Or indeed was disconnected as we found out ;)

@ VAG-hag Thanks, I live here near Lancaster University. It's only rented though. Definitely agree on the colour, I love it. Pictures never seem to do it justice. @ dukest I had a double take myself when I came across his car on the forum the other day! They must have been registered in the same batch. I wish it was that car I'd bought as I think there'd be nothing in need of attention...but then again it wouldn't have been 1600 quid either  Mik

Hello all, I finally took the plunge and bought my very first Corrado; a Classic Green VR6 with 118,000 miles on the clock. I've had to start out on a budget but I'm pretty happy with what I've got so far and things are starting to come together now with a decent amount of cash thrown at it since. I've updated a list of jobs done below to keep a track of my progress. So what have we got... The Good: Classic Green VR6 now with 121,000 miles Full black leather interior Full closure Cat 1 alarm Sunroof tilts & slides Spoiler fully working Schrick 268 cams Big bore throttle body Upper and lower front anti-roll bars Lower rear anti-roll bar 17" ABT A11 alloy wheels Leather ABT Nardi steering wheel Aluminium ABT gear knob ABT engine cover badge H&R Coilovers The Bad: Previous accident damage but repaired and been on the road for 9 years Bodywork has several areas which need respraying to be right but nothing terrible Intermittent ABS fault light - seems to be dodgy connection OSF CV joint knocks occasionally on full lock Throttle cable stiff The Ugly: Disastrous noise from the top of the engine - Tensioner bolt caused rebuild! [more info here] Noisy rattle through first gear! [more info on symptoms] Jobs Done: Reconditioned cylinder head, 8 new valves New timing chains & tensioners Cylinders re-honed New piston rings Bottom end rebuild Crank shaft polished Oil pump rebuild Gearbox rebuild New clutch New plugs & leads Fuel leak found & fixed ISV cleaned out Throttle body cleaned 2x front ABS sensors New discs & pads all round Replaced corroded rear brake lines New rear bearings Brake fluid changed Oil & filter change Oil cooler seal Power Steering fluid changed Replaced (badly) cracked thermostat housing New blue temp. sensor Replaced leaking top hose After some terrible luck with this car, I think I have sorted out pretty much every major problem you could foresee and (touchwood) am out of the woods now...but alas, I think it is time to sell! Not yet I'm afraid but I will be doing once I'm actually back home and on a computer not a phone. I bought the "ABT" one from the classifieds dispite it being a Cat C
-
Bought it!! :-D
-
Not sure, I guess that could explain it though I've never heard of that. Although I have also never bought a brand new car  You'd think if they were resetting the odometer they'd press the trip button too though
-
Is it just me or is the mile(kilometer)age a little suspicious on the second M3? It says the car has done 92km and yet the trip shows 104.2km
-
I think a full respray apart from the roof seems a little excessive to just get rid of stone chips but it's certainly not beyond the realms of what some folk are prepared to do to have an immaculate car. The interior certainly looks mint and supports the low mileage and if the history is genuine too then it just comes down to speaking to the seller about why it was resprayed. As for the price, it seems pretty astronomical but I don't really know how to value it according to the low miles. As with any car, it's worth as much as someone is prepared to pay.

If this is the ad you mean, I have seen that car and can confirm that it is Aqua Blue not Mystic Blue.
-
Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm very dubious about bidding on ebay cars without seeing them first. Did you manage to get your deposit back? Thanks for the heads up, seems like one to avoid unless you want a complete project. I always think if a seller can't even be bothered to clean a car for a viewing what does that say about how they have maintained it!

There's no engine number on the actual engine at all? Is this common with replacement engines?
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking, some sort of admin error causing it to default to zeros or something. Doesn't seem like a common occurrence though, just about the only other thing I could find was another topic on here which was thrown up in an advanced google search ;)
-
I called Experian and they confirmed that the same engine code is held with the DVLA so not sure how it got "reset" at some point. They did say it wouldn't be a problem if I gave them the code from the actual engine it would get updated on their system and show correctly on future reports. I think if yours had insurance work it is correct not to show on the HPI check, it's only a total loss that gets recorded. :)
-
Anyone else noticed the seemingly transparent wheels?! What are they made of?
-
Hi all and sorry if this isn't technical enough for this section (please move if not)... I've recently done an HPI check on this car for sale on the forum and a couple of things came up. Firstly it is being shown as a Cat C rather than Cat D and Phil is helpfully trying to get to the bottom of this but also the engine number is shown as ABV000000 :confused4: Obviously this isn't an actual engine number and I was wondering what could result in it being listed like this? Could the engine have been changed and perhaps that is the reason the car is a Cat C instead of D? Alternately could it be related to the cars apparent trip to ABT, they may have replaced the engine. I'm not totally against Cat C cars but would of course like to know the extent of what caused it to receive that classification. What do you guys think, could this engine code be related or indeed be a problem and what's my best bet for trying to find out? Cheers, Mik

They call it "Porsche Intelligent Performance"...... I call it "Oh My God, I want one of those!" Funnily enough, just yesterday I was looking at the video on the Porsche Museum website and thought it was about time they produced some more classic designs in their cars. Now here we have it, quite possibly the best looking Porsche of all time?! I like it THAT much (regardless of the economy) @ kevhaywire 94mpg AT 200mph would be the real unbelievable claim ;)

The motorways in France are much less disciplined than Germany and be prepared for tolls as they can fairly mount up depending on your route through France. You can pay with cash or card at the toll gates as long as you pick the right one. We got pulled up on the exit lane off the Nürburgring in my dad's Rallye as he had German style plates on it. I think they initially thought they were invalid German plates with it being LHD but when they realised the car was actually British they insited the plates were removed. They said the plates were an imitation of a legal document seeing as the seal stickers represent their tax/MOT.
-
If you haven't been to the Nürburgring you should definitely make the effort to get there. It's East of Mannheim though so you'd have to visit that on the way. It is worth checking what events are on at the ring and when there is public driving sessions with the calendar on bridgetogantry.com. The Porsche Museum is just over an hour on from Mannheim according to Google maps. That'd be worth a detour to me but not sure your good lady will necessarily agree ;)

There's quite simply no deterrent, especially for youths as they know they're even more likely to get away with next to no punishment! We can thanks the rise of bureaucratic cretins and unrealistic morons who think discipline is a bad idea and that these anti-social c*ck ends should be sympathised with as a victim of a failing system!
-
Only in context  If it's billed as a show car it shouldn't have a scratched bumper imho and the paintwork is really down to personal preference.
-
I'm not sure what route you're planning but by the looks of it it would be rude not to stop off at the Nürburgring on the way. A must for anyone who's never been. Germany Trip.jpg[/attachment:1owpljvx]
-
Sorry if this is owned by anyone on here but...... :pukeright: And the front bumper doesn't exactly look like "show car" standard to me :confused4:
-
Hi, I can have a go at a few colours for you. I did a selection for rado-steve in this topic. Do you have any pictures which show the wheels a little better and a little higher resolution? Mik
-
Yeah, so I saw from your signature but it's likely that he didn't quite remember and so went for chairman ;)
-
Thanks for the info guys & girls :) It's always fascinating just how much previous history can be turned up through this forum. It's certainly very interesting to know that there is at least one Storm without a sunroof. @ Butterfly Perhaps the CCGB Chairman reference is to you? As you say though pictures would help a lot and I doubt it'll sell without them unless someone very local pops round for a convenient viewing.
