I'm currently on the hunt for my first Corrado VR6 and have found that the average prices are between £2,000-£3,000 but also up to more than £5,000 for particularly good ones. From viewings it's becoming clear that the closer to £2,000 you look, the more work you can expect the car to need and likewise ones that have plenty of maintenance & history are at the £3,000 end. However, don't assume that because someone wants near £3k that it means they have a well looked after car. You might also want to familiarise yourself with common faults and things to look for when buying, here is a good starting point :) Mik

Just spotted this on Pistonheads and noticed that he's written "Very rare non sunroof model which has full documentation from Germany to prove this is a genuine Storm"!? Now, am I mistaken or wasn't the Storm only available in the UK and all came with sunroof? :confused4:

More money than sense :cuckoo:

It was a few years ago, I think that may even have been the current shape Audi at the time. I've seen it several times but it's still amazing to see the total devastation to virtually all the car but for the drivers seat!

haha, well thanks for that mate good to know there is someone decent at the yard then :) I did indeed swap my doors for GTi doors and simply wanted to get rid of the old ones before moving house, lol! That red Corrado didn't look great I must admit, the paint was abysmal but still it's a shame to lose another. Mik

Yeah, I understand the whole health & safety thing even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I guess the couple of times I came back since that rule was introduced I must have got the wrong guy as the whole experience wasn't very helpful. I did however go there again with 4 Satin SIlver Mk4 Golf doors and a much more helpful guy sorted me out with some cash for 'em :) Yeah, that's the place I mean, it was a good place to rummage and in fact I once saw a red Corrado going in there and thought it was a terrible shame to see it going to scrap.

We could give him the benefit of the doubt in it being a typo and should be £9.99 ;-)
-
Its even better than that, there are 4 available so you can really shell out! Perhaps we could negotiate a group buy

Nice stroke of luck there, glad you got what you needed :) I like a good scrap yard but the one near where I used to live in Preston became a joke when they prevented anyone from going into the yard themselves to look for parts and added a £5 fee for the privilege of having them do it. One of the best things about scrap yards is scouring a vehicle for anything and everything which might be useful to you, that's not possible at places like that :(

Another day imagining how good it will be when I finally get one

Quite possibly just a bad earth. (sorry I don't own a Corrado yet so don't know where the horn is)
-
Did you recommend a forum for him ;)

That's got to be the most fashionable sausage of the moment, it seems to pop up everywhere!

 I'm probably going to go and have a look at that one, I'm fairly indifferent on the various blues though so I'm going to try inspire myself with how good they can be made to look. The price leaves me with some money to spend on the car and make it my own ;) That's a damn good point!

This topic is amazing, the first page alone had be gawping at the screen in disbelief! I wish I had the kit and knowhow to take on things of such magnitude, this is going to be better than brand new when you're finished! Mik

Yes, good point that most cars are going to have a list of niggles and I don't have a problem with that because I know I'm not looking at the immaculate price bracket. What I don't want to do though is buy one on the assumption that a problem is a little niggle but turns out to be something much more complex and costly. I think patience will be a virtue and have tried not to get carried away and jump on the first one which looks smart ;-)

Not to mention the 90's, from which most things (except Corrados) have dated horribly ;-)

I strongly recommend that everyone tries a corned beef, spring onion & brown sauce toastie, it's the best toastie combination bar none :)

This is the sort of thing I was thinking could be added to this thread so that could perhaps become one place to post and look for info/warnings about cars for sale at the moment.

METTALIC BLACK VR6 CORRADO STOLEN ON FRIDAY NIGHT
MikLSP replied to Timbo's topic in General Car Chat
I noticed that you said there was fag ash, did they happen to leave any actual fag ends? If so you should ensure that the police recover these as they can be used to gain DNA from saliva traces on there, unfortunately this sort of thing is not going to be high on their priorities but if the evidence is there I think they should try to catch the turds -
I've always used places like German & Swedish, Euro Car Parts and independent VW parts dealers like Volksworld in Preston and never had problems with the quality of parts. Having said that I haven't had a performance VW and so perhaps the parts aren't quite as critical.

I hate insurance companies, they're very quick to boost your premium for a nice car but then won't ever pay out for one! My first car was a MkI Golf and that was written off while parked up! Some idiot was towing a trailer full of bricks and decided to go too fast and/or not connect it properly. It detached from his car and plowed into the back of my Golf :( The insurance sent me to some "independent valuation centre" which was basically an ex bent copper in Burnley who came up with a value of £300. I took it to a VW specialist who gave a counter valuation of £1500! ;) With negotiation I got £700 and kept the car which I then sold for parts and ended up with just over £1000. So I would definitely say DON'T accept their valuation without trying to get it higher and if, as others suggest, you can push to get the repair done I would go for that.
-
No problem, hope it helps you decide but I would suggest only doing it because you REALLY prefer it that way and not just out of boredom and doing a mod for the sake of it ;) Mik

You seem to be missing the point, I'm not saying I want an immaculate machine for a tiny budget and I also didn't actually try to start a discussion on whether it's worth spending x amount of money when trying to sell a car. What I was looking for was helpful advise from people who may be more experienced with spotting potential problems and what else could be wrong beyond things suggested in an adverts like the first one. I'm certainly taking on board any such insights which are given. I don't know what's needed to sort out the suspension and what else may be a contributing cause, hence the topic, and I wasn't aware of the cost of setting the camber for example as I haven't ever had to have that done. This is the sort of info that is helpful to pass on to people who are new to these cars. As for leads, no I would probably have bought some from German & Swedish for about £40 but again maybe I don't know that I should be spending more than that. Sorry if looking for helpful advise, airing possible concerns and not having an infinite amount of cash to purchase a car with is inconvenient... Mik

I understand that of course but with this particular example he has the original suspension which is being sold with the car, it would cost nothing to simply reverse the work he did putting the aftermarket stuff on. The other problem is HT leads which hardly cost thousands, more like the cost of a tank of fuel, if your car was misfiring simply due to the leads you would simply replace them for your own benefit and not just to sell the car. It's just me perhaps but I think if I knew that these were the problems with my car then it would be easily fixed, leading me to be concerned that there may be more underlying problems
