i forgot pistons actually... few things i forgot!! i am a 12V whore really haha, but havent drove a 24V rado so maybe thats why... even so i think i want a mint 12V!! i dont actually need a rebuild, just want one, respray the engine bay, engine block etc and just have it mint :D what are these brand new engines like?? are they the same engines or slightly different?? seems a cheaper option if they are the same...
-
i have been putting together a list for my rebuild i have planned, but not only does it seem to get bigger and more expensive everyday, i have noticed how much more it is for parts from the stealers... have got prices from vw for a lot of parts, i really need advice on where to buy some of these from, for cheaper, but keeping the quality as i only want to do this once... my list is massive, i want to change as much as possible to new parts... i will list the prices from vw!! x2 timing chains £44.23 each x2 chain tensioners £28.13 each slide rail £4.06 slide rail £10.59 tensioner £42.13 four seasons tuning in the states does a kit for $80, is it the same?? all this included?? x7 head bolts £32.06 x10 head bolts £47.20 x3 head bolts £19.74 can i get a kit somewhere with all bots cheaper?? head gasket £32.06 rocker cover gasket £54.43 valve guides £236.40 front crankshaft seal £6.27 rear main oil seal £34.73 oil sump £70.09 sump gasket £32.33 sump plug £1.43 sump washer £0.48 coolant thermostat £20.31 seal for above £2.84 piston ring set (x6) £247.02 oil cooler £80.42 fuel filter £10.56 oil filter £12.37 x12 injector 'o' rings £36.98 water pump £79.40 ingnition lead set £110.64 x6 spark plugs £56.30 Lamda probe £110.91 cam position sensor £46.08 oil temp sensor £16.07 coolant temp sensor £29.79 ribbed belt £34.45 ribbed belt tensioner £84.24 x12 valve stem seals £42.92 x12 cam followers £231.36 x6 intake valves £137.22 x12 inner spring valves £47.47 x12 outer valve springs £74.38 x24 collets £20.15 x12 spring disc £47.47 x8 conrod bolts £124.80 x2 thrust bearings £19.32 x12 conrod bearings £65.41 flywheel £137.69 etc etc etc sorry for the long list, theres loads more, i just need help finding some of this cheaper for obvious reasons.... i want to rebuild as much as possible... my engine has 127,000 miles, i basically want a new standard VR engine in it, is there any parts i should no way be thinking of replacing??? there is loads more things like mounts and that but i wont list them as i have made this post mahoosive already... thanks for any advice!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg, cant believe the stories im hearing, im getting a new latch etc, whatever it takes.... my mates done this, was a sh*tty escort mind, but the damage it done was massive!! glad you ok!!
-
ah ok, i always thought it was a load of bollocks to be fair, looks like only the best oil and petrol is going in the rado from now on then :salute:
-
as the title says, when fitting my next set of coilovers, what should i also fit?? what bushes?? what mounts?? what else?? :confused4:
-
anyone own a vr using "expensive" fuel haha sounds like i might have to give it a go if my car ever makes it on to a road...
-
my screen has loads of burns over it, looks like somones been welding soemthing in the past and not covered it up proply?? when you put glass cleaner on it you can see loads of white spots, really annoying!! so think as its getting resprayed in a couple months, take it out and put a second hand one in (think they are near £400 new)... Obviously going to use someone who fits them daily as it must be difficult to get right??
-
just read your thread and am very impressed!! keep up the good work, great style!! wish my girlfriend had good taste like you
-
i would have the mk1 over the new one any day!!!
-
to get the markings off use a sharp knife to get them started - i then used 600 then 800 grit. you don't need to go any finer than that to get a good finish with the paint and lacquer. leaving after 800 grit means a much better surface for paint to adhere to... thanks!! looks like im going to be painting mine soon then :D
-
i had a k&n filter b4 the bmc ,i think i have the original in the loft to be honest i have not used the std air box for 7 years or so i have only tested the bmc up and down the road (no mot)(retest on friday) and its still a noce noise but not as loud and in your face like the k&n!! if you really want the std air box let me know i will have a look :) yeah go for it, if its in good condition i will take it!!
-
when sanding the lights down at the start, what course sand papers did you use?? been putting off doing mine for ages, got the paint and everything, just need the sand paper...
-
thats always the way, when things looking good - something happens...!! :( is it repairable??
-
do like the BMC's, what did you do with the old air box? im looking to put the original back in as i have a crappy k&n and it needs to go... i would be interested in giving you a few bob for it??
-
yea was pretty good, the ferrari on there was way too much, neva heard a road car sound like that!! and the space program after with old may was just as good, good tele :D
-
yea he was actually pretty funny, fair play to him for doing it!! great to see top gear again!! HOW FAST WAS THAT FOOKIN FERRARI!!! WOW!!!! would love a go in that...
-
cant wait for top gear  :D
-
sounds like you got it sorted mate!! :D good luck!!

sad to see you feel you need a change mate :( let me know if you sell anythin, im sure could take wheels or something of you... maybe even the engine set up... ring your insurance and tell them you are injured, go to the doctors/hospital so they have it on record... then you can put a claim in and get £1000 plus!! the insurance will offer you something stupid like £1000 for your car, dont take it, tell them to do some research and say how good condition yours was in... depending on if you have declared the mods, depends on how much you will get?! if you hevent declared any i think you will be lucky to get £2000, take 10% for your car back etc etc... is £1800 :( you will loose out if you dont buy it back either way!! they offered me £1300 for my VR with leather everything, i just laughed and said go have a look at the prices first before you offer me money... got £2500 in the end so i did well, told the insurance guy to look on piston heads and autotrader, then come talk to me... good luck mate!!
-
i know how you feel buddy!! someone wrote my car off in March!! i got 2500, but i brought the car back off them for 10%, suggest you do the same and try and save that engine, ya rims and seats for another rado... I have a claim going in for whiplash to, so get physio, time off work and try and make as much money as you can for your next project!! wish you all the best mate...
