dr mat - yeah, all my driving is short journeys as I only live a couple of miles from work, could this be a factor? Robbo

Cheers guys, I'll give Gwent a call see if their prices include VAT. RobyD - I thought about the InPro group buy, but I've heard the FK ones are a better fit. Robbo

Can you knowledgeable chaps tell me what the possible causes for my popping exhaust could be? If I rev it at idle I get some quite loud popping on the overrun (only when the engine's warmed up). I've read a few threads which mention the Lamda probe, would this show up on VAG-COM ? as I've recently had it checked & no fault codes were found. I've also heard mention a possible bent valve! :pale: I've also noticed that the tailpipe gets quite sooty. A visual inspection of the exhaust would indicate that it's not in brilliant nick!, the middle box seems to be twisted out of alignment, could this be a possible cause? Should I be overly worried? Thanks, Robbo

Hi all, where's the best (ie cheapest) place to get FK M3 style rear lights from? I've phoned around a couple of places & am getting prices of £200+ I'm sure I read somewhere that they can be had for £140-£150 ish. Cheers, Robbo

Ideal Corrado Passenger Seat Companion.....?
Robbo149 replied to kvwloon's topic in General Car Chat
Good shout Dboy... I could drink Angelina's bathwater!!! Meg Ryan's always been a fave of mine too... well, I am 36! Robbo -
I might venture out if the weather's not too bad! As you say Steve, it's not too far for us. Are you still up for a trip to Harrogate for next month's CGTI meet? A week on Monday I think. Cheers, Robbo

Thought I'd better post in support of all the 30 something crusties! I'm 36 going on 18! was, am & always will be a boy racer. (Don't try & explain it to wives/girlfriends... it's a bloke thing). At least us fogies get cheaper insurance, I pay less than 500 notes for fully comp including protected NCD for my VR6. I think I'm onto my 14th motor now! (mainly VWs & Audis), although my first car was a T reg Fiesta 1100 Sport at 17. -
Just wanna echo what Kev said, I had new OE rear axle bushes & rear shocks fitted on my VR not long after I got it as the rear end felt a bit wooly!!! All I can say is what a transformation!.. well worth doing IMO. Rear end is tight as a nuns er.... rear now! Cheers, Robbo

Anyone got one of these or know if they're any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... egory=9889 Cheers, Robbo

This query has probably been answered somewhere else, but I can't find anything. I've just bought these off Ebay & want to know what will be the best tyre size for fitting my VR. They are 17 inch x 7 1/2 I think. I know the 225/45's that are on will be too big, but do I need 205/40's or would 215/40's be better on a 7 1/2 inch width ? Cheers all, Robbo

I got one from my local stealer, they had them in stock, about a fiver I think. No rear ones though, I had to paint mine, no big deal though. They look much smarter than the standard plazzy chrome ones (especially if they're all worn away like mine were). Cheers, Robbo

Cheers for the swift replies guys. PhatVR6 - come to think of it I didn't check it after the service, a local place I trust 100% did it, but I suppose we all make mistakes! I guess I'll have to keep a regular check on it from now on as dr mat says.

Coming home from work last night my oil warning light flashed on & off a couple of times so I thought "Hello, I'd better check the oil" (silly me hadn't checked the oil in the last 6 months since its last service). Anyway, left it to settle overnight & checked it this morning - wiped the dipstick & re inserted - dipstick was bone dry ! There are definitely no leaks & I've never noticed any smoke, even when starting up. I know I should check it more often but is this excessive / worrying consumption ? In the 6 months since its last service I've only done about 2500 miles & oil has gone. If it's gone off the bottom of the dipstick & the oil warning light has just started flashing, how much has it used? Am I looking at possibly valve stem oil seals, or worse?... Cheers, Robbo

Nice one Steve, I'll PM you nearer the time (1st Monday in April AFIK). My old mate Mick C keeps pestering me to come to the meets, probably so he can blow me away in his R32 - b@5t@rd!!! Cheers, Robbo

Must agree Paul, I've had a couple of Powerflow exhausts fitted on previous cars & they are excellent value. I've just had a quote for one for my VR6 @ £290 fitted for a cat back system with any tailpipe style. Cheers, Robbo

I'm from Dewsbury but get into Leeds a fair bit for the footy (boo-hoo!!!). Give us a shout if anyone wants to arrange a meet (Well Lane etc.). I used to be a regular at the Club GTI meets in Harrogate if anyone fancies a trip over. Cheers. "We are the YRA..."

Cheers for the reply Dazzy, presumably the Mk2 Golf type are the earlier ones (1.8 & G60) ? My 93 VR has the bucket type with centre armrest.
-
Hi all, I'm thinking of replacing the tappets on my 93 VR6 (100k) next time It gets a service, as they're getting a bit noisy. How much of a job is it ? & is it worth doing anything else at the same time ? Cheers guys.
-
Hi all, I've heard Corrado rear seats referred to as 'late' or 'early' type, & not interchangeable. What are the differences? & what models / years had which ? Cheers guys.

What VW's have you owned and how old are you??
Robbo149 replied to bigben's topic in General Car Chat
Here's my list of VW's (& Audis) - 90 G (BB) Mk2 8v GTI in met black - my first VW, kept for 3 1/2 yrs & heavily modifiied, featured in a few mags!. 91 H Oak Green 16v Mk2 (yes, one of those!) 92 J Mk3 VR6 in white (great engine, shiiiite car!!!) 95 M 1.6 Polo in Chagall Blue (heavily modified!) 96 N Audi A4 1.8 20v in Ming Blue (easiest driver I've ever had, superb car) 84 A Mk1 Golf GTI 'Campaign' in silver (why didn't I keep it?!!) 98 S Mk4 Golf 1.6 SE in Satin Silver (heavily modified!) 94 M Audi Coupe 2.6 V6 in Forest Green (2nd best car I've owned, after my C !) 93 L Corrado VR6 in Black (the bestest & gagging to be modified !!!) My other half currently drives a 98 S Polo 1.0 in Flash Red (bless!) I've also had a selection of other non VAG transport over the years, most noteable - 1978 S Fiesta 1300 Sport in Signal Yellow (my first car at 17, lots of DIY mods!) 93 L Honda Civic VTI in Silver (fast as funk, but not a VW!) 87 D Yamaha TZR 250 SP in Marlbro team colours (fast as funk & dangerous... yes I came off!) My grand total is 13 I think, but I am 36! (and still a boy racer!) Cheers, Robbo -
Oooooooh, what luck!... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... egory=9889 Thanks Blair, it's always useful to have detailled instructions from someone who's actually done the job.

Thanks for the swift responses guys, I too thought it might be a dash off job! Glad to hear it's not too bad. I'll have a bash at the weekend. Cheers.

Hi all, the heater on my '93 VR has started making a loud whistling noise (canary style!) it only does it on low speeds (1 & 2) & seems to clear up at higher speeds. Can't appreciate my choons with it on! is there a simple fix or do I need a new heater motor? If so, is it a buggery job to replace?! Cheers.
-
I had exactly the same noise on my previous motor (V6 Audi Coupe), it turned out to be a spring that wasn't seated properly, as you suspect. I ended up fitting a complete System 2 suspension kit & replacing the top mounts!... as you do!!! Cheers, Robbo

Sorry to hear about the list of faults Steve, at least with a C is going to be worth fixing! BTW, fitted my new cam position sensor today and (fingers crossed) seems to have cured my poorly VR. I've only been out for a couple of short runs but seems much smoother. Will get out for a longer blast see if there seems to be any noticeable hike in power. Cheers, Robbo
