  1. I have had a lot of vehicles over the years but 2 in particular have me regretting

first is a mk1 Astra gte ( have not seen one in years) as mine was a solid car with only a minor oil leak which I did not bother to investigate and I regret to say was quicker than a mk2 golf gti that replaced it. these cars are really sought after now.

the second is a golf rallye I had for a mere 10 months. it caused me grief for the first 6 months with numerous leaks including a replacement rack and a new genuine complete exhaust that cost a small fortune. but the car was well speced with electric recaros and low mileage but in the end after I got it all sorted I hated the sight of the thing and sold it for buttons (4K) I knew from the moment It

left my home that I would regret it and I have especially for the value of them now I should have just put it away.

  2. tried both pe and abs plastic welding rods - could not get any of them to bond to the splitter

So done a bit of minor grinding of the split areas to create a gap reinforced the rear of the damaged splitter with additional pvc (used pvc window trim) it was all that was at hand not the prettiest but its at the rear and who is going to see it maybe the MOT man. filled in the joints with flexible body filler, rubbed down with fine wet and dry paper and sprayed the entire splitter with textured bumper paint (thanks STU) and it has come up a treat - very happy looks like a brand new splitter from the front just made my day - this will do until they become available again

  3. They aren't for sale but would be willing to swap for early door cards as have late interior but would rather have early spec doorcards to keep it a bit more period correct.

hello Sr Neale I may have pm you by accident I meant to pm the seller. sorry

  4. nice repair stu come to think of it i have a good soldering iron here tempted to have a go!

just looked on the ebay for plastic welding rods and there are so many for various plastics

The splitter does not have any marking on if for what type of material it is - maybe was not required during the nineties when recycling was for the geeks and anoraks!!

  5. As above

need a front splitter 90mm been in contact with vw classic parts who say they are currently seeking a manufacturer

in the mean time i know someone who will attempt to weld my existing splitter but needs to know what type of plastic it is made from

most modern plastic panels are marked with exactly what they are made off but having looked at my splitter all i can see is part number and date of manufacturer

    any one any information?

    Thanks

  6. On a similar note i left my corrado in for a respray last week - the car is flash red with one code but the painter asked if i would like choose a shade for it?. i said there is only one code for it. But he explained to me that during manufacture all car companies reguraly change paint suppliers and all are slightly different- i just asked for a shade as close as possible to the existing.

  7. dont know if i can upload a video as tech is not my thing but will try

went to take a video with my phone and of course the engine ran from cold to 105oc with no noise

    TYPICAL!!

Will try again tomorrow to see if it returns as it will do

  8. Yes the engine was fine although it did run rich as the cat sensor cabling was broken part of the reason it had failed the mot.

if it was a piston ring would it not constantly tick or am i being stupid?

its the temperature thing that has me confused - faulty tappet but i would expect this to be show more if it was cold but the car starts perfectly to a nice idle with engine quiet

it sounds to be at the top of the engine i removed the oil filler cap and you can hear it but maybe i should get another look

The engine gets very hot quickly not to good for the fingers trying to locate noises

  9. Hello an annoying thing has started with my g60

i rebuilt the top end with new tappets (INA) and although my car is not roadworthy at the moment i regularly run the engine up to temperature

and all was fine until recently it develops a annoying ticking noise.

The car starts fine no noises until it reaches 50-60oC and the ticking starts but by 90oC it suddenly stops!

i have replaced the fuel rail as the wiring was crispy as at first i believe the car was misfiring during these temperatures.

i tested the injectors and all are fine. i also fitted a new genuine knock sensor.

i bought this car as a non runner but upon purchase i removed the sump pan to find a good 25mm of thick grey sludge but the area surrounding the oil pick up was clear there was minor surface superficial rust on the crank but i put this down to the car have sat outdoors

The car had sat for almost 2 years

iam temped to flush the engine with a cleaner to see what happens

i asked a friendly VAG dealer mechanic who scratched his head as it has been over 20 years from he worked on a g60 engine.

any ideas if it is something simple
