    G60 or VR6?

this is true, and i agree. no corrado owners over here rate them for shit either. i know first-hand (not my car.. but hundreds of customers).. do not leave your car at a stealership for service!! especially if its old and more rare. ie corrado. however, the guys i'm talking about have proven time and time again to be knowledgable and the one really good guy in particular (the only person i would take/have taken my C to) is a scirocco fanatic. really good knowledgable guy. he's always been able to sort any problem i have come across.. not fix it himself.. but tell me how to fix it.. and he's always been right first time. on the other hand.. i watched one of the rookie guys at that shop rev a cabrio's engine to the point where it lost all its oil on the ground and completely destroyed the engine. the girl who owned it was a poor college kid..only in for a tune-up. :(
  6. yep, thats why its there! ...to piss off the guy you just flew past..especially if he's driving a HONDUH!!! 8)
  7. could be the mounts.. could be the sheer ripping torque of the G60! :D you can grab an oil cooler off an old audi (like i did, think it was a 5000 or something) or something else, and somewhere, someone sells a sandwich adapter kit that fits between the oil filter and where the filter screws in. i haven't fitted the cooler yet so i don't know where to get the adapter.. i've had it recommended to me a few times though. don't mess with the oil lines goin to the charger if you fit a cooler... bad idea to change that around at all unless you're 100% sure its going to get the oil it needs. stick with the adapter.

    G60 or VR6?

i worked at the stealership for a half a year.. when i talked corrados with the mechanics that have been there since they were first released (and back a good ways into the rocco years).. the were all very pro-G60 and semi-anti-VR6 saying that the 8v engine in G60s is bulletproof (tired chargers are another story..although they never saw a completely blown one) and that VR6s are problematic, they see them coming into the shop pissing oil all over the ground frequently, and are much more money to put right when the engine goes blah. they call them pigs. as with anything.. you have to maintain it.. you get what you pay for.. etc.. etc.. there are examples of extremes for both engines. i'm not trying to slam you VR6 guys, i'm a big fan of the VR6 (perhaps a bigger fan of the G60 though ).. i'm basing this on the comments of mechanics that have seen tens of corrados over the years (wouldn't be surprised if more than a hundred)... and hundreds and hundreds of VR6s and even more 8 valves (non-supercharged). ..also.. its worth mentioning that i'm in north america, and we only have the 2.8L VR6 here.. the 2.9L may have different characteristics. i have no experience or knowledge of the 2.9L other than that it is quicker and better than the 2.8L ..listen to scott, save £500 for after the purchase. :D

right, cracked paint.. thats what i thought you meant. when/if i do it.. the car will be painted after. glad to hear you're happy with how things turned out. can't wait to see the pics.. is the colour at all like 'raven pearl metallic' like audi used on the le mans series TTs? i don't think you guys got them, it was a north american thing i think. but that colour... WOW. thats the colour i'm goin with.. was gonna be this spring, but i'm pushin it til next winter now i think. anyway, get those pics up! :D

    late for work

gazza: that's fairly light traffic.. about medium actually. based on toronto driving.. in the core of toronto you can't get much over 60km/h usually! that is about how heavy traffic is from my place up to toronto when its an 'off' time.. not busy at all, but not the middle of the night.. i'm sure you guys have a lot less room to work with over there.. toronto is about the only place traffic gets bad around here.. except the expressway that goes between kitchener and waterloo (the two biggies in this area) which was poorly designed and resembles a parking lot at rush hour (they're building a multi-million dollar overpass right now.. 2 or 3 year project to fix the conjestion). i'll make a film on my mum's digital when i get the c out!

whoa! it wasn't me... it looks like that car (mk3 gti?) is goin pretty quick.. my cars are either way slower than that.. or way too important to me to drive like that!!

haha... you 'can't really do that over here' either! if a pig saw that they'd impound the car!
  13. here's a glimpse at driving in north america for you guys across the water. lol! http://www.agtronic.com/videos/Late%20For%20Work.wmv

    Short shifter

no idea about the kit.. but julesz is right, SLC = VR6 corrado in the states.. that was the only place they badged them SLC and they are no different than other north american VR6s.. 2.8L.. not 2.9L like you guys were lucky enough to get.

