I've still got a single set of new, sealed in the bag, rubber grille grommets (the three that secure the grille into the slam panel) - wonder what they're worth :D

Jim replied to Jim's topic in Forum Group-Buys
Man, I am really sorry guys. I know folks have been asking me to make more of these for a while and I just keep putting it off. I will do something about it TODAY. Again really sorry for my forgetfulness and laziness. -

I believe the red Corrado took third place in the Pride of Ownership awards. I popped past earlier today to stick my vote in the box - it really is an absolutely stunning example. -
Hope you're well, Jim. Did you finally sort out all your engine woes? I'll have to go have a look at your gallery thread as I haven't in a while. Can't deny, I don't really miss the Corrado at all. I think having owned four of them, over a period of 15 years, I sort of got it out of my system. I think there will always remain an element of them being my "first love" in terms of cars, so they will always be a bit more special than everything else but like you say, there's a lot of other interesting cars out there and aside from the occasional nostalgic glance at a few for sale, I've had no strong desire to get another. I'll never say never though. I did spend a day giving my other one a full clay and polish last year and yeah.. I was a pretty broken man by the end of it :) These E39's are interesting beasts and whilst they're widely regarded as the last of the BMW's that enthusiasts can fix on the driveway (and there's a lot of truth to that), there's still some hideously complicated electronics on them as the car operates several CAN-BUS networks and various things are controlled by different units which can be re-coded and flashed and the like. I've briefly dabbled with it but was so terrified of turning my car into a brick, I didn't get too cocky.

Could well be the ignition switch. On the Corrado the problem tends to manifest itself as ignition / dash all coming on when key turned, but no cranking at all when turning to the start position. Following the diagnostic advice above should help you pinpoint the issue :)

Cheers Darren. The owner was a proper enthusiast. He only sold up as he was acquiring a mint 540i ( 4.4 V8 ) with only 34k on the clock, but I could tell it was paining him to let it go!

Well, I'm afraid Corrado ownership is very much a distant memory as I acquired my second E39 5 series last week. It's amazing what you can find out there for next to no money.. this is a two owner from new, full service history, receipts file an inch thick and in absolutely superb condition 523i (2.5 litre 6 cylinder) petrol - with a desirable 'Sport' kit fitted (which includes different alloys, sport suspension, and a few other bits). It just drives so nicely, and is so comfortable. Fuel economy is surprisingly good too. Makes a nice noise but you can tell it's a heavy car and "only" has 170BHP so not a rocket ship by any means. Had a bit of a hairy start to ownership after driving the 3 hours or so home from Gatwick when the expansion tank blew. A known / very common problem on these cars (they're nothing like the sturdy tanks VW used!) but a relatively inexpensive part an an easy enough job to swap it and so far, touch wood, so good. Still got the other one too though she's very tired and rough compared to this one. Hopefully bring it along to a few meets and shows this summer to catch up with some folks now I have a car to be enthused and reasonably proud of again!

Stupid question but does it have black leather Recaro's? The plate sounds similar to a car I had the chance of buying quite a few (10+) years ago now, but turned it down - and was kicking myself forever after!

Welcome. Always got time for a nice early valver! :)

Ultimate Dubs 2018 - gauging interest

Hey - you've got the US plate on display that I grabbed for you last year at Stanford Hall! Nice one! :) -
I have to say I was pretty pleased with the AP coilovers I put on mine prior to selling it. I'm sure of course that something like the B12 kit would have overall been higher quality, but the AP's bolted right up with no problems and rode nicely. Can't comment on what the longevity would have been like but for the price I was very happy.

Can’t claim to have known him very well but I think we both got into the Corrado scene around the same sort of time in the early 00’s. Only caught up with him last year at the VW meet he ran in Coventry and was good to see he was still well into it, though said he had been unwell for a while and could see as much as he had lost a lot of weight... but he said he had turned a corner and was on the road to recovery. Was a real bombshell to read the news this morning.. gonna take a while to come to terms with it I think. Hit me a bit more than I thought it would. RIP man.

Hi Ron - I believe Eric is interested in taking a space, if he hasn't already registered. May be worth dropping him a quick email but I saw him earlier this week and he mentioned he was going to get in touch! -
A good head refurbishment would probably cost you in the region of £300-£500, then plus labour for removal and refitting. What exactly is the diagnosis / symptoms that have lead your friend to believe there is a problem with the head?

That's gotta be pretty depressing.. I considered buying some 4 years ago, and never did, thinking I had missed the boat on their value... Anyway - I bought some a month or two back and it's already doubled in value. If, as predictions suggest, Bitcoin goes on to be worth substantially more than it is now, it's never too late to start. Just don't invest anything you can't afford to lose.

What is Santa bringing your Corrado for Xmas. (And cars name please)
Jim replied to Cressa's topic in General Car Chat
Even as someone with an insane amount of posts on this forum, those of you who name your cars need to seek help :D :) -
Thread moved to Exterior forum.

It's also just advertising to a wider market. There's plenty of Corrado owners out there who aren't forum or club members, or who are just Corrado enthusiasts who don't own one.. it just means it's a chance to sell them to as wide a market as possible.
-
Not a hope. 17 is large on a Corrado, 18 is possible but difficult... 19's are just way, way too big.
