G-Werks closed up shop quite some time ago unfortunately. Personally I've had largely positive experience even with independent garages in the area but I do pick pretty carefully.. but 95% of the time I only ever take my car to Stealth Racing, DG Autotech, or do the work myself with friends. You hear more than enough horror stories to know that it's a total minefield out there - just like so many things in this day and age! :|

Because most Storms are not registered as Storms on the logbook I don't think.. there are considerably more than 10 left on the roads! At one point, they seemed to be coming up for sale on an almost daily basis! :) That said, given the mileage that seems a pretty good price!

Thinking of buying an MG TF 160, anyone had one ?
Jim replied to daleyboy's topic in General Car Chat
Friend of mine had the MGF (before they became TF's) and he too suffered from head gasket problems.. ended up ditching it. Pretty sure he really enjoyed it when he had it though :) -
No chance. They only just clear 288's..

The low ride height of the Corrado with aftermarket suspension certainly doesn't help in that respect. It's certainly less of an issue in my Octavia!

Beans on toast for christmas dinner this year then! :)

NEC Classic Car Show 16-18/11/2012
Jim replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
The one in Dream Rides is owned by one of the guys that volunteers for them doing marshalling, etc. Think he's called Steve. It's been a regular fixture there over the years but sadly he's putting the car up for sale :( -
Rather cheap for CH's isnt it?

NEC Classic Car Show 16-18/11/2012
Jim replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Was a super weekend as much for the show, as spending a weekend with good mates. Good to see everyone - looking forward to next year already :) -
Chatted to you today at the Classic Car Show, Anthony - was good to meet you and welcome to the forum :)

Monthly Evening Corrado Meet - Oxfordshire. Tues 27th Nov
Jim replied to Wendy's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Should be able to make this but it's a heck of a slog (100 mile round trip!!). Might see about sharing with Tempest to ease the pain on fuel. Hopefully see you there :) -
Someone once summed it up for me. Bad women drivers are normally the type to tool around town and have minor fender benders.. scrape their car into someone elses, scratch body panels on walls, or have low speed rear end shunts. Bad male drivers tend to have enormous crashes at motorway speeds because they were tailgating or driving like a complete idiot. I had a 2 year old Audi Q7 full of young lads try and race me off some lights this evening whilst I was 5 up in my Octavia VRS. Much to my surprise we both nailed it from the lights, and I steamed ahead of them beating them to the 2 into 1 lane merge.. which made them look stupid. Rather than eating humble pie (that their 40k+ Audi had just been trounced by a Skoda estate full of people), they proceeded to tailgate me round a roundabout and then perform probably one of the most terrifying overtakes I'd ever seen and were about 2 seconds from going head-on into an articulated lorry coming in the other direction. I can't say I've EVER seen a woman drive like that... I have however seen plenty of guys drive like that. So for that reason I honestly feel guys should have to pay higher premiums.

I like how he invites SENSIBLE offers... what, like his sensible Buy It Now price? What a ringpiece.

Can I come and work in your office?

Often found the same thing. Xenon headlights on big SUV's are I think one of my pet hates.. I can't honestly say I've ever found "normal" headlights to be so inefficient that I've needed an upgrade!
-
Aha :) I've never worked out or heard a convincing explanation for why this is.... I do believe it's electrical though rather than an actual "problem" :|
-
Doesn't sound too shabby ;)

Very generous of you mate... :) Good luck to whoever gets it!

Stupid question but... have you tried taking an oil reading whilst using the car in daylight, or has it been in the dark only? For some reason my oil temperature reads a good 8-10 degrees higher when I have the headlights turned on.. not sure if it's a wiring thing or what, but just throwing it out there as a curveball suggestion. Just thought it may be something that's only occurred since we have darker mornings / darker evenings :)

Bugger. Was gonna have the Storm one.

Actually replacing the bearing isn't that big a deal. I'm pretty crap at spanner work but I replaced mine and it wasn't a chore - the only chore in the end was finding a place to just sell me the bearing. I found some random engineering company in Redditch who posted me one out, and changing it was straightforward. Slacken off the auxiliary belt and remove the tensioner, and unbolt the pulley from the tensioner. The bearing can only come out of the pulley one way, but in order to get it out you need to trim the plastic lip out which is keeping it sealed in. Once that's out the way (took me about 20 minutes with a stanley knife) simply push the bearing out (I used an appropriately sized socket, in a vice) and then do the same to push the new bearing in. Then installation is the reverse of removal as they say in the Haynes manual. The whole thing took me about 1.5 hours and, as I say, I'm pants with the spanners and had never done the job before so was just going off information on here :) The pulley has been fitted to the car now for a couple of years since doing the work and I've not run into any problems with my DIY job :) This is the bearing you need if anyone fancies DIY'ing it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ball-bearing-6203-2RS1-W1-04609-S-K-F-/271098321718?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Washing_Machines_Dryers_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item3f1eb81b36

Quite often pattern belts are just rubber and don't have the material / thread in them that seems to eliminate squeal like this. I had it with my G60 some years back and went through several cheap aftermarket auxiliary belts (without this material) before finally fitting a genuine VAG one (with the material) - and low and behold it stopped it. Not sure if the PAS belt has this anyway but just thought I'd mention it based on my experience.
-
Never seen them before with the black strip, instead of silver.. to me the G60 wheel was always the same as the early valver wheel!

Gotta see the Nurburgring, if you've never been there.. The VW "museum" is interesting (where the last Corrado Storm, etc lives) but sadly very neglected - the Autostadt however is well worth a visit.
