it could be loads of things like what about the termostat could me sticking every so often, have you checked that you fans is working??
-
well where would i pick up the vent from on my 16v T not sur where to start from
-
right so would it work on my car then ie forced induction, if it is possible how would i do what kevHaywire has done ie where would i start from
-
not sure about the ECU but i went to the nurburgring last year and im going again on aug 4th if you hav not been already its amazing
-
hi there what benifit does an oil catch tank have and would it work on my 16v turbo
-
you sure its smoke and not just steam because its cold if it was the head there would be some trace of it going. could be something like a water leak or heater matrix leaking and your just being paranoid
-
Right so if the has done 160k and the chains have not been done and in a best case its had its oil and filters done regularly how worn would you expect the tensioner pad to be.
-
that sounds about right but do you think the noise could be the fans. on my old corrado before my fan totly packed in it used to make a noise every so often and then it just stoped workin
-
rivets are normally alluminum so they should be ok
-
cheers
-
what do you mean a big limp? will it flow any better than the 1.816v
-
could anybody tell me if the throttle body on the 2.0l is bigger than the 1.8 16v and is it a straight swap
-
out of intereast again any body know the weights of the 16v head and the 8V head to compare them all
-
you would think it would be hotter under the inlet manifold but not that hot. just try keeping them off the block/head as best you can, leave it ticking over for a bit a watch for it smoking i would say it would be fine.
-
no its just my mates car has gone into a garage for a service its done 160k and has no sign of a cam chains change in its history. The car sounds very rattley in the engine, when you stick you ear on top of the inlet manifold it doesn’t sound like its coming from the tappets, but when you listen to where the timing chain's are it sounds and feels like the rattle is coming from there but the garage said the chains look ok. you would hope that the garage would of checked the tensioned as well, but do you think the garage could of just looked at the chain for wear or something stupid like that.
-
to inspect the tensioner is it the same job as cheaking the chains (can you see the tensioner from the inspection cover)
-
I no this is going of the topic but what is the next event that the corrado forum is going to attend. At vw Northwest last year I saw the corrado forum gang with a banner but didn’t any anybody so I didn’t go over.
-
right. can you inspect the curved pad then
-
is there any way of telling when the tensioner is gonna go or does it just go all of a sudden

hi all me and a couple of mates and my uncle booked to go to the nurburgring again we went last year it was awsome. Goin on the 4th of august first going to oostend for a night, then sat morning head to namur to watch the FIM world motocross championship stay in namur until monday. Head to stavolot in belgium which is just down the road from spa francochomps (F1 track) to do some go karting tuesday head to nurburgring get as much track time as poss over tue, wed, thur then go home friday. we did the same last year and it was great this year I bought a mk2 golf GTI 8V just to take there to thrash the small spec of car is as followed. 1. fully striped and fully roll caged with side bars 2. race spec fully adjustable AVO coilover's fitted 3. racing seat from a GT TVR race car full carbon fiber with harness 4. engine is standard apert from a chip but she picks up well (with no weight in her) 5. the camber's on the wheels have been adjusted by a subaru rally prep team to an avarge setting so it wont scrub on straight's but it will turn in better (well thats wot they told me). If anybody wants to tag along they are more than welcome .

its Probably the tensioner breaking up that causes the chains to snap. can the chains touch any internal parts thorugh being lose and break or wear them out.
-
just wondering if anybody has every had one snap on them. If so what was the damage, i no its gonna be bad but just out of intereast. cheers
-
