  1. I think I've fixed my leaking bottom rad hose. For whatever reason the one on there was a non-standard pattern piece that didn't seal properly at one end...and I think it was a bit too thin and narrow. Sourced a good 2nd hand one and some decent hose clips from Screwfix and the incontinence seems to have stopped. Think I found an oil leak though...buggerrit...
  2. Hi all, Got around to installing my breaker-sourced ambient temp sensor today, only to find that it's reading either + or -40 degrees. It's cold out, but not that cold... So I'm trying to trace whether this is a wiring or sensor issue - I have a multimeter, what sort of resistance should I be looking for across the sensor?
  3. Apologies for starting a second thread so soon but this seems to have cropped up as a matter of some urgency as, upon inspection, I've got an overly-long, thin and frankly poor quality one in place that just isn't forming a seal properly and is leaking. It came loose and dramatically weed all over the ground earlier today and I've tried to reattach it with a bigger jubilee clip but it's just not very good! So as above - lower radiator hose for a VR6 please!
  4. Amen to that - some great advice...BUT isn't there a risk of it sounding a bit muddled if the fronts and sub are amped and the rears are running off a tiny HU amp? I suppose if it's just to 'fill' out the rear then it might not be the be all and end all...just a thought. TBH I tend to just ditch the rears altogether as I'm never sat there anyway and find that quality front components fill the car enough. And I'm never sat in the back anyway!
  5. Hi, A few issues there...trying to take them in order... You won't get much bass from a stereo without running a separate amp. You'll be lucky if the inbuilt amp is pushing 25w rms, nowhere near enough to drive a set of 6x9s properly. Your best bet is to run a separate amp, thus opening up a load more power whilst taking the load off the Alpine HU. As to what to do about bass, then yeah - you'll need a sub. I'm new to Corrado ownership but the interior looks pretty cramped to fit a shallow sub - you could always get a 10" sub in the boot - I've seen some nifty things done with the spare wheel well and making it into an enclosure. A decent 4 channel amp will power a sub and a decent set of components (or coaxials) in the front. I've never liked 6x9s. Don't see the point alongside a sub and components. I'm intending to fit some decent Hertz front components (5.25" to retain standardish door pockets) and a 10" Hertz sub in a sealed enclosure with an Infinity 4-channel amp mounted to the back of the sub box. It won't knock your fillings out but should be bassy enough for my taste. And yes - swapping red and yellow wire in the loom should save your radio, track position etc.
  6. Hey all, After a couple of bits for my VR6 as above... - good boot struts that don't drop on my head every time I open it - decent, unmolested parcel shelf (ideally grey but not too fussed - just not with massive holes in) - the rubbery bungee cord thingys to go with - I've got one, but the other's snapped and I'd rather have a pair Ideally as close to Essex/Herts as possible, but happy to pay postage. Cheers all,
  7. I just filled up with G13 as I went to Seat to ask for some G12++ and they didn't have any. I think GSF still supply G12++ if you ask around...but for the sake of effort I'd do the whole lot as above.
  8. Well, technically mine covers yesterday and today... Replaced my cracked front indicator (Cheers Johnny H) - probably the easiest car job I've ever done. Pulled out the ancient Sony stereo and CD changer that was bigger than a loaf of bread and fitted a new stereo - again very easy as the correct ISO adaptors were all there, as was an aerial signal booster (which wasn't working previously for no other reason than the little 12V power supply wire had been earthed? Last owner said it had 'just stopped working'. Clearly it can't have ever worked). Think I've traced the source of my lights misbehaving back to a blown indicator Replaced the stuck open thermostat - probably the most labour-intensive 'stat I've ever done, and rolled over into this morning when I pulled the old front flange off the housing to find it was made of cheese and cracked through. Thankfully VW Harlow got one in for this morning, and it all seems to be a go. Engine heats up much quicker and operates within normal temps now. Much happier. PUT in £20 of fuel - 40 miles later of 'spirited' driving, having owned the car for a week, and I'm pretty sure it's one of the best cars I've ever driven. I'm addicted to that VR6 noise in an almost sexual way...needs more fuel now though!
  9. It's the blackberry 'Rado from my first post...although during the week I'll also be driving the new Beetle to work as my wallet can't stand the abuse my right foot dishes out on the VR6...
  10. If it's Bentley or Haynes I'm Bentley all the way!
  11. Work in Braintree, lived there for 6 years up until last Spring....surprised I didn't see you around!
  12. Trying to source one from a breaker, been offered this for pennies... VDO, 357 919 370, 809/7/7 1.90 Cheers,
  13. I've just bought the OP's car yesterday and today the fault has reoccurred...rear lights double flashing instead of indicators, brake working the dash display, all very bizarre. Glad I used the search function as it means I'm not starting from scratch...will investigate later and report back...
  14. Yup, that's exactly what it does...right, looks like I'll be doing some shopping then...
  15. Hey all, Really chuffed with the vr6 I picked up this morning...but noticed on the long drive home that the temp barely touched 70 degrees, and when cruising at 2.5k less. The needle IS moving, and was fine on the test drive a week ago. Doing searches brings up two options...either a constantly open stat, or a faulty sender. Fan is blowing hot air after a couple of minutes as it should, does this help diagnosis? Cheers all,
  16. Where you based then? I can keep my eyes peeled...
  17. Thanks for the welcome - I'm in a wee village called Takeley, right on the Herts/Essex border. Still technically Essex...
  18. You know what, I hadn't noticed them There's one on each side but they look like shop bought V6 stick on badges to me. If they are still there they'll be destined for the bin tbh.
  19. Hey all, Long time lurker first time poster - I'm soon to be the proud owner of this beauty... Standard and unmolested VR6 Corrado - a car belonging to a member of the site whose stamp may be visible in the photo I've pinched from eBay ;-) I didn't actually realise I had an account, but it would appear that I've been drooling over Radoporn for some years! Long time lover of Dubs and own a variety of Golfs, a Beetle and a Camper all in varying states of repair (I'm a regular on CGTi, VZi and RR) but I've lusted after a Corrado for some time and the VR6 is a modern marvel of engineering - and it sounds pretty good too! Not got many 'plans' for it as such - It's too original to ruin - just thinking a very subtle drop of about 35mm, maybe a different set of wheels (thinking Mk3 Golf BBS or possibly Audi Pepperpots) and update the stereo to take my iPod. Then roll it as is for the Summer whilst I mothball one of my Golfs that needs urgent attention... Will get a reader's rides thread going when I have the car!
