  1. How do you know if the power steering pump is on the way out? I started the vr today for the first time in 2 weeks and as i turned the steering wheel there was a pretty bad whining/squealing noise. After a 20 min drive the noise is still there. Only happens when i turn the wheel. If i turn the steering wheel even half a cm the noise is there and if i hold it in that position the noise stay unless i let go of the wheel. Too dark and cold to check the fluid now but will do in the morning. Cheers
  2. Ive got this the issue too. Seemed to have dissappeared during the summer but is back now. Will keep an eye on this thread.

  4. Wall Street 2. Money never sleeps. Gekko is back :notworthy:
  5. I haven't replaced every brake bit. Thinking of doing disks and pads but im not sure if this would be causing the squeak? I had a boot on the cv joint that was split but that was replaced and squeaking is still there :(
  6. The car rolls to a natural stop as far as i can tell. As soon as i touch the brake pedal the squeaking disappears. And i'm 99.9% sure that the carrier is torqued to the correct figure. The brake pipe is not twisted but 'straight'.
  7. Just paid. Sorry, got the pm last week about payment but just forgot.
  8. Is there anything other than a sticking calliper that would make or create a squeak and make the wheel hot to touch? Im running out of ideas :-(
  9. No haven't tried that. Will give it a try today. Out of curiosity why would that help?
  10. Ive had a squeaking from the front drivers side wheel for a while now. I think its the front drivers side as the driver side wheel is a lot hotter to touch than the passenger sides The sliding pins were removed and, sand papered down and re greased but the squeaking came back and the front drivers wheel was still extremely hot compared to passenger side. So yesterday i replacd the caliper with a another one (bought off here) and the damn squeaking is back. Weird thing is if i turn the steering to the left it disappears but then sometimes if i turn to the right it disappears. No consistency except for the squeaking and hot wheel :( It is driving me mad now. Literally 3 weeks ago i had the front bearing, wheel bearing, track rods and ends, bushes, new shocks and top mounts replaced at D&G so i don't think it will be anything to do with this. Any ideas, please please help
  11. Hi, How much for the loom with OEM connectors? Ive got a late VR with standard lights. Cheers Krish
  12. So is this the right oil then? Need to order asap to get it by the weekend. Thanks
  13. Hi. Can someone please confirm the gearbox oil i need for my vr6 is on the link below. Looking at the 2nd row and 2nd from the left, Redline Synthetic Manual Transmission 90 MT90 75W-90 GL4 Thanks http://www.opieoils.co.uk/showcategory. ... -atfs-mtfs
  14. Are there any symptoms that show you need to bleed the clutch? Looking at doing my brakes and pas pump so might add clutch to the list.
  15. If you still have some in stock ill have one too please. Cheers Krishen
  16. Blue storm. M4 this afternoon about 5pm heading west just before the bridge going to Wales. Looking lovely and you had a fully working sunroof (saw the sunlight bouncing off your head
  17. Right thought id update you guys. i received a call from the garage last week, telling me some great news. After investigating they found that an oil breather pipe was not only gunked up but the gunk had solidified. So they cleaned that out put it back on and smokes gone. Been driving the car for almost a week now and engine wise it is lovely. No sign of smoke whatsoever :D Thanks for the replies. just a side note, my fuel gauge seems a bit odd. When i plant my right foot the petrol gauge drops and then when i slow down it goes back up. Its almost as though its some sort of "live" mpg reader :confused4:
  18. Ok got a call today from the garage. When they started the car from cold there was alot of smoke. Once warmed up, less smokey. So they are going to take the head off and check that everything they replaced is ok (at their cost). When they had the head off originally they did check the bottom end (as much as they could see) and they reckon it didn't look too bad. Small glimmer of light but not raising my hopes too high. If they still come back with bottom end as the cause i will check out DGAuto to get a 2nd opinion. Cheers.
  19. Agreed. At 103k i wouldnt expect the bottom end to have gone, how did they diagnose this? Perhaps post up a video clip of the engine running. Have a look at the exhaust to see if its burning oil (blue smoke) rather than white. May also be better to take it to DG to have a proper look over. Dont lose hope, there is usually a cost effective solution, if you dont mind getting your hands dirty too. Definitely is blue smoke. Haven't checked plugs yet as the car is still with them till i get a chance to pick her up (this weekend). What and Where is DG? A garage?
  20. The price they quoted was a ball park figure. Just the pistons alone were coming to over £600 (from stealers) Best bet would still be a Vege engine I reckon and you maybe sell your head on. Shame I know but... How much do you trust your garage to do the work properly? £1000 is quite a lot to do a head gasket and not check the rest of the engine for wear (in my opinion) I think they are pretty decent. Work was done at MidlandVW. After the head was done they did say it may still be abit smokey in which case would need aengine rebuild. The overall bill came to £1k but had quite afew bits replaced (upper timing chain, tensioner and guides, water pump, valve seals, oil breather pipe).

  22. Its done 103K miles. Body wise its pretty mint. When i took it for a test drive it seemed fine. Oil looked ok and no mayo gunk under the cap.
  23. Hi. right i really need your opinions/advise with my situation. Basically bought a corrado vr6 beginning of Feb and the day after i picked her up blew the head gasket. Got that repaired (in total cost £1000) and been driving it for the last 2 weeks and its been going through oil quickly (2.5 litres used up in less than 400 miles). Garage that did the head gasket have now told me that it basically needs a bottom end rebuild. Been told that this is a pretty expensive job (around £1500-£2k). Or they suggested if i can find a good engine, do a straight swap or even just the bottom end. Im really stuck on what to do. Not sure if i should just sell the car and cut my losses? Repair? Scrap/break her? I know people say corrados are a money pit and i was prepared for it but this is on a different level. What do you guys suggest?
  24. Haven't checked the plugs yet. Im assuming its the valve seals as before the head gasket went didn't have an issue with losing oil. Just annoyed as im really liking the car but not being able to enjoy her :(
  25. Ok. So i got the VR back 2 weeks ago. Seemed to be ok. Was still a little smokey on start up but thought it may be down to condensation. Drove her back to London and it was fine. Don't really get a chance to use her during the week but took her for a drive last weekend. Again saw abit of smoke every now and then but checked coolant and no issues. Drove her back to brum today thought she smoking abit too much for my liking. Checked the oil and there was literally a tiny bit on the bottom of the dipstick. Basically in the space of 300 miles over 2 weeks she has used up 2.5 litres of oil. Surely that can't be right :confused4: I had the valve seals replaced when they did the head so could it be that these were damaged/not fitted correctly? Ill be talking to the garage the work was done at on Monday morning as it cost over £1000 for the work, but just wanted your get your thoughts on this. The smoke is definitely from the oil (slightly blueish in colour and distinctive smell).
