  1. I cleaned my valves up on my G60 with a bench wire wheel. Aslong as there is no pitting on the seat surface and you'll need to spend a bit of time lapping them back in ( as you will with new valves too). The exhaust valves are always in worse shape than the inlets. It's a good idea to measure the valve stems and the guides for wear as if it's excessive the stem seals will wear out again quickly.

    thanks for the reply done a quick for guide wear with a wobble test and the movement was negleable

    will try and clean the existing valves

  2. just an update on this - contacted the supplier it appears the new valves are triple angle seat?? ( if I am correct iam new to this )

    and the head will have to have seats redone by a machine shop

    not to keen on this and have decided to order new genuine valves from classic parts.

    or can the existing valves be cleaned and reused?

  3. Can anyone tell me if the rear of the sill where it meets the rear arch is a drainage point.

    done a bit of poking about today a found rust at this point and now I can fit my finger in

    once I removed the thick sealant and found a lot of dust behind it?

    does any one have any close pictures of how this should look once repaired?

    thanks

  4. I have stripped my g60 cylinder head and was going to replace valve stem oil seals.

    upon removing the head id remove the valves and found the inlets perfect but the exhaust

    valves badly burnt and clogged with ash (car has covered 108k)

    I decided the replace the exhaust valves and ordered replacements (german) and upon installing

    them the valve seats are much narrower about 1.5mm compared to about 3mm of the original and the

    valves sit completely flush with the cylinder head where as the existing valves including the inlet

    are slightly raised (piston side)

    has anyone came across this before and would it affect the performance / running of the car?

    thanks

  5. Has any one any advice on how to remove the rear windows on a corrado

    i have tried using a wire as in the bentley manual but it will not cut

    the sealant

    so far after 3hrs of trying so far all i have managed is about 3 inches

    using a sawing action with the wire on the vertical b pillar although the

    manual tells you not to.

    i am thinking of heating a small blade and gently cutting the sealant from the

    inside but iam afraid of damaging the windows rubber seal as i have never seen

    what this looks like before being mounted.

    maybe i should cut my losses and arrange for a windscreen fitter to call and

    remove them for me before i loose my temper and end up doing some real damage!!

  6. I have just reassembled my g60 charger but think i have made a mistake

    I replaced the displacer bearing (torrington) and fitted the relevant circlips oil seals etc

    can someone confirm if the displacer has an oil inlet to cool the bearing and the circlips

    should be installed as not to block this?.

    i remember reading an article but this was a g40 rebuild and this was one item that was

    highlighted which stated to ensure that the bearing circlips were installed as not to block it.

    Thanks

  7. :lol:

    Very similar to the second hand sealey I have, looks good, belt drive, so relatively quiet.

    Thanks for the replies some good honest advice there

    With regards to the paint that advert says that if applied correctly there is no need for a clear coat but looking at my corrado bumpers areas

    have began to flake (age related) and to me it is a clearcoat as the paint below is still intact!

  8. in a same situation as you GER040, after digging around found this article that might be of some use to you in regards to Non-Iso paint.

    http://www.hmgpaint.com/press-releases/versatile-non-isocyanate-topcoat-is-a-paint-for-the-professional-finish

    Find the nearest Auto paint shop to you & go have a chat with the guys in there. it's in there interest to help you out as you'll probably buy your paint & preping items from them plus they will the best way to do a DIY job.

    Consider the general public as well, 2kpaint is nasty stuff from what i have read.

    I'm getting a free Dvd on how to spay cars with my compressor (which turns up tomorrow:smug: can't wait). i'll give it a watch & see if it's any use. if it is i'll send you a copy:cool:

    Hello rorgasm i think i have the dvd you may be talking about (how to paint your car - an american dude with hair from the 80's ) its a 2 dvd set? any way with mine only one dvd played the other stopped after approx 20 mins !!!.

    This seems to be a bit of a minefield - painting cars - on one hand i want to try it but dont want to spend silly amounts of money only to find i cant do it.

    Then as you say your own H&S is paramount as with the general public.

    iam lucky i have access to a store/workshop within a small industrial estate.

    out of curiousity what size of compressor did you buy (litres & cfm output)?

    ---------- Post added at 5:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:37 PM ----------

    that paint looks interesting ? have you or know of any one who has had experience with it!

  9. Thanks for the reply davidwort have got a store to use and can screen a section of it off

    interesting that you need a air fed mask for 2 pack clearcoat - dont think i will have access to this

    just bought some dvd's of ebay so weekend will be spent in front of the telly

  10. True, you have to get stuck in, check out vrowner85 thread to see someone whose home sprayed to a decent standard.

    Yeh live in Belfast, I'm a blow in, moved over in 2005 :)

    i have just seen the work you have done to your own car very nice and all to an excellent standard !!

  11. if you're not precious about a show car finish, are feeling brave and have the time to commit to it, then consider the '50 dollar paint job' :)

    good results can be achieved... http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?40341-My-quot-rustoleum-50-roll-on-paint-job-quot

    thanks but i might like to try to keep it original if i can, i just might like to give it a go after all how are you meant to learn if you dont give it a go

    and by the way just noticed your from belfast as myself!!!

  12. Hello i am considering giving painting my corrado ago after getting several quotes and others not interested (only seem to be interested in insurance jobs)

    i dont want to be a complete prat when entering my local car paint suppliers and need a few basic details of car paint

    my corrado is flash red which i can order no problem but does this require clearcoat or is it some other kind of finish

    the bumpers are showing there age with general flaking of the top coat not the paint although one has a minor crease how is this repaired?

    i can get hold of a compressor and need to purchase spray guns

    Any advice will be appreciated

  13. My g60 corrado has covered 108k - i have been working on it when time and money permits to make it roadworthy as it had been off the road for 2 years

    i now wish to inspect the charger - it has never been overhauled and boost is poor but before i either post it to a specialist (jabba or g works) or attempt to overhaul it myself with a kit (£150.00) i am going to dismantle it to see if it is serviceable (do not want to post it only to find its not serviceable) - posting from n. Ireland- what do i need to look for or will it be obvious once it is opened?

    Can the engine be run without the charger? If so what do i do with the oil lines etc

  14. Found these readings on my 92g60 setting 2 - what do they mean?

    1. = c10.

    2. = 450 - 470 (flunctuates)

    3. = 800 - 830 (as above)

    4. = 0.3.

    5. = 0.

    6. = ----

    7. = 17

    cant find them mentioned in the vw handbook?
