1. It could well be down to VW saving money on loom tape. Lol. The golf loom for my OBD2 conversion had inch wide insulating tape from the factory. Not seen it on a my coilpack Corrado loom though? Maybe it's a Golf thing. Is your loom from a Corrado?
2. Same as my loom was, OEM shoddiness. Self amalgamating tape is great for sealing the joins. Then cover in Tesa fabric tape to retain the original look.
3. It's 43mm, I've got this type which is too bright!
4. I think 38mm is for the map, glove box and boot. From memory the courtesy light is 43mm? I'll measure mine tomorrow if it's not answered by then.
5. That's right, thanks! Had a brain fart and posted the wrong link. Try again; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-New-Vw-REAR-AXLE-BRAKE-LINE-PIPE-CLIPS-SET-OF-5-Golf-Mk2-Corrado-Polo-/161329253041?hash=item258ff90ab1:m:mGr0QSI1wCu_qas-mZyoXew Didn't realise there are two types, do you know what year they changed over?
6. I've been meaning to buy these for a while, not sure if these are what you're after: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-New-Vw-BRAKE-LINE-HOSE-PIPE-DOUBLE-CLIP-SET-OF-5-Golf-Mk2-Corrado-Polo-/161329274751?roken=cUgayN via @eBay_UK
7. Nice one on passing the MOT. After my rebuild it took a while for the coolant level to settle. How much are you loosing?
8. Took a couple of days to fit new bonnet foam. The old foam pretty much fell off but the glue tough stuff. White sprit and tar/glue remover seem just as effective. Leaving it to soak overnight does nothing. It's just a lot of scrapping to remove it all.

I think they are VR6 OE numbers. Maybe they are regrinds? Are they any numbers on the end of the cams?
10. Yup they've got that wrong! The first 7 digits denote the part type and format the last 3 are specifications. So 0280 161 *** is very wrong. 0280 160 *** would prob fit but could be a different pressure rating. The 4 bar fpr is Bosch part number 0280 160 575 make sure they get that although sometimes they are superseded. It would still be 0280 160 ***, 4.0 bar.
11. The cam cover is OEM. I think it's from a late Mk3 Golf. Didn't realise is wasn't a Corrado part when I bought it, but I kinda like it now.
12. I think it might be worth bridging the pins in the yellow temp sensor plug to check the function for the aux pump. I doubt the lambda will be the source of the low idle as its ignored by the ECU until the car is warmed up. Unless the car thinks it's warmed up due to a faulty blue temp sensor/wiring???
13. Of the few I've done, most have come out with the cat in place. Depends if it's seized, give it a squirt with penetrating lubricant.
14. Aaarrrgh, I hate bodywork. Good luck!
15. MOTed with no advisories :-) Emissions seam good too!
16. Both the coolant gauge and the aux fan are controlled by the yellow temp sensor. Have a look at "The definitive VR6 cooling guide" on the forum for testing. The ABS light, as fendervr says, is likely to be the connectors on top of the suspension torrents or under the under the wheel arches (if you didn't have the problem before). Worth adjusting the dashpot on the throttle body to try and maintain idle, if not test the isv.
17. There's a separate fuse for the window/door module above the relays in a single fuse holder. 20A yellow. Lighting circuit is separate. If it keeps blowing you probably have a short circuit.
18. Finally fitted the catch can I've been working on. Just needs a bit of finishing round the edges.
19. Use either sealant or a gasket not both. I hate using sealant as the mating surfaces need to be spotless and perfectly flat and I don't like the thought of loose or excess sealant blocking oil ways.
20. When I did mine... To build up the oil pressure I turned it over a few times by hand with a spanner on the crank bolt (battery disconnected). Pulled the fuel and ECU relays and turned it over on the key for 5-10 secs. Replaced the relays and started her up and held 2000-2300rpm varying slightly for 20mins (new cams). And the controversial bit... Took it out for half hour with some hard acceleration and decel runs up to about 4000rpm, to build up gas pressure to seal the piston rings. Change oil.
21. Lemforder and Meyle are good quality, OE spec on Mercs.
22. Hebridean island tour. Day 1 Nice sunset on Barra...
23. It killed my Optima battery but I had a good deal on a new 100 type battery. It just needs to see it through the next couple of weeks and then I can start taking things apart to find the root cause. Shame I can't hook up the trickle charger where the car is, maybe a solar panel would help? What the the actuators for?
24. I'm in the same boat, converted to OBD2 which helps, one day I'll get booked at stealth. Might be worth trying Star Performance in Kirkcaldy,, not tried them myself but have heard good things about them in the past.
