  1. If you are looking to polish your engine bay you should start with a 'detail sander'. ('Black and decker' make these, cost about £20,) I borrowed one from a M8. I sanded the manifold and intercooler (just what can be seen when you open the bonnet). As the intercooler and manifold have a rough texture, start with a rough grade of sandpaper and gradually work your way down to about 3200 wet 'n' dry. It took me about a week (an hour a night) to get the desired finish. The only good thing about doing this job is that it doesn't restrict you from using the car, if you neet to, just close the bonnet and drive away. :) About six months later I was in a hardware store and spotted some aluminium polish. :D It cost about £4.00 and brought a real shine to the parts (almost mirror like). Dan As regards maintaning the look, no problem. It lasts a long time. I just polish mine when I'm polishing the outside of the car. I would say, Go-for-it....
  2. That's a real nice looking example you've found there leew. 8) Wish you all the best of luck with it.
  3. The Koni dampers with Eibach springs combination is very popular with corrado owners. I've recently fitted Koni coilovers and initially found them just a little bit harsh at the back (should have expected this I suppose). I expected the coilovers to range from original settings to sport settings which they don't. There is a good adjustment range but, it ranges from sport to almost solid. One point I should make, the ride comfort does not change with rasing and lowering the car. However the road holding improves significiantly the lower you set the car. All things considered, I'm very happy with them and would score them 8/10
  4. Definetly not the bumper but, those rims (look like Azev's) do suit the c very well.
  5. It's is a nice colour for the Corrado but, I don't think they're rare. If you want to see a picture of green Corrado's you can look up 'autotrader.co.uk', or 'exchangeandmart.co.uk. Loads of pic's there.
  6. Your fuel pump is under the car below the RHD back seat. It could be either the pump itself or, there is another part which lifts the fuel (not sure of it's proper name). You should get someone competent to check both these first. Good luck...
  7. My impressions of Eurocarparts is there brilliant if you own a Mk2 Golf.
  8. Yes, I've managed to get the link sorted and seen the article. It's a pity the newer type handle doesn't fit. (or?) There are a lot of newer vw's and Seat's about with similar looking handle mechanisms.
  9. Anyone got any pic's of the new door handles. I've been toying with the idea myself and I know where there's a 95 Passat for breaking. (I tried Darren's link but there was an error) Cheers...

    Insurance

If I were you I'd stay as you are. There are advantages in having two policies as you've pointed out but, as long as your covered in the c under someone elses name, i'd be happy with that.

    SpiralMax

Yeah, that's what I thought. Their web page looks a bit dodgy as well.

    SpiralMax

I was brousing the net the other day looking for superchargers and came across a product called 'SpiralMax'. It's no supercharger but apparently it can improve the performance of any car. It works by twisting the air that comes in through the air filter and, the twisting of air helps the combustion within the engine therefore increased efficiency and power. It only costs $69, Anyone have any experience of these? They have a web page at SpiralMax.com if you fancy a look.

    low mpg

I'd say 30mpg is a fairly good average.
  14. Hi Andy, I'm no mechanic but, you could try the power steering belt. It may be slipping a bit therefore causing variances in power assistance levels. Just a thought...
  15. Since I bought my VR6 almost 2yrs ago It's given me some pleasure and a lot of heartbreak. I bought it with 76k on the clock with a fvwsh and it now has 85k (I drive a van all day). Honestly, I've spent about £4000 between servicing and repairs. My dilema is, to get any major work done with the dealer costs a fortune. When I bought the car it had an oil leak somewhere. As I was so excited to have the car I took it to a local vw dealer and told him I wanted the car sorted no matter what it cost. Big mistake, they said it needed a new head gasket and some other work done and quoted me £750. So I lied, It did matter to me how muched it cost. To get a second opinion I took it to a local mechanic and he fixed the problem by replacing an oil cooler seal. Total cost £75 :D So you'd think that it makes sense to use a local mechanic instead of the stealerships, Wrong. I noticed on taking off my car would make a slight groule that I could feel through the clutch pedal. I took it to my local man to get it checked and he told me that the car needed a clutch. I bought a new clutch and he fitted it. Called to collect the car and when I pulled out there was a slight groule that I could feel through the clutch pedal. :( Turns out, this problem is well known to VW and is caused due to a slight variance in the transmissions gearing. It is also common on Transporter vans and the old Audi 100 cars. Since then I've had so many stupid problems with the car and various mechanics that sometimes, I feel like having this corrado is like being in a bad marriage  Sorry for this post, the car and I are just having a bad day and I had to talk to someone :)

    MPG ?

I took my VR6 on holiday with me this year and it was so pleased it returned 36 point something MPG. Usually it reads around 31. I got a pb on my 16v of 44 MPG when I brought it home for the first time from Newcastle.
  17. Hello G60ING, Welcome to the forum. That's pretty impressive reading in your post. You sound a bit like me. Spending more time working on the car than driving it :)
  18. I was getting some in-pro lights but, now I've decided to get the frosted vinyl from Nik instead. My girlfriend's pleased with the money savings. :)

    VR6 induction kit??

I bought a Pipercross induction kit for mine but it was so luod it was embarrasing. I then bought a 'jetex' panel filter from Awesome GTi and am well pleased. It sounds much the same with normal driving but gives a deep throaty sound under accelleration. Depends on what your after I suppose.

    R32 v's Corrado

Hi VR6, I see what you mean about the insurance groups, that should make the Subaru impretza about group 2 cause they seem to be more common than the Focus. :) Only joking.

    New wheels?

Hi sefton, You should only need to get them balanced and aligned. Whoever fits them should be able to do that in 5 mins. The tracking only needs to be adjusted if you lower the car. what kind of wheels did you buy?
  22. Hi Guys, Anyone see Top Gear last night? That R32 looks a nice pice of kit. It's about time VW brought out a serious hatchback with some street cred. I think they lost their way a little, when you look at their recent advertisments 'some things are better left alone'. Ironicially the R32 looks a cross between all three of the cars used in that ad. The thing that p's me off is the R32 has 240bhp and is group 17. My VR6 has 190bhp and is group 18, bummer or what? Maybe the Corrado is a higher group because it still looks better! :D Have a happy Christmas everyone... Darren

    Insurance

I'm 30, with 3years NCB and pay 'Quinn Direct' £1090 for third party only. :x
  24. :? sorry mate, that's an unusual problem. The fact that the windows & roof work sometimes would suggest that there may be an earth problem, i.e. a connection needs cleaning. Don't dispear, thats part of the joy of owning a c.
  25. Don't change your clutch. The juddering you feel on take off is well known to VW. It is caused by slightly different sizes in the gearing cogs. It is also common on the VW Transporter vans and some other older models. I changed my clutch thinking it would solve the problem, but guess what? it didn't. The judder can be felt through the clutch pedal especially on first take off of the day. It is not a major problem and it will not get worse. My advise, save your money Hope you see this in time, Darren