chuck: what do you mean don't roll arches, they rust? paint them after?? :?
  16. when i was workin at the stealership.. every time i looked at an A4 (alll day long) i'd picture those headlights on my car.. wonder if i could do it. i'm glad that guy did because i think its a bit much and i'll stick with BMW or euro lights. you guys don't realize how good you have it.. our lights are PURE SHITE on this side of the water. my only concern is the headlight covers.. the guy who did that A4 conversion said he heated and shaped some plastic that is like 100 times stronger than glass or something like that to make the covers.. is there a cover you could buy to go over the BWM setup? i think i'll go with BMW for two reasons. its the cheapest solution, and i'll be able to see at night. :? anyone on here actually done the BWM conversion?
  17. all good points guys.. vr6storm: my G60 has ABS, but its disconnected gazzaG60: that is not an inaccurate list..i hate to say. i need, or did need before i did it.. almost everything on there. the initial purchase price was about half of what an 'ok' VR6 would be around here though (it was about 40% of two G60s i saw in the ads around that time as well..expensive G60s!!)... and i knew what i was getting into.. i actually look forward to fixing things as i go. ..hey, my sunroof is fine, windows don't rattle, rear spoiler works, its tuned right up with proper parts, but everything else on there.. wouldn't hurt to have it done, but only a couple things are high priority for me... all in good time. even with those bits that are a bit tired.. still a joy to drive everytime i get my ass in the seat!! ..if you do most of the work yourself and have a connection for a bit of a price break on parts.. you'd be surprised how cheaply you can get away with fixing things. most engine-related bits i've found can be sourced from any old 8v... and are much, much cheaper.
  18. ..better handling too.. lighter engine mounted behind the axle as opposed to in front. 8) my work here is done, time for lunch!
  19. c'mon.. someone has to have run at least one of these struts.. how do you like them? what springs do you use with them?
  20. you might also want to consider cost to upgrade.. VR6s are expensive to mod for very little gain... where as you can get very impressive output from a G60 for very little investment. chip, pulley, fpr.. you'll be close to 190hp i suspect. stage 4 charger, cam, maybe a homemade dual intake and front mount IC... i bet 220hp. i could be off... but you're not going to get near the same bang for your buck upgrading a VR6 as you will from a G60. :D
  21. any opinions on bilstein vs. koni yellow? koni's will run me close to $574 US (thats front inserts only, full rears) and bilsteins $380 US (front inserts only, full rears). i'm still waiting on pricing for complete front asemblies. shouldn't be more than $10-15 more ea. i was all over the konis.. but now i'm hearing that for regular street driving the bilsteins are more comfortable.. and that they are more 'settled' when you drive it hard. anyone tried both side-by-side?
  22. try the isv reroute if you haven't already. i have most of the 'official' vw literature of that time period (88-92) at home and it specifically says the isv bleeds boost past 12psi (it says it in bar but i can't remember what that is now) i bet if you reroute you'll see at least a little increase, if your charger is puttin out over 12psi to begin with. i see 13psi when i go to ~6100rpm.. but my charger has a blown seal, leaky silencer box and dirty ic.. 65mm pulley. can't wait to see what it puts out after the rebuild and rsr outlet. i get around 5psi when i blip the throttle.
  23. thanks kev. i just heard back from shox.com. set of four - koni adjustable (90-92 G60, not sure what else they fit): $574. and i assume this is US money, can't imagine it being that low if it was in canadian. they also sell the front insert by itself, still waiting on price for that bit.
  24. any idea on the price difference? i have access to air/heat or whatever it takes to get the nuts off. (hehe, nuts off) if its gonna save me a little cashola i'm all for it!! 8) as far as the gap, the knowledgable US listers have either used coolant or oil to fill the gap, and i've also heard of using brake fluid but it is not ideal since it absorbs moisture and will corrode the metal. let me see if i can find the post about the gap.. "I don't like brake fluid 'cause it's hygroscopic and eats paint... I have used engine oil just because I fear rust. I think the main point is that you should put *something* in there that has better heat transfer qualities than an air gap." "since there is a small amount of space between the insert and the housing, he filled up that space with anti-freeze, rather than just 'leaving' the air in there." seems to be a widely known procedure on that list.. anyone here have any input?
  25. its midnight over here, must be near 5am on that side eh! was just reading the US club list and came across something i haven't heard of before. has anyone tried taking out the stock strut cartridges on the fronts and replacing them with koni adjustables or something else? figure this will save me some cash over the complete assembly. then i've heard you fill the gap between the cartridge and the mount with oil or coolant.. it disapates heat better then air and doesn't rust your new suspension setup.. any thoughts?
