Jim replied to Ed21's topic in Parts for Sale
Very generous offer! I'm sure someone would take it off your hands! :) -
I find the "going to work" thing a bit of a dilemma.. you don't wanna come in and broadcast germs to everyone, but then you just know when you're off with a cold everyone is thinking "slack fecker - he's only got a cold" - what are you supposed to do?! :)

Zinc supplements are supposed to help beat a cold quicker!

With a full ham face wrap..

Indeed. As I see it, both are scratching each-others backs. The CCGB arranges events, but uses the Corrado Forum as a place to advertise events and lure in new members as the majority of people seem to find their way here before they find the CCGB. I'm not organised enough to keep emails going back 10 years so I can't defend my comments with actual fact. The work you guys did on getting club funds back that were stolen was great work and firstly I want to say it wasn't my intention to undermine that.. But I can clearly remember having discussions with Andi back at the time, seeing emails / messages from certain long departed CCGB members (I didn't say the committee specifically!) who were incredibly snotty to him and rude. Hell, old CCGB members were very rude to me as well on the subject of the forum purely by association with it. Yet again this feels like one of those threads I wish I'd never even replied to in the first place. It brings back depressing memories of club politics and things.

Good to see you Jeremy - hope all is well :)

You mean the insurers who sell your details on to these third party companies and then blame them for the increases in your policy, because they're bleeding them dry with injury claims? No.. I never quite worked that one out either.
-
Well - you guys feel free to put something on yourselves in the mean time but I'll look to pick a date and set something up with Stealth perhaps around February 17th 2013?
-
I'm more than happy to arrange another one - really. I'd quite like to roller my Octavia anyway ;) But as I say this year's going to be tough for me. If folks would like me to organise one I am more than happy to do so, but really couldn't be till early next year :)
-
I'm not sure it's going to be practical this year now - I'm quite busy through November and then we're into December and no-one has the money... if people are seriously interested I could look into something early next year though perhaps? January / February sort of time? :)

It's difficult :) The club existed way back before.. since the mid 90's in fact. As times moved on, and as the internet and forums got popular, the Corrado Club remained a more traditional club with offline mailings, a limited online presence, regional meets, etc. I believe that Andi, who setup this place, offered to the club to setup a more modern forum for them but they basically told him they were not interested. In fact I remember they were quite rude about it. Being shunned is always a good motivator, so, he decided to go it alone and make this place. Since then people involved in club have changed, and of course members of one, are members of the other. For example I am a moderator here and I produce the Corrado Club magazine - so am involved on both sides. There has been discussion a few times over the years on some way to amalgamate the two but, understandably, neither side wants to relinquish what they already have. The forum is Andi's... he is, understandably, not interested in giving up control of it. The CCGB has been long established and does not want to change what it is. So that's how we got here.

You didn't have to come in the Corrado.. no one cares... I was tempted to come in my "family car" and I wouldn't have judged you ;)
-
Eh? What about the forum meet that Wendy just organised, and you stuck your name down for... and then didn't show up to! In my experience of organising forum events, this is always the problem... you go to the trouble of organising something, people say they'll be there then don't show up!

Sky couldn't offer me a competitive quote - 31 years old, no accidents / no points, car garaged and doing 3,000 miles a year. You'd think that'd be easy business for them but they weren't interested!
-
With you 100%, Tom. Just rang up my insurer this weekend - I've moved the Corrado to a different lock-up in an area I'm convinced will bring me lower premiums. I speak to them on the phone and tell them the post code and they simply say "Ok then that's fine - we'll send you the paperwork through". I ask will it affect my premium? Will I get a small refund of some sort? "Um... not sure.. we'll be in touch...". I'm sure if I said I'd moved the car to a rough town they'd have been quick enough to stick the damn premium up. I hate them. They're all damn crooks.

As ever Chris, you're a mine of useful information. Thanks very much. Coming to the conclusion with tax due on the Corrado at the end of December and the crap weather turning in, not to mention the crazy petrol prices, it might be time to consider taking the Corrado off the road for a few months to save my wallet a bit - think this is the best option for my wallet and the car!
-
I'm 31... and even at this "young" age, I'm well, well over slammed and stiffened cars! :)
-
Do you have any advice, Chris, for if you have no choice but store your garage in one that's not attached to a house and therefore has no power or similar to run a dehumidifier? If I leave the car for 6 months or so will I be coming back to major problems? Though reading your post about how the dehumidifer works, I guess given that the car is going to be stored over the colder months means that it wouldn't make much difference anyway! :)
-
It's nice to hear some complimentary feedback on the club :) Thanks :)
-
Just get the Golf R32 ones... I had poly bushes fitted to one of my old Corrado's and it just made for horrendous, bone crashing ride with no compromise and arguably no real improvement to handling. I'd never, ever fit them again. Ever.

I think whilst there's nothing in writing about that Baz, we do employ that sort of rule - especially when it comes to things like the National Day and so forth :)
-
It's a fair point and it comes up on a regular basis - and no, it won't get strong replies (at least from me). The problem the forum has is apathy - people expect to sign up and have someone else do the organising for them. There's only a handful of members on here who actually bother to do this for other members - e.g. 8vMatt who sorted out the headlight switch group buy. The organisation of the CCGB is different in so much as we have someone who's "job" (though I like to point out, as committee members we don't actually earn a penny!) is to book club stands for shows and handle all the correspondence and paperwork which that entails. And the CCGB has money so is able to book events that might, for example, require some money up front. Or things like the National Day where we all went to Brooklands to park on the famous banked circuit - which was no small charge for the club. I speak as someone on the committee of the CCGB and as a moderator on here - if people want to book stands for the forum, GREAT - go for it. But the majority of people can't be bothered unfortunately.
-
Andi said recently that he gets a ridiculous number of unique visitors to the site each month... so I think the place is still pretty busy, perhaps with lurkers? But I would expect a continual decline in userbase given the limited number of Corrado's left on the road, as more and more get written off or just broken for parts.

VW legal department hitting out at fan websites again
Jim replied to Tempest's topic in General Car Chat
It really is just a lottery - I have had similar experiences with my local dealer. They're enthusiasts, and help out enthusiasts. But I know there are plenty who can't be bothered and just see someone coming in with list of obsolete parts or a list of trim clips as a pain in the backside.. :| -

"Er hi.. yeah... my collection of 15 Storm's had their badges stolen. Can I have some replacements please!" ;)
